VGC : Even if you’ve played God Of War on the PS4, it’s more than worth going back for another trip up the mountain.

I guess this guy doesn't know you can play it at 60fps 4k on PS5. 🙄

LordoftheCritics853d ago (Edited 853d ago )

Thats where the similarities end.

Eonjay852d ago

God of War released on hardware from 2013 and 2016.. and given the power of those machines the game looked balls to the wall amazing.. it isn't surprising now to see a smoother result on hardware from this decade.

Eonjay852d ago

Also lets give Sony credit for another high quality PC release.. Their port launches are getting better and better.. This even includes support for DLSS and FSR.. Many options for performance settings... Ultra wide support. Im encouraged by the fact that they are putting this level of effort into their PC ports and is certainly appreciated by PC gamers. You can see how Nixis is benefiting SIE already.

SeTTriP852d ago

Explain?...or you can't. Pretty sure a ps5 upgrade would negate any fidelity gaps (which is all the pc has).

Performance wise it plays exactly the same.

Did they upgrade the combat system or something for pc?

Sephiroushin852d ago

I really dont understand, its like some has never touched a high end pc... because when somebody says "X game feel so much better on PC" they always come with "But its 4k 60Fps on PS5 too" ... there is much more on PC than just resolution or 60 fps; and when it comes to graphic a reshade would negate the "looks the same on console" faster than an earthquake; there is dlss, superwide screen, nvidia reflex, etc, and games just feel better on pc even when both play at 60fps usually; but I use an Oled (like you cannot use one on PC haha) I am like no shit I also use an oled on PC (but only for certain games games, else i use a 1440p monitor) ...

You do know there a lot more than just that?

LordoftheCritics852d ago

PC gamers should stop explaining themselves I think.

People who play on it, know it.

Just enjoy the best life, thats it.

senorfartcushion852d ago

Pointless. Too many corporate fanboys out there

“Review: God of War feels so much better on PC | VGC“

Playing the PS5 version on a LG OLED feels fine to me. Whatever floats your boat I guess.

SeTTriP852d ago

I'm on a ps5/lg c1 and it does look better on pc but to say it feels/plays better on pc because of graphical options is disingenuous.

Just say it looks better.

Neonridr852d ago

now imagine playing on a PC, outputting to an LG OLED. ;)

FPS_D3TH852d ago

Exactly. My pc floats my boat so I’ll play it there without having to explain into the void why I enjoy and prefer that experience.

XBManiac852d ago

Can't you play over 60 fps on PC? Is the game limited on fps and resolution on PC? What about a mod or some hack? Not sure if there is this limitation on PC... Is it?

SeTTriP852d ago (Edited 852d ago )

Only thing you mention thats better is resolution and gow doesn't need anything over 60fps, its not a competitive shooter.

And at the time of this review their are no mods or hacks.

So at the time of release, base game that reviewers reviewed how does it feel or play better then the ps5 version?

SeTTriP852d ago

@ Eonjay still doesn't explain how it feels better on pc, dlss and all that stuff you mention is graphics setting/falls under that category.

Looks better absolutely but plays better thats where I need an explanation.

Did they add some gameplay loop that I'm not aware of, or tweaked the combat?

Fps feel better on pc hands for example and I can explain it, you on the other hand keep bring up graphics setting but can't explain how it "feels" better.

XBManiac850d ago (Edited 850d ago )

I answer myself:
There are mods that use Cheat Engine for setting FOV and other aspects. Here is how to do it:
Download KingKrouchy's Cheat Engine table
Activate the Disable line
Active the Camera FOV and backup pointers and pointer result boxes
Change the FOV value to the desired one
Select both pointerscan result lines and edit both values at the same time and change FOV there as well

n1kki6852d ago

Cool story. There are many more upgrades and just native 4k 60. Sony gamers always salty as fuck?

Perjoss852d ago

60fps is ok, but people with high refresh rate monitors are used to much better

Orchard853d ago

That's hardly surprising... it's true for most PC games, if the port is decent.

XbladeTeddy852d ago

Yeah, I'm just happy Sony took the time to optimise it, Halo runs awful on PC so still haven't bothered doing the campaign which is sad but happy I can jump into this without worries. Not played it since it released on PS4.

