Sea of Thieves - A Pirate's Life resulted in Sea of Thieves' most successful month ever

4.8 million players in one month is spectacular for a game that 3 1/2 years ago. Sea of Thieves is a huge success for Microsoft.

That's for one month. While nice it isn't exactly news that a game sees an uptick in player count during the month of newly released content.

Success is determined by revenue not by player count. But whether or not it's a success wasn't the point of my comment.

I don't know if it was a success or not but number of players doesn't make a game a success.

All of sea of thieves and all of its dlc is multiplayer and can be played solo. That’s the whole point of the game. This dlc is no different. Nothing has changed.

Literally said the content is SP. Not the game. You're not winning the argument you think you are. If there was an MP add-on for Spider-Man, that wouldn't make the core game any less SP.

its single and multiplayer, just instanced based is the only difference. Its an already fantastic game, with now another amazing free expansion. Rare knocking it out of the park.

It is one of the more unique offerings. And, instanced based is a huge difference IMHO. Huge.

@christopher its nice being able to do some tall tales like pirates life without being attacked, but at the same time i like having a mix of quests where you are out in the wild like a pirate and anything can happen. I think they can find a healthy mix of both.

Only 2 of the 17 Tall Tales in the game are instanced. 3 of the 5 Pirate's Life Tall Tales are not instanced and must be played with other players in the world.

Yes, but it's complicated. Since most of these responses haven't been helpful, I'll try to break the instanced stuff down more thoroughly:

Chapters 1 & 3 are the standard RPG instances you're exactly thinking about: start in the SOT standard world and then go through an unlocked portal.
Chapter 2, 4, & 5 are still managed WITHIN the main world, but the special places you go to are set away from the other islands. Your ship COULD be attacked, but it's hard to argue why. Pirate's Life story-goers probably didn't stock up on any loot before venturing out.

I'm not sure if you've checked out any of the reviews on it, so wanted to clarify this point further. ;)

Very relaxing game to play by yourself or with a friend. The sights and sounds are a nice break from FPS games
