Call of Duty: Vanguard’s underwhelming reveal puts Battlefield 2042 into pole position

From The Loadout: Another year, another Call of Duty game. Call of Duty: Vanguard has finally been revealed, and 24 hours on from the announcement, it feels like the game has already come and gone. Set on the tried and tested battlegrounds of World War 2, the reveal trailer for the game was underwhelming at best, focusing on the dramatic CGI cutscenes, explosions, and firefights that have become synonymous with the franchise.

Battlefield 2042 was already in pole position.

Jin_Sakai1006d ago

We hear the same thing every time yet CoD always dominates the charts.

LucasRuinedChildhood1006d ago (Edited 1006d ago )

BF1 was very competitive with Infinite Warfare's sales, to be fair.

Activision are also projecting lower sales for Vanguard than for Cold War: https://mp1st.com/news/acti...

I think Vanguard will sell more but "dominate" is a strong word. BF1 2042 is going to sell much better than BF5, and people aren't currently that interested in the WW2 setting although Warzone will help push sales. I do think Modern Warfare 2 (2022) will dominate though.

BehindTheRows1005d ago (Edited 1005d ago )

Yep.

And yes, Vanguard will dominate the next Battlefield, as is usually the case.

Profchaos1006d ago

Im more excited for cod but I like WW2 shooters so everyone's different. But I do know that every year since 2008 we've been promised a cod killer from EA or that battlefield would finally crawl out of the darkness to gain the top spot and it's been 14 years cod still tops the charts

Smok911006d ago (Edited 1006d ago )

If you like WW2 shooters you must’ve hated the last WW2 cod game. It’s so funny seeing the guns and characters after a few months thinking it’s supposed to be a WW2 setting. Involves the imagination at that point lol

Profchaos1005d ago

Yeah I loved it at first but after a few months the game was full of fluro purple riffles and other junk.

But they did have possibly my favourite mp mode to-date war mode where you had to continue pushing the enemy back through choke points or defend choke points by various means like one team rebuilds a bridge under smoke bombs another guns down on them

If this is actually true, then fuck you Activision.

Smok911006d ago

Common sense tells me the game will be roughly the same size as Cold War, likely a little larger.

NoFanBoy1006d ago

Yeah if it's 270GB then forgetaboutit.

senorfartcushion1006d ago

Nope.

The CoD vs Battlefield thing is marketing and only idiots partake in rivalries like this.

Talking to you, console fanboys.

Smok911006d ago (Edited 1006d ago )

Perception is reality. Plus I don’t think it’s crazy to have a favorite and pull for it like a sports team. Sometimes it seems the people who take it the most serious are those who came to cry about it. Just have some fun.

Plus, it’s not just marketing. They are competitors in the same market. Capitalism 101. It’s not too different than people arguing over different car brands because they develop favorites based on their preferences. Why is this so hard to understand? Lol

Applejack1005d ago

It’s because video games still have the “it’s for children” stigma attached to it. It really is no different than, like you said, sports team, phone companies or anything else comparable to one another. Now that being said, I don’t do it myself because I’m my opinion, too many people take it to a level it should never go lol.

senorfartcushion1005d ago

It’s very crazy to pick a side. Just because you’re partaking in an economic system ala capitalism, it doesn’t mean that you’re doing the right thing in life. It’s a system created to do certain things, this also means negative things.

MassEffectFan1006d ago

Call of duty will dominate in sales again thats for sure!
I much prefer battlefield now I'm older though.

Does anyone care at this point? Fingers crossed the next bf is golden, don’t think the franchise could take another epic misfire. Good on them for continuing support for 2143, just too little too late

Another? ANOTHER?

Is he honestly trying to make out like the last Battlefield was a huge success, not just as a game but as a live service game? I'm sure these guys live in their own echo chambers, they are so far removed from reality or they just like talking out of their arse trying to rewrite history.

Also why say such a tone deaf statement when you know the state of live service games at the minute and how many gamers feel about them. Bigging up the next BF game as live service does not give me any excitement or hype.

''is building ‘another tremendous LIE service’''

This is nothing too new
https://www.eurogamer.net/e...

They had plans of a universe of live service games

Also these studios made 2042 there is no new massive team its the same team
https://www.eurogamer.net/t...

Well same team minus the seattle boys that were canned
https://gamerant.com/ea-bat...

This is all again same news different year but it seems very few remember what happened before covid.

Walalon13d ago

At least they put car freshner trees up their asses to think smelling their own farts smells good at this point to be so out of touch.

RaidenBlack15d ago

Just make another Battlefield 2 ... or BadCompany 3 ... EA

XiNatsuDragnel15d ago

An Update on Battlefield 2042 and Welcoming Motive Studio to the Team

EA:

While we’ve enjoyed and are proud of creating these seasons of additional content for Battlefield 2042, it is now necessary for us to turn from the present to the future. What this ultimately means is that Season 7 will serve as the final season for Battlefield 2042. After Season 7 concludes, we will continue to support the game with new in-game challenges, events, modes, and of course, ongoing maintenance, but we are moving away from delivering official seasons.