Orchard852d ago

Agreed - this looks very well optimized, heck the min spec includes a 900 series nvidia card - that’s a very old card nowadays.

Hofstaderman853d ago

Now wait another 4 years for Ragnorok. Maybe this will convince some of the PC crowd to purchase a PS5.

"Maybe this will convince some of the PC crowd to purchase a PS5."

No, I don't want a PS5, I don't feel that I am missing anything by not having one.

iplay1up2852d ago

PS5 has a fantastic 1st party lineup this year. Last year I would have agreed with you. I didn't want a PS5, half as bad last year as I do now. GOW and Horizon Forbidden West, are my top wanted games this year.

Shiore2u853d ago (Edited 853d ago )

Purchasing a piece of hardware you'll barely use after for one game? Hard pass. Games aren't few and far between on PC. We get more games in a day than you get in a year. Waiting for the definitive edition has never been a problem, just one more for the backlog.

LordoftheCritics853d ago (Edited 853d ago )

Console only people dont understand this.

I will play this on pc for like what 15 hours. It will be fun for sure but its not forcing me to buy a PS5 to play Ragnarok, I can comfortably wait.

I have 600 hours on Warframe alone. Thats just one game. I play it with nvidia fresstyle, 4k, sometimes 1440p 120fps etc and also on projector setups with all kinds of customization. Again thats just one game. I did all kinds of stuff for Death Stranding and Guild Wars 2 upscaling for projectors and what not. PC gaming makes sense when you're really in it.

All my consoles in every gen, just sits around 90% of the time. I wonder why i even buy the consoles every gen at launch. Covid actually helped me not get any of the new consoles and I dont feel like im missing anything important.

Father__Merrin853d ago

@lordofcritics

Then why do I mainly use my console EVERYTIME I turn pc on there's constant massive updates because I don't use it regularly i prefer console it's just easier and I enjoy it more.

LordoftheCritics853d ago (Edited 853d ago )

@Father__Merrin

LOL, thats your reason?

I guess you might need to educate yourself a little more. PC is kind of necessary in 2022 and moving forward.

You can try Mac. Maybe a little less updates. Not the monthly Windows updates that take a minute to install.

P_Bomb853d ago

“ I have 600 hours on Warframe alone”

So do I.

“I dont feel like im missing anything important.”

One could say the same thing about 600hrs of Warframe. *shrugs*

LordoftheCritics853d ago

@P_Bomb

''“ I have 600 hours on Warframe alone”''

''“I dont feel like im missing anything important.”

Theres something quite not right there.

Rowco147852d ago

And what PC gamer hasn't purchased a graphics card for one game .... invalid logic

Shiore2u852d ago (Edited 852d ago )

@Rowco147 I don't know one person that has ever bought a gpu for JUST one game and I've been at this for twenty years. The motivation of upgrading from one gpu to another exceeds just one singular use case, gpus aren't just meant for gaming and even then that hardware isn't as severely limited in software as a console in this situation is. You cannot compare the two.

P_Bomb852d ago

We’re in the minority, is all I’m saying. I’m fairly certain most ppl would trade our 600hrs of Warframe for 600hrs of the 2021/22 lineup.

Saaleh852d ago

I'm mainly PC Player. But i was PS HARDCORE for 20+ years. Yes i prefer playing on PC but Hype and Spoil free walkthrough takes priority over BEST Version. That's why i have a ps5, to play at the peak of the hype of these Exclusives [now some of them timed exclusives like horizon and god of war]. So PS5 is essential even if all their games are timed exclusives and some features like I/o SSD are more amazing/fresh than the stuff in pc. [unless we get bored of this new tech, which i doubt because it is very promising ]

Orchard853d ago

Yes, Sony dropped a ton of cash on PC porting studios so they can port games 4 years later.

It's almost like they aren't a business and don't want to make money... /s

I bet we'll see HFW and Ragnarok PC ports in 2022 or 2023 at the latest - and as a PS5 player, that is fine. The more people who experience the games the better, and the more money Sony gets to make more games.

