Switch Takes Japan's Entire Top 30 Software Chart, First Since 1988

If you keep up to date with our regular Japanese chart updates, you'll have spotted that Nintendo Switch games made up the entire top ten last week. That's actually a pretty common occurrence these days, but it turns out that last week's performance was even better than we could have imagined.

A combination of having a system readily available and software that's compelling to Japan will so that. Congrats Nintendo.

i dont understand why Japan buys so fanatically Switch ....after the 3-4 good games it has , it literally collects dust nothing else to paly on it

the weird thing is that these 3-4 games (mario ,Zelda ,Animal Cross) are bought by millions....without being that much of masterpieces or even have so much content) ...and this ends up an avalanch effect where Japanese devs dont see other consoles interesting to develop (namely Sony)

P S Sony s big mistake was that lost control of Naughty Dog ...they let them create whatever theywant and went from ultra successfull platfomer maker and Japan Juggernaught (with Crash and Jak 1) to violent shoot em up and slaughter anyone with Lat of Us and Uncharted which pushed away japan and SOny lost of the best developers for their inland market ....tragic mistake

I mean if the top 30 games are on the Switch it sounds like Japan has plenty to play on it. Not every game has to be a masterpiece either to be enjoyable and sell millions.

you lost me at 3-4 good games. Why not just say you are a Sony fan and Sony only and call it a day instead?

Loadedklip1006d ago

I never seen someone get zero likes and all down votes before. Congrats???

ScootaKuH1006d ago

I don't agree with you but I gave you an update because I feel sorry for you

gold_drake1006d ago (Edited 1006d ago )

because alot of japanese people are always on the go.
school, work, travel etc. they're always busy as hell.
if id be always away from home, u better believe the switch will accompany me everytime and id buy games for it.

This is impressive, but there is a downside for Nintendo. When the Wii was selling this impressively, so was the Nintendo DS. With the Switch, Nintendo had to combine two of their platforms into one.

Edit: I want to emphasis how great this is for Nintendo. They are changing the landscape with this hybrid much like they did with the Wii. Very few companies can pull this off. Look forward to the Steam Deck.

Concertoine1006d ago

Less money on hardware means customers have more for software. Also they can focus all their dev teams on one platform.

NotoriousWhiz1006d ago (Edited 1006d ago )

While the Wii has very strong hardware sales, I don't think it did nearly as well with software. The Switch is killing it on both fronts.

Edit: after some research, the Wii did pretty good in software as well, although the numbers are a tad inflated because they include Wii Sports at 80 million sold which was a free pack in title since launch.

DefaultComment1006d ago

But the same thing could be said from the PSP Vita and the ps4 mate.

roadkillers1006d ago

Maybe... but the Vita was not a success.

Yeah..........we never getting a powerful Switch at this point. It's a wrap.

NotoriousWhiz1006d ago

Switch 2 should be coming within the next 4 years. And by then we'll probably also have the Ps5 pro / Xbox series elite

Outlawzz1006d ago

That's great for Nintendo. I've admittedly been less interested in the switch since the steamdeck was announced.

Big third party announcements don't really matter anymore since they'll play better on the steamdeck.
