Meet Returnal’s Selene Scanned Face Actress Anne Beyer

It is common practice these days to digitally scan an actor for a game. Particularly if this character will end up being on screen a lot with a substantial amount of dialog. Housemarque followed this trend and scanned in Anne Beyer in order to give Selene a distinct look.

Adding in a man jaw that doesn't go there. The person's jawline is clearly feminine but we can't use that for reasons unknown.

I think it is a clear disservice to the actress.

I don't think it goes that deep lmao. I do agree tho it is different. Maybe it's just a base and they alter it a bit to not look exactly the same? I do have to say i like when they use face scan for some games. There's a lot of imperfections on the face normally and when creating a face from the scratch they sometimes look too perfect (which is fine for some games)

she allready looks older than she is, so obviously they didnt wanna go for a carbon copy of her body/face. it has nothing to do with a disservice or not.

Housemarque only has 80 staff members too. Looks and plays pretty fantastic for such a small studio. I saw some idiot comparing Resident Evil 8 to this?! Yeah let's compare a studio that has almost 2700 workers to the one that has 80. 😆 What an idiot

Well halo infinite isn’t out yet. So we’ll see. Halo 2 anniversary had easily the best facial animations I had seen in a long time.

I get that they're charging the same. It feels like to me at least that they're seeing what Housemarque can do. If it goes well I'm assuming Playstation might purchase them and invest I to making them a bigger true AAA studio. But who knows. I'm quite enjoying the experience so far. Finally made it to the boss of the 1st biome and got that sword!

Appreciate the sensible counterpoint! Forgot that the price was in line with AAA games. So I guess expectations are there as well. Hopefully we get to see more from Housemarque on a bigger scale going forward. I can only imagine what a fully staffed larger Housemarque could bring to the table. On a counterpoint, look at Halo Infinite and how their expectations got turned around with that bad showing they had last year and 343 studios is fully staffed and has 750 people making Halo.

I was thinking the same thing. Most female astronauts (well astronauts in general) have a very average worldy look to them. It gives it a sense of realism and imo helps keep focus on what the game's really about.

I was very surprised to find out it wasn't Sigourney Weaver. She sounds a lot like her. Given the setting I wonder if that was intentional.
