@logicwins $10 more and you won’t buy at all now. Tell us more how you never were buying this anyways

LOGICWINS1064d ago

You're right. I was never planning on buying this, because only a dumbass publisher would charge $70 for a multiplayer-only game when this genre is aggressively shifting towards a free-to-play model (Warzone, Fortnite, Rogue Company, Halo:Infinite etc.).

Complete and utter stupidity.

ActualWhiteMan1064d ago

$70 with free DLC… vs $60 with map packs. Hmm, what is the retarded consumer going to think cost more? 🤔

kayoss1064d ago (Edited 1064d ago )

@logicwins
But most of free to play games you mentioned makes more money off of microtransactions. Yes, battlefield most likely will have MT too, but MT dont dictate your progress whereas most of these free to play requires you to buy MT to progress.

Christopher1063d ago

***when this genre is aggressively shifting towards a free-to-play model ***

Towards a F2P model with games that rarely perform as well or offer as much.

I do agree with the idea that $70 for just an MP game, is bad form, though. But, comparing it to the F2P market isn't the best thing to do, IMHO.

DJStotty1063d ago

@D3TH

It is the principle, not the increase, if we accept 70 games now, it becomes the standard across the board. Then in a few years, they will try 80, if that gets accepted, it becomes the standard.

There is a reason why games have been around the same price since the SNES/Mega Drive era.

darren_poolies1063d ago

$10 in the US but it's £20 in the UK which is a big difference.

medman1064d ago (Edited 1064d ago )

I know this....if a developer is going to try to charge 70 dollars for the ps5/series x version, that version should be designed for those consoles, and not simply a last gen version with better visuals and framerate options. If it's not fundamentally a better experience, are you seriously attempting to charge for the extra capability inherent to the new consoles while not really taking advantage of it in any unique way?

Shane Kim1063d ago

What do you and other gamers expect from a new generation of consoles besides better graphics?

StoneyYoshi1063d ago

Don't forget we will get DOUBLE the player count and access to the entire size of each map on the new consoles compared to the previous gen (previous gen gets 64 players with smaller versions of the maps. Seems pretty unique in that aspect IMO and that is the important part to me.

medman1063d ago (Edited 1063d ago )

@shane kim
What I expect is that in 2021 and 2022, we not be getting games developed for a ps4 that has a tablet cpu from 2012 in it. What we are getting would be akin to a 2009/2010 ps3 blockbuster, like Metal Gear Solid 4 (2008) being developed to run on the ps2 with it's circa 2000 hardware. Is that a good visual for you? Imagine the sacrifices of Metal Gear Solid 4 having to run on the ps2, and what would have to be cut back, then multiply that exponentially for the tech of 2021 and realize the sacrifices made will be significant and substantial.

I'll leave Mark Cerny's own words here so perhaps you'll truly understand....
“The primary reason for an ultra-fast SSD is that it gives the game designer freedom. Or to put that differently, with a hard drive, the 20 seconds it takes to load a gigabyte can sabotage the game the developer is trying to create,” Cerny said. “Say we’re making an adventure game, and we have two rich environments where we each want enough textures and models to fill memory, which you can do as long as you have a long staircase or elevator ride or a windy corridor where you can ditch the old assets and then take 30 seconds or so to load the new assets.”

Cerny says most modern game developers more realistically “chop the world into a number of smaller pieces” to avoid those extra-long elevator rides. But the end result is that you have levels designed with twisty passages and long, repetitive environments that are there solely to account for load times and to avoid kicking the player to a black screen. Cerny cites Haven City in the classic adventure game Jak 2.

“The game is 20 years old, but not much has changed since then. All those twisty passages are there for a reason. There’s a whole subset of level design dedicated to this world, but still, it’s a giant distraction for a team that just wants to make their game,” Cerny explained. “What if the SSD is so fast that, as the player is turning around, it’s possible to load textures for everything behind the player in that split second? If you figure that it takes half a second to turn, that’s four gigabytes of compressed data you can load.”

