On one hand this is great news for Sony (a sale is a sale), but on the other I am still without one and millions of others are as well. So thank you scalpers... Sony appreciates all you do for them.

(yes I'm bitter that i still can't buy a PS5)

HICK1166d ago

I don't think Sony appreciates it because scalpers aren't buying games or subscribing to PS+ which is where Sony makes the most money. Scalpers are costing Sony money at the moment as is confirmed by the jump in sales of Spiderman when new stock drops in UK and real buyers get PS5s.

Sunny_D1166d ago (Edited 1166d ago )

Actually the fact scalpers are still buying up PS5’s means that they are still selling like hot cakes to people who are willing to pay extra for a PS5. If no one was buying from scalpers, then they wouldn’t continue to buy up all the stock. So in the end (it doesn’t even matter), it’s most likely still going to a unique user who will buy games for the system.

andy851165d ago

That's just because more in general get them when more stock is released. I'd be willing to bet that 99% of launch day consoles have been turned on by now. All the scalped consoles will be in the hands of true gamers because the price is steadily falling, it just sucks they have to pay extra for the privilege

Muzikguy1165d ago

Scalpers are costing Sony money for sure. They should just start releasing to physical stores so this can be remedied (and I can get one)

Army_of_Darkness1165d ago

In store ps5 purchases only! Make it happen! Like the good old days...

That sucks. I was able to buy enough next gen consoles for friends and family...like 6 PS5s and 3 digital, 8 Series X, and 5 Series S. I have a few for me also. Got a 3080 as well. Injust need another one for my son's rig. Guess i got lucky back at launch. Hope everyone gets one soon.

UltraNova1166d ago

What the hell man, are you trolling?

RedDevils1165d ago

Yeah right get 3080 while get 6 PS5, who are you trying to convince people on the internet or you?

andy851165d ago

Honestly it's not even impossible to get that many. If you follow all the twitter pages that inform you when there's stock somewhere instantly and use the discord stock chat it was actually pretty easy. I got my personal one and one each for 2 friends pretty easily, and Series X notifications were popping up very frequently

Sayai jin1165d ago

@UltraNova, Am I trolling? Huh? No. Me and my wife were able to use our phones and PCs to order most of those on the PS5 and Xbox launches. We had little issues with ordering those consoles. It sucks to know people are still waiting or having to deal with scalpers.

Just as I stated, I hope everyone who wants one gets one soon.

@S2K, are you referring to me? If you are, I am not bitter for any reason. Rushing to these articles?

I don't understand the internet bravado people spew on this site.

Sayai jin1165d ago

@RedDevils49m, proce something? I am not following. If you mean prove to peiple I own those consoles, no. It unfortunate that people are still without consoles mainly do to scalpers and limited suprise. I didn't think it was that difficult to get them on launch day as i had very little problem in doing so.

Yes, I like my toys. I fully retired at age 42 and live very comfortably. I buy my children (all are gamers), other family members, and friends gadgets and the like. I did the same thing last gen Nice surprises. I still have a few consoles that I haven't sent to friends yet, as a few of them are still deployed abroad. I will be getting more as they become more available so I can put them more than just in my theater. Yes, theater. But then again, by your logic I must be trying to prove something.. I have two gaming rigs myself, and one I was lucky to get a 3080. Now, that was difficult to get.

Not sure why my comment reads that I am trying to prove something. Imagine proving something to people who you don't know. That may make sense to you, but not me. I'm a retired SOF vet and middle age gamer, I could care less what people think.

It seems as though your comment says something about you instead of me. Maybe it's an age thing or life status thing, but thinking someone couldn't afford or get those consoles doesn't make since to me. It does to you.

Back on topic, like I aforementioned, I hope all those who haven't been able to get a console is able to get one soon.

Sayai jin1165d ago (Edited 1165d ago )

@Andy, yes indeed. It wasn't difficult for me and some others. I do know others are having problems. There are twiiter pages that will alert you and are pretty on point accord9ng to my son. He wants a 3080 and is using one of those pages or stock alert to get notified. I honestly haven't looked much at getting more for now. I got everyone I wanted to get one for covered, with the exception of one friend in Italy. He got one 3 weeks or so ago by using twitter alerts.

@SegaSaturn, I saw a few arricles on main news sites saying that stock was nore constant now so I assumed it was easier, but when I see people still saying they are having a difficult time (like in this article), it surprised me.

ScootaKuH1165d ago

You're lying, obviously. I mean, who in their right mind would buy a Series S?

