Now that my friend let me borrow his PS5, and I let her borrow my Series X, absolutely not. Reternal is die and repeat. Over and over. Pretty partial effects dosen't make a great game. We are roommates.
I can spend as much time with Unreal Engine 5. Matrix Awakens, and have more fun.
Returnal might not be for you, but, it absolutely is a fantastic game. Definitely my GOTY. But yeah not sure you actually played it now that you refer your friend his then her. 🤔

You're entitled to your opinion but the game rocked! The story & 100% gameplay is my reason why I enjoyed Returnal like I've enjoyed most of their games in the past. Returnal is my GOTY.

Returnal is much a product of its budget. There's a few games that does exactly what it does, even better, just not as flashy.
It's definitely a great game, but I don't find it nearly as special as others seem to.

This is all opinion. I'm not actually trying to knock Returnal. I just think it gets propped up by its higher budget than most games in the genre.
I, personally, have a better time with games like Enter/Exit the Gungeon, Immortal Redneck, and especially Risk of Rain 2. All of which have a similar design philosophy behind their gameplay and mechanics.

You're making extremely light of my point.
All the games I brought up hold up to, or can be even more fun than, Returnal.
Returnal didn't do anything insane in terms of game design.
It just had more money to be thrown at the tech, and into marketing.
Also, bargain bin means throwaway. There's nothing throwaway about the games I listed.
I've said it before; if Returnal wasn't a console exclusive (it's likely coming to PC) it wouldn't have had near the amount of eyes it had on it.
Nex Machina - a game by the same studio - is just as solid and fun to play. Is fairly similar in design, yet people don't talk about it. If it had prettier graphics though..

Unlike half the people on here who claim to, I happen to actually own a PS5.
I didn't purchase Returnal. I played it at a friend's house and decided it's not worth $70 of my hard earned money.
Funnily enough my friend agreed, having actually purchased it.
The games I listed were highly regarded by the community as well. Difference being I didn't see more people salivating over audio techniques and the fact the controller did cool things while playing it, but the fact that the gameplay was solid.
You guys keep harping on the games I mentioned as bargain bin, but Returnal couldn't even clear a million in sales, from what I remember. Despite the extra coverage it got. Something that can't be said for the games I brought up.

Super Star Dust, Nex Machina, Resogun, etc says hello. Returnal took what they've made in the past and brought it into a 3D realm seamlessly. How many companies have failed at accomplishing that? Steam....🤣
Oh Ted, last I checked Porsche didn't outsell Civics either but which one is the more quality purchase? HM made their money back with profit so where is there a lack of success at? It's sad when people speak on companies that FAR exceed their exploits in life. It's okay, continue being awesome because you advocate for cheaper options of play while not willing to afford better. It seems like, as of late, everything is judged by price alone. Sorry you have to live that way.

Really felt the need to make it a personal life situation because I mentioned a big budget game didn't outsell smaller budget titles.
I'm happy with my life, dude. Been union almost my entire working career. I'm 30, straight up owned my own house outright by 25.
Am now part of said union, helping a whole lot of Americans get actual fair representation in the workforce. Something that can't be said within the games industry itself, sadly.
I'm doing better financially than 85% of the American workforce, and my job, literally, is to try and help raise up your average worker and make a better life for them.
So since you took the low road, I'll take the high.
I hope you're doing well in life. If not, I hope the things I fight for on the daily help make it so; either for you or those you care about.

Returnal and Metroid Dread are on the list...but it is missing SMTV. 2 out of 3 from my top 3 made the list.
I wonder if SMTV being super long(87 hrs for me) or SMT3 remaster being kinda annoying and super hard put people off from playing it?
