Strangely not so much in the case of Streets of Rage though. I remember the grief they gave the SOR Remake team in the early years of the project.
That's a good thing because fans have been making better Sonic games than the actual company has in the last 15 years or so. Mania would be an exception but: "The development team was composed of members known for their work in the Sonic fangame and ROM hacking community"
