Exclusive: LucasArts still working on Indiana Jones for PS3

Slipping into the shadows of such titles as Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Fracture, many people have forgotten about one of LucasArts' biggest projects, Indiana Jones.

With no word on the title's development since 2006, gamers have forgotten about the game or figured it was indefinitely shelved. However, speaking with PSU.com, LucasArts confirms the title is still in the works with new details soon on the way.

"LucasArts remains absolutely committed to the Indiana Jones franchise," said the LucasArts representative. "While we are aware that fans have been eagerly awaiting additional information on the upcoming game, they can rest assured that details are forthcoming."

For those of you not up to date on the new Indiana Jones title, the game will be utilizing much of the same technology found in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. This includes Natural Motion's Euphoria Engine, Pixelux's DMM technology and Havok physics. As of right now, there has been no concrete release date given, but we suspect it'll show up in 2009

BigKev455623d ago

Man, I forgot all about this one.

kwicksandz5622d ago

after flops like fracture and the force unleashed, i wouldnt bet on this one turning out any good.

Wenis5622d ago

The reviewers were just a bunch of whiny 40 year old nerds who were upset that this game didn't feel as nostalgic as they thought it would, in terms of the original 3 movies. And how was fracture a flop? I always thought a game had to be hyped to 'flop', didn't know there were actually people who were interested in that game.

hay5622d ago (Edited 5622d ago )

@kwicksandz: Force Unleashed actually sold more than 1m as far as I know, and it wasn't flop.

Links:
http://pcgames.gwn.com/news...
http://www.shacknews.com/on...

As you can see it here, it sold about 1m only for xbox360 and PS3 and those are sale figures for September and only in US.

It's funny how people call flops games that they don't like so please, shove your "flop" deep in your a** and think or at least do a 5 second research before posting such nonsense.

Back on topic: Another game with Euphoria, I think I'm gonna take a closer look at this game since the engine is awesome, but wasn't at it's best in Force Unleashed. Buggies!

johnyv19815623d ago

is this exclusive to the ps3? if not then i don't care

LarVanian5623d ago

Love Indianna Jones!
Hated the new one though. It lacked the old Indy charm and had too much CGI.
Hope the game turns out good.

INehalemEXI5622d ago (Edited 5622d ago )

That CGI looked amazing on blu ray especially the ending. I agree though it did lack what earlier ones had. I think it was missing a couple pinches of grand adventure and legendary treasures.

It was the first blu ray movie I ever watched so....I was amazed at the quality of picture.

games4fun5622d ago

lucas arts is probably feeling a bit outgunned with the way uncharted turned out.

Jamegohanssj55623d ago

Exclusive? You have my attention.

Indiana Jones game name revealed? (And it’s… not great)

Bethesda’s new Indiana Jones game may have had its title revealed early ahead of the Xbox Developer Direct, and it’s surprisingly underwhelming.

Yeah but it's Indiana Jones, they've always had titles which sound so...adventurous. The name which makes you sound like you're going on a quest yourself.

This just sounds generic

Even if it was called "Indiana Jones and the Great ANCIENT Circle" sounds at least a tiny bit better.

1Victor112d ago (Edited 112d ago )

Could be worse could be
Indiana Jones and lost pills 🤷🏿

Post your worse names bellow

its not really that funny...

its a name with zero context. it could have an explanation, or its a temporary name. of course its the internet so we must overreact.

FPSRUSSIA113d ago

the name doesn't matter as much as the game play will it be a third person like uncharted or tomb raider ill have to wait and see.

crazyCoconuts113d ago

I'm guessing Wolfenstein would be the template in terms of mechanics and such, given the developers, but that's a guess.

Rockstar112d ago

I hope you're wrong but I guess we'll see...

LoLCryBabyGamers112d ago

If i was a betting man this game will be hot trash.

Concertoine112d ago (Edited 112d ago )

Why? Machine Games have a good rep. Last Wolfenstein sucked but pretty sure that was Arkane.