Bruh1063d ago (Edited 1063d ago )

In no way am I defending EA, but they do a pretty good job with cross-gen stuff. Usually offsetting the older systems to a smaller team on an older build of Frostbite, while giving the main team, in this case DICE LA the project only on the newer systems.

badz1491063d ago

wait...this is MP only but they still want $70?? WTF are they smokin over there at EA HQ?

CornholioX1063d ago

I'm buying it day 1 ( not a joke ;) )

RosweeSon1063d ago

Biggest joke is it’ll be replaced within 12-18 months time for people to speak with wallets I been doing it for years but come on people just play 4 or 5 some more, or don’t but don’t get this Day1 or at all 🤣 wait for the proper next generation versions that aren’t half arsed and still expecting full next gen prices for last gen games. Jog on EA. Couldn’t even show and in game screenshot it’ll be 30%+ within 3 months don’t do it 🤞🏻🤞 27995;🤣 same with Fifa just stretch last years out for another 6 months 😱 a whole 18 months with one version, let’s face it the stadiums don’t change the teams do marginally a number on the end changes and the soundtrack and that’ll be £70. Play your own tunes and use the transfer market 😑🤣 save your cash Fifa is best part 50/70% off within 6 months it’s an utter joke and they are mugging you right off people 🤷🏻‍♂️✌🏻 ;😜🤣 don’t get me wrong not terrible games but each and every year?! Surely if the games are that good they don’t need a replacement every 12 months looks at Nintendo (1 Mario kart/smash bros per gen etc) rockstar one GTA per 3 gens 😑🤣 EA 7-8 FIFA’s a gen 6-8 battlefields 🥱💰💰 28527;✌🏻😜

gamer78041063d ago (Edited 1063d ago )

Wait a week and it will be 60, nothing about this game warrants that price

CyberSentinel1064d ago

No single player campaign, pass for me.

zumlauf141064d ago

lol yes because battlefield always had quality campaigns /s

JEECE1063d ago

Yeah. After everyone who said they'd buy Titanfall 2 if it had a real campaign bought COD instead, I'm guessing EA has pretty accurately figured out that the "no campaign, no buy" people aren't worth listening to.

Kavorklestein1063d ago (Edited 1063d ago )

It's usually had decent campaigns tbh.

I personally think lots of people will buy whatever their fave streamers/content creators/friends buy. I also feel like if enough streamers, etc... get hooked on this game for a solid month or more, then it will be huge, and it won't matter if we buy it now or after a sale.

It will already have millions of people who bought it at full price. I kind of hope it has enough content and some solid game modes to dethrone the onslaught of BR modes everyone is hooked on. I love me some Warzone and Apex etc... but only playing 1-3 maps for a year+ gets kinda samey after a while.

I don't really wanna pay 70 bucks, but EA Play/Gamepass will probably give a bit of a discount at some point.
Since I'm paid up for the next 2.8 years with Gamepass, that could save me money on the game if I decide to buy it day 1 or week 1 or something.

Hope it ends up good. But I'm still very bummed about no SP.

FPS_D3TH1064d ago

The game mode only a fraction play once if at all? Shame

1064d ago
Yui_Suzumiya1063d ago

That's all I buy these games for

badboyz091064d ago

same I'm passing or waiting for it to hit like $20

Fluttershy771063d ago

maybe it will only hit like $30

moriarty18891064d ago

same for me. hard pass. lazy devs wanting maximum money for minimum efforts.

BrockEmSockEm1063d ago

i don't blame you. I don't mind just multiplayer games, but making it $70 and adding $15-20 microtransactions is greedy af

badboyz091063d ago

I'm patient I can wait for a few months till I find a copy for $20.

Inverno1064d ago

I thought we were all in agreement that we weren't going to pay full price for multi-player games? So 70 bucks, season passes, and microtransactions. I'm glad I don't get excited about multi-player games

Chriswheeler221064d ago

Not me, its my favorite hobby, a few extra bucks a year aint shit.

