Time Magazine Top Ten Games of 2008

Time had released there top 10 of the year. It is a pretty good list with a few surprises.

Completely agreed. Grand Theft Auto 4 sucked, Force Unleashed sucks, and Gears 2 sucks (im a 360 and wii owner, trust me Gears 2 sucks).

GTAIV, sure I can take that, it would be on my top3 anyways, but Braid on second place? It's a great game, it truly is. But not close to beat so many other games, it's a shame that MGS4 is not even on that list, but I guess thats what someone think : (

mgs4 should be on there somewhere, but whatever. The best games arent the ones that the obsessive people like best, for most average people all those games were awesome.

Since when does Gears suck? Its one of the best campaigns ever in action games. Yeah, multiplayer is crap but I got Resistance 2 for that.

shamv - You run up, see some guys, take cover and keep picking them off one by one. If you run out there you die. If you leave cover, you die. How is that fun for you? I mean yay, you get to ride some of the locust stuff. Its boring, you barely control them and its very linear. Oh you get to pick a path at one point or another, way to mix it up. Ive played more interested flash games on the web.

Since you agree the online is crap i wont even get into it, as i dont see how it even passed Microsoft Certification.

can't you take any game and make it sound boring like you did? Take for instance...MGS IV...shoot guy in head, hump floor then disappear, get up and run to building...watch 3 minutes cut scene..run to next building. Mario Kart..drive around throw turtle shells turn left, turn right. Halo 3..run, shoot, change weapon..throw grenade. Hide behind rock until energy comes back up...run out, shoot some more. Resistance 2...run, shoot, leave teammates behind...run, shoot, wait for eyes to glow. run shoot...cutscene were you get injected.

See what I did there...you can strip any game of its character and make it sound like it sucks. But in doing so...you have to give credit to Epic and Microsoft for not only selling millions of Gears of Suck 1, but Gears of Suck 2. Anyhow...I have not finished more than 10 minutes of Metal Gear just yet....I started Gears 2 but found a rental copy of Resistance 2 and rented it so that I could beat it...and have not went back to Gears just yet...mainly because I picked up the latest COD to see if it is any good. Here is a thought...perhaps people just like a variation of shooters and are not drenched in story lines and plots...they just want to play video games.

I'm still very lukewarm to GTA IV. Nothing about this game has screamed "GOTY" at me. Yea, it's got a big city. But so did Oblivion and Fallout 3.

The gunplay is awkward, and driving is uncomfortable. I just think that there were many other games that offered better experiences. Yea the graphics were pretty good for a sandbox game, but I can honestly say that at this moment, I can go back and play GTA II and have more fun.

Whenever I play GTA IV, it's easy to see how much work went into making the massive city as realistic as it is. The game may not have the best shooting or driving, but I think the story is top-knotch. I have always liked the art style of the game as well.

As far as quality goes, I think GTA IV is definitely GOTY. Personally, I can't decide until I actually get LBP and Fallout 3 over winter break.

MGS4 is one of the best in 2008 if not the best. But I love Force Unleashed. Isn't perfect, isn't breathtaking but it's incredibly fun with a good story(and massive bugs). But yeah, shouldn't be on that list.

GTA4 was a good game, but it does not deserve to be on that list. It was perhaps the most overrated game I've ever played; even more so than Halo 3.

I understand everyone's personal preferences and anger towards this argument, but does anyone actually think that Time magazine, one of the most respectable magazines in the country, would just bullshit anything? I'm sorry if you don't agree with their choices, but I can guarantee that they didn't pull the list out of their asses.

I also disagree with a few of the choices (not sure if an iPhone game should be there), but I do agree that games like GTA IV, Gears2, and LittleBigPlanet should be there.
