Square Enix Reports 3.5 Million Users For Outriders

"With over 3.5 million unique players, average play times of over 30 hours and extremely high engagement for co-operative play, we and the amazing team at People Can Fly are so excited with this initial success,” said Jon Brooke, Co-Head of Studio at Square Enix External Studios.

waverider1091d ago

Where it sold would be also nice to know.

sho0ok3601091d ago

Not really.

Also obviously it's gonna be higher on PlayStation since it has double the install base compared to Xbox, and in Xbox people played it for free without purchasing the game. So sales wouldn't reflect on how really it performed.

roadkillers1091d ago

100% agree, it was bundled in with gamepass

Nyxus1091d ago

It's 3.5 million players actually. So it doesn't matter if people bought it or if they played it through Gamepass.

waverider1091d ago

not really. Gamepass can be an excuse. it would be good to see. No matter if Sony got double or more the install base. And yes sales will reflect on how really it performed, because its with sales that Square Enix wlill get profit. You cant compare a game that cost 60 or more with a service you can get for 1 buck.. Even if Microsoft payed millions to get it on Gamepass.

CaptainHenry9161091d ago (Edited 1091d ago )

It has to be playstation since you can play it for free on gamepass or play it if you're subscribe to gamepass

northpaws1091d ago

I remember when someone say they get a game for free from PS Plus, they would get attacked, because people say it is not free, they are just "renting" a game.

So, be careful of your wording, I don't want you to get attacked.

neutralgamer19921091d ago

Square enix must have gotten a huge check because on ps it sold at full price

Also, how many refunded since?

Nyxus1091d ago

It actually says unique players, not sales, unless I'm missing something.

Garethvk1091d ago

Phone auto correct. Have updated and told Mod.

JEECE1091d ago

Yep, very deceptive given the games inclusion on Gamepass.

TheGreatGazoo301090d ago

Why is that deceptive? They make money off GamePass, and unique users and average playtime is far more important than a sales figure.

JEECE1090d ago

@TheGreatGazoo30

It's deceptive because the title (which has been corrected) made an assertion that the article does not support. That does not mean that the article doesn't convey interesting information.

As far as whether the number of unique users is more important than sales, is it? Because when a game has a lower barrier (Great Steam sale, PS Plus, Games with Gold, or Gamepass) a lot more people will check it out, but by definition they aren't as invested as people who bought the game. The average playtime may correct that, but it also may not. The average playtime of people who bought the game may be far higher than the average playtime of those who got it on Gamepass. Without knowing how many people got it each way and how those people are playing it, it's difficult to know whether the number of users is more important than sales.

Not a bad game, but man was it generic. I was not impressed and got bored fast. I will be surprised if this game hangs around TBH. It won't be worse than Anthem, but won't topple Destiny 2 or The Division 2.

jznrpg1091d ago

The demo turned me off right away, it was super janky with ok gameplay . I have a friend at work who said it was janky too but played it on Xbox because he said there was nothing else interesting play at the time . He put in a week and got his save file deleted and never went back . Now he is playing Battlefront 2 again , sad .

Darkborn1091d ago (Edited 1091d ago )

I said the same thing on here after I played the demo and was down voted by Xbox fans that were super hyped about it being on gamepass. The game felt like it could have been released on the ps3 and it would have been OK.

glennhkboy1090d ago

the beginning 1/3 part, with mostly earthly setup are really generic. It opens up when it shift to alien environments & story does it really start to get interesting.

Thundercat771091d ago

How was this article approved with that title? The article talks about unique users and the title says "sales". Everyone approved without noticing that simple detail?

On the other hand. It would have been good to see how it sold on each available platform physical and digitally.

The 7 Best Co-op Games on PS5

There's no better way to enjoy your PS5 than with friends, so here's our picks of the best co-op games on the console.

Cacabunga123d ago

For coop, get a used switch instead

jznrpg123d ago

I own a Switch and have never played co-op on it. I do play Elden Ring , Demons Souls and some other co/op games with my friends on PS5. Baldurs Gate 3 is the next game I’ll play co-op. Can’t do that on a Switch

Cacabunga122d ago

I was thinking for couch casual immediate fun.. not online coop games that require some adaptation.

played it..de-installed it after 30 minutes.

Lighter9694d ago

I got pretty far, and just stopped caring. I uninstalled it as well.

Profchaos694d ago

It's extremely generic. It's not bad but it reminds me of the period between 2007 and 2009 where gears introduced cover shooters so almost everyone went out and made a unreal engine 3 cover shooter.
It feels like that to destiny

IanTH694d ago (Edited 694d ago )

For some it is. At launch, I expect more people felt that way. It also had tons of technical issues back then, at least on PC. I tried it after the New Horizons expansion later last year. I found the campaign enjoyable enough, even if not an amazing one. The gameplay was pretty fun, the story was pretty pants (but how many games can say otherwise lol). Still had some bugs even then, though.

I've no idea what is in the newest expansion, but if it ever piqued your interest, I'd suggest giving it a shot. It might give you 20-30 hours of fun before it fizzles out. Maybe I'll look into this expansion, see what's what.

MadLad694d ago (Edited 694d ago )

I'm having fun with it.
Originally avoided it having heard of the issues around launch.
It has been sitting on Gamepass so finally downloading it the other day.
I'm about 3 hours in, have my Trickster class at level ten, and it's a pretty good time.

Don't know if I'll end up beating it or not, but I'd give it a solid 8 so far, personally.

Livingthedream693d ago

Nah it’s fun, first 30 minutes ain’t enough. Give it a go!

Terry_B693d ago

Bad...nah. Its simply super boring

I played through the entire campaign. It was very generic. The story was mediocre and the technical issues on PC were pretty bad. They patched it up quite a bit. It plays better now. I can say the only reason why I enjoyed it was because I missed Division 2-type gameplay but was was tired of running around the same areas in New York. The endgame is just an enemy hitpoint multiplier where a tiny creature has 20,000 HP. It's too bullet-spongy.