Applejack1064d ago

Maybe they should charge you $100 for the game since an extra $30 a year “ain’t shit”.

OneLove1064d ago

@Applejack just cuz you can doesn't mean you should.

Applejack1064d ago

@OneLove I agree, that was the point I was making.

Mikeyy1063d ago

Applejack I get where your coming from but to be honest it used to cost me $120 a year for call of duty.

$70 + $10 for battlepass is the better of 2 evils.

1064d ago
PitbullMonster1064d ago

70$/80€ for 7 Maps. They must be crazy.

1063d ago
CornholioX1063d ago

I'm crazy too and i will buy it day 1 :)

An Update on Battlefield 2042 and Welcoming Motive Studio to the Team

EA:

While we’ve enjoyed and are proud of creating these seasons of additional content for Battlefield 2042, it is now necessary for us to turn from the present to the future. What this ultimately means is that Season 7 will serve as the final season for Battlefield 2042. After Season 7 concludes, we will continue to support the game with new in-game challenges, events, modes, and of course, ongoing maintenance, but we are moving away from delivering official seasons.

Streamer Claims DICE Paid Over 60 Content Creators for Battlefield 2042 Feedback, Then Ignored It

Streamer Shroud says that DICE paid 60 to a hundred content creators to help develop Battlefield 2042, but ignored every single advice.

GoodGuy0942d ago

No wonder the game ended up the way it did
What they should've done was ask BF fans. Most general content creators typically go for the trend and the top creators stream games like LOL, fortnite, dota, gtaV, battle royale etc.

_SilverHawk_41d ago

A lot of times people want a game to be something else and I'd probably guess a lot of people wanted call of duty or a lot of it's features.

Bf2042 is amazing now but was not so much at launch. A lot of improvements made the game an amazing game with its own identity. I'm hoping the new battlefield game coming next year improves upon everything in bf2042 and is more akin to bf3 and bf4.

Gamingsince198141d ago

I want them to do a new bad company instead

DustMan41d ago

A ton of people have written the game off now. Which is unfortunate because I find it to be one of the best multiplayer shooters available now. I've been aware that a Battlefield game has not launched in a good condition since....I don't remember. So I never played at launch due to the horror stories, but it seems to have pulled a Battlefield 4 and really turned itself around. Good stuff. Love getting 4 kills on an apc with a well placed RPG, or Stinger to a loaded chopper lol. No other game has given me that kind of joy. lol.

Kornholic41d ago

To be fair, I would not listen to content creators/influencers either.

BISHOP-BRASIL41d ago

Look, I wouldn't pee on an influencer if they were on fire, but why pay for their feedback only to ignore it?

Kornholic41d ago

I don't know. Maybe they thought it was a good idea at first but eventually found out that it was best to ignore influencers' opinions?

jznrpg41d ago

I’ll give some advice and take money for it. You can use it or not use it just make sure to pay me

badboyz0941d ago

who would've thought🤷‍♀️

Yi-Long41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

Battlefield fans just want Battlefield to be Battlefield. Which means a focus on Conquest-mode (5/6 flags), some gorgeous and fun maps to play on, 4 balanced classes, and that's it.

The suits keep wanting to turn Battlefield into everything else BUT Battlefield, so first they wanted BF to be more like Call of Duty, so they copied a bunch of stuff from CoD. Then they wanted to take advantage of the Battle Royale stuff, so they went after that crowd. Then they saw the heroes stuff in Overwatch and so they brought in specialists. Etc.

Guys, we just want Battlefield. Not every games has to be everything to all people. Specialize in what makes (made) your series great, which is large(r) maps (appropriate size for the amount of players, which IMO should be 24-32 max, so not just big for bragging brights), integrating vehicle-combat, and just allowing the freedom and flow which made those matches in older Battlefield games so special at times.