I predict the game will be decent but unsuccessful - Indiana Jones’ last movie flopped and the gaming demographic doesn’t seem very interested in it either going by sales of other Indy games

EvertonFC112d ago

I'll be happy with either 1st person or 3rd but I'm leaning twds 1st person

^not the game title but the article

GamerRN112d ago (Edited 112d ago )

It's an Xbox game, they will do anything to downplay the game and create negativity surrounding it. Attack the title, the graphics, the developer, and just vl chip away at it so people look down on it. It's been the way Sony has been doing things for the last few years. And the fanboys help by perpetuating it.

kenpachi113d ago

They left a word out starts with a "J" ends with "K" and has two other letters in-between.

I want Bethesda to use the best Indiana Jones movie as a blueprint

With Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny hitting theatres soon, I need Bethesda to use the best Indy movie as a foundation for its Xbox Indiana Jones game.

I hope they do their own thing and don’t try and base it on the movie too much with a Ford look alike

Sonic1881313d ago (Edited 313d ago )

Ain't this game supposed to be in first person? I remember hearing about that. I think it should be in third person

4Sh0w313d ago

Uhm not that Uncharted franchise is bad or anything, it's actually one my favorite on ps but I kinda want IJ game to be as different from Uncharted as possible because #1I love fresh new ideas & creativity #2 I don't want to hear for 3,4 yrs "it's just a Uncharted copy cat", I already know just by game type it may have alot of similarities...or am I just overthinking this one?

Sonic1881313d ago

I'm not hearing people say Tomb raider being a copycat or vice versa Uncharted being a copycat 🤔 I enjoyed Uncharted and Tomb raider and felt like they were different in their own way

4Sh0w313d ago

Yeah, that makes sense.

jznrpg313d ago (Edited 313d ago )

Story isn’t hard there is a lot to go off of. Combat and traversal is where I’m not confident . Bethesda as a whole has had poor combat.

Indiana Jones mainly uses a whip and a pistol so it will be interesting to see how they make the AI work with that, skills etc.

I’m old so this IP and grew up with the first movies and they have a lot of potential .

I wish it was in a better studios hands really but maybe they deliver but I won’t be sold (or not) until it’s actually shown.

DOMination-313d ago

Good job Bethesda Game Studios aren't making the game then.

MachineGames are developing it as far as I know. And their combat systems have broadly acknowledged as being rather good?

Seems like a weird thing to worry about. For me, MachineGames are known for making fast paced action shooters. Even then, Wolfenstein had a half decent campaign, even if it wasn't particularly deep. Lets see if their writing can keep up with their gameplay.

Bathyj313d ago

Well there's where I'm worried. Indiana Jones should not be a shooter. He does very little shooting. I don't know what the gameplay loop is going to be other than exploring and puzzles. Maybe more melee. I don't want it to be just at uncharted clone either.

GhostScholar313d ago (Edited 313d ago )

I agree that combat has been Bethesda’s weak point, but the gunplay has improved drastically from the first gameplay reveal to the last xbox showcase. I am pretty sure id or another studio may have came in and helped out with it. That was my biggest takeaway from the showcase. Gun play looks the best it ever has for a Bethesda game.

anast313d ago

That would be Temple of Doom, but it doesn't matter because Bethesda games haven't been solid in more than 30 years.

GhostScholar313d ago

I get that you don’t even believe that yourself, but come on man. Oblivion, Skyrim, fallout, riiigghhht those games were horrible

--Onilink--313d ago

Not to mention that its not even Bethesda making the game, its MachineGames, who made the recent Wolfenstein games which were great.
By his logic, even Dishonored, Prey, Doom, Hi Fi Rush, etc havent been solid either.

Probably not even worth replying to him…

anast313d ago (Edited 313d ago )

Morrowind was the last game they made that could be considered a solid game. Last time I checked HiFi Rush had the "same" player count as Gollum

Sonic1881518d ago

Still in the early stages. We won't get a reveal until two more years probably 😂

rlow1518d ago

I wish they would make another Riddick, Butchers Bay was the best.

hotnickles518d ago

You know what games I want way more than Indiana Jones? The darkness and Riddick.

Snookies12518d ago (Edited 518d ago )

Haha, completely agree... But, the fact that he is involved in this is a definitely a positive sign! Could actually be a good game!

hotnickles517d ago

You might be right. Indiana Jones will never do Jackie or Riddick stuff though. The darkness was brutal on the eyes and ears lol.

Leeroyw518d ago

The Darkness was an underrated gem. Fantastic lore and Mike patton from Faith No More voicing the darkness is up there with the great video game voice overs imo.
