Call of Duty: Vanguard’s underwhelming reveal puts Battlefield 2042 into pole position

From The Loadout: Another year, another Call of Duty game. Call of Duty: Vanguard has finally been revealed, and 24 hours on from the announcement, it feels like the game has already come and gone. Set on the tried and tested battlegrounds of World War 2, the reveal trailer for the game was underwhelming at best, focusing on the dramatic CGI cutscenes, explosions, and firefights that have become synonymous with the franchise.

I think Vanguard will sell more but "dominate" is a strong word. BF1 2042 is going to sell much better than BF5, and people aren't currently that interested in the WW2 setting although Warzone will help push sales. I do think Modern Warfare 2 (2022) will dominate though.

Im more excited for cod but I like WW2 shooters so everyone's different. But I do know that every year since 2008 we've been promised a cod killer from EA or that battlefield would finally crawl out of the darkness to gain the top spot and it's been 14 years cod still tops the charts

If you like WW2 shooters you must’ve hated the last WW2 cod game. It’s so funny seeing the guns and characters after a few months thinking it’s supposed to be a WW2 setting. Involves the imagination at that point lol

Yeah I loved it at first but after a few months the game was full of fluro purple riffles and other junk.

But they did have possibly my favourite mp mode to-date war mode where you had to continue pushing the enemy back through choke points or defend choke points by various means like one team rebuilds a bridge under smoke bombs another guns down on them

Perception is reality. Plus I don’t think it’s crazy to have a favorite and pull for it like a sports team. Sometimes it seems the people who take it the most serious are those who came to cry about it. Just have some fun.

Plus, it’s not just marketing. They are competitors in the same market. Capitalism 101. It’s not too different than people arguing over different car brands because they develop favorites based on their preferences. Why is this so hard to understand? Lol

It’s because video games still have the “it’s for children” stigma attached to it. It really is no different than, like you said, sports team, phone companies or anything else comparable to one another. - ww2 theme
- no gameplay in the trailer
- release date way to far, it should had been in September
- the game look no ready and rush since we didn’t see gameplay

-how does it not look ready if you havent seen it? why would it be ready months before its released?
-rumored file size likely includes the campaign, warzone(2 maps), MP, and zombies. All of these modes can likely be installed and uninstalled separately.

Plus they release the game way to late because they are not ready.

call of duty is always released in the last week of october or the first week in november. historically speaking, the teaser trailer is released around August/September. Full trailer with gameplay usually coming a little bit later. it seems to me that if you look at call of duty as a franchise, they're doing literally everything they usually do on their schedule. ITS ALMOST AS IF THEY KNOW HOW TO SELL MILLIONS OF COPIES CONSISTENTLY.

I'll tell you what, when i saw battlefield's trailer i was hyped, after seeing the real gameplay from the playtests i am very much un-hyped; it looks like a mess. Now battlefield has to re-convince me to buy. Lets not forget that BF4 was essentially an unplayable mess for around 4 months. BFV was not a fun game. BF1 was decent, but a step backward from BF4. BF Hardline was "meh". I consider myself a BF fanboy, but the series has been kind of whack for years.

I was almost tempted. (To get vanguard) After buying mw2019 & Skipping cold war.

2 reasons.

1. It's still a toss up, wether it's running the new engine, debuted in MW, prehaps just parts of it that have been bolted on or none of it at all! (Both physics and graphics were overhauled to great effect ). Cold war ran the old engine, and thus, felt like turd/ a 15 year old game.

2 . 270gb on Xbox as you mention. (I've got PS5 so might be 230gb on that but still. This is unacceptable! ) If you ever have to re install/ re download updates for the whole game, this could literally ruin your whole evening if your planning jump on a match, it could be a 2 hour wait..! This happens rarely, in the scheme of things, but it could be once a month occurrence.

To add for bonus points:) I got, & always get...the disc versions.... it was a real pain to get this running on PS5. People who paid the ridiculous ps store prices had no problems if they owned it digital. which I refuse to do 98% of the time. Disk players were left with constant update horror and reinstall loops. (Google it!)

Me Think it's time to give battlefield a go this year.

Can always sell it on eBay if it's pony.
If you sell within first 3 months.. you literally only lose a few pence.

both games have me interested, but BF has me very nervous after their trailer and gametest look nothing like each other. BF4 taught me to wait after launch before making up my mind on buying it, as BF4 was a wreck online with lag quakes for the first 4 months of release, though it eventually became the best BF since BF 2.