Someone playing the game on PC doesn't somehow detract from my fun or enjoyment nor do I feel the need to justify my console purchase.

Extermin8or3_852d ago

They bought like 1 pc porting studio and have a partnership with one other. They have just ported god of war and are porting uncharted 4 for release later this year on pc, they have what 19 first party studios working on games for ps5. To port those titles to pc would take 19 studios so not every game will come to pc but you can bet theybplan for a fair few of them to- they are still working onnporting last gen games. Given the dev time required to port the titles there's every reason to believe it will take as long as 4 years becauae they have other games that already released that could do with being ported first.... it's clear that waiting 3/4 years doesn't seem to harm pc sales of the ported so why wouldn't they. They want to maximise sales of the game on console then have a second wind on pc.

Orchard852d ago (Edited 852d ago )

"they have what 19 first party studios working on games for ps5. To port those titles to pc would take 19 studios"

Except it won't... how many of those 19 studios are releasing games this year? A handful at the most. And the porting studio doesn't have to rewrite the entire game, the time consuming parts of the design/development are already done. You're talking about basically changing to support DirectX (which the engine may already support), adding support for some extra controllers, some Steam functionality, testing & optimization, etc. Sony exclusives typically don't include online multiplayer, so you shave a bunch of porting time off there too. Definitely not an entire multi-year AAA game dev cycle.

"here's every reason to believe it will take as long as 4 years"

4 years to port a game!? If they want to port these games they could do it in under a year easy, and could do it during the development of the PS4/5 release for a day 1 launch.

Also once the engine has been ported once to PC, the bulk of the work is done and future ports become easier. Sony engines such as Decima etc didn't have PC support for things like DirectX, Steam etc - they now do.

Realistically, Sony launching games on PC day 1 won't really impact PS5 hardware or software sales. I would still have bought my PS5 and would still have bought Sony games on it had the games been available on PC day 1. Sony know this too, it's clear where this is going.

MadLad852d ago

And when it does, it will still be the best version. Especially with mods, and just settings optimization.

Though Sony is going more and more into the PC market. That 4 year window is wishful thinking on your end.

iplay1up2852d ago

Please why would a PC gamer buy a sub par game? That's after releasing on PS5!

anubusgold852d ago

@Pocahontas Amazon prime just gave free copys of Jedi fallen order to pc player i rather play that.

Sephiroushin852d ago (Edited 852d ago )

How much you wanna bet this time it wont take more than 2 years as long as Jim Ryan is CEO?

Tedakin852d ago

PC ports will no doubt start coming sooner and sooner. PS games are selling well on PC and Jim Ryan loves money.

This is such a extreme claim lol. It's not that serious, it runs better sure. It runs better on ps5 and it's nice having it running at 60fps, but it sounds like they haven't played it since it first released and even then it wasn't even having any real issues lol.

derek852d ago

PC crowd always has to exaggerate the benefits of their tinkering to feel superior.

Eonjay852d ago

Its not really the PC crowd tho.. It just clickbait

ChubbyBlade852d ago

Yes. Benefits are “exaggerating” now.

anubusgold851d ago (Edited 851d ago )

@derek Well when you can turn on max texture detail turn AA down to low because you are on 1440P since its less usefully at that res, drop shadows down to mid, turn ray tracing to quality, increase view distance and field of view up past 90 degrees and still get near ultra quality visuals while still getting over 120 fps yes its better. You can decide how much detail or fps you want. Because in most games today you cant tell high from ultra settings and it will save you 40+ fs. Im not going to lose 40 fps because some game wants to put in some fancy fog effect that doesnt really look that good and it costs me 40 fps turn that crap down it doesnt make the game look any better its just showing off at that point. Ultra shadows and Fog does nothing to make me enjoy the game more HDR on my monitor is what makes the game look better and i dont have to take the fps hit.

God of War: How Atreus Could Become Just As Cool As Kratos

Might be in a minority here but I didn't enjoy any of the sections playing as Atreus or having companions at all. If I had my way it'd be Kratos on his lonesome from start to finish. Straightforward action gameplay without the endless boring chatter.