Kilua1165d ago (Edited 1165d ago )

That's cool. Im barely able to afford a single digital ps5

LonDonE1165d ago (Edited 1165d ago )

you aint got shit and are probably still playing on an iphone 3gs and ps2.
PICTURE OR VIDIO PROOF or it didn't happen!!
I am a Rap star and i just bought my 3rd private Jet, see we can all boast and live in laalaa land. its insensitive to boast on here without proof while millions are struggling to get consoles

JackBNimble1165d ago

Ya right....
I've even had notifications when they go on sale and by the time I get my order in they've all been sold out.

I'm just going to wait 6 months or a year.

Once PS5 stock delivery and manufacturing normalizes , the sale numbers will skyrocket like there is no tomorrow :D

excaliburps1166d ago

Yep. I know friends who can't even get one. Hopefully, this will get sorted out soon and scalpers will be stuck with a ton of them. Bwahahhaa!

darthv721166d ago

If there is a silver lining to scalpers being stuck with product, it is they are more willing to haggle on the 2nd hand market. That's how I got my wiiu years ago when they were first being scalped. Got it for less than retail after there was enough stock to go around.

Im already seeing local sellers only marking up but $100-200 instead of close to double.

Sayai jin1165d ago (Edited 1165d ago )

@excal, tell your friends to use teitter restock alerts. I have heard and seen people have luck with that.

@Darth, legit retailers are marking them up?

Timzster1166d ago

Here's hoping that it does happen soon and we all can get one without any scalping on the horizon.

ocelot071166d ago

It's going to be another generation where Sony sell another 100+ million consoles I think.

Here in the UK it's hard enough getting a disk ps5 console. But the digital I am starting to think is a myth. Never seen one in stock and every time I see on twitter of people excited they finally got a console it's always the disc one. Followed by loads of people upset they have yet again missed out on the cheaper digital.

darthv721166d ago

Sort of like the 20gb vs the 60gb PS3? I swear I can find 60's and up but its next to impossible to find the all black 20gb. It's like they only made a small portion of those before they were axed in favor of the 40gb non-bc models.

ocelot071166d ago

Here in Europe we didn't even get that 20gb PS3. But yer it's kind of like that. Am sure Sony know that majority want the disc version. But it seems like the digital one is in so much demand I have never actually seen one in-stock.

yeahokwhatever1166d ago (Edited 1166d ago )

why would you not want the 60gb ps3? that system is PERFECT. mine doesnt even work anymore and I still have it on my entertainment stand because it just looks so good.

darthv721166d ago

^I want the 20gb because it is different in that it is all black where as I already have a chrome trim 80gb as well as the gun metal 40gb variants.

Einhander19711166d ago

Its a beast, dualsense amazing, the true power of this system in a few years will be incredible.

IGN Entertainment acquires Eurogamer, GI, VG247, Rock Paper Shotgun and more

IGN Entertainment has acquired the Gamer Network family of digital brands for an undisclosed sum. As a result of the acquisition, some redundancies have been made across the UK-based organisation.

Well this can only mean one thing... more job layoffs even in the publication industry.

Jin_Sakai7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

“Layoffs occuring“

Yep. IGN now has a monopoly in the gaming media.

“As a result of the acquisition, some redundancies have been made across the UK-based organisation.”

“Gamer Network's publications are GamesIndustry.biz, Eurogamer (including six local language editions), Rock Paper Shotgun, VG247 and Dicebreaker. The business also holds shares in Outside Xbox, Digital Foundry and Hookshot (which operates Nintendolife, PushSquare, PureXbox and Time Extension).”

“IGN Entertainment is the division of Ziff Davis that includes IGN, MapGenie, HowLongToBeat, and Humble Bundle. It has acquired the websites from PAX and New York Comic-Con organiser ReedPop, which initially bought the Gamer Network business in 2018.“

Jingsing7h ago

When say IGN you mean Microsoft's chief propagandist.

-Foxtrot6h ago

All this means is a collective hive mind when reporting the news

They’ll discuss with each other how to handle topics and what kind of headlines to go with so they can fire round after round of whatever point they want to make

And the sad thing is over the many years even to the old GameGate days they love making gamers look bad as a collective. Anything for a hit piece.

victorMaje6h ago

Narrative control. I don’t like this at all.
Independent reviewers will be more important than ever.

JEECE2h ago

"They’ll discuss with each other how to handle topics and what kind of headlines to go with so they can fire round after round of whatever point they want to make."

You say this like it will be a new thing that they didn't already do.

OtterX5h ago

Yea, I had actually just seen today on Linkedin that a GamesIndustry.biz guy was talking about being laid off. I didn't read all of his post, but I bet it's because of this. That's a shame to hear. :\

Petebloodyonion7h ago

Probably Microsoft's fault!
They surely gave IGN the idea.
What's next IGN Pass?

But joke aside let's hope that this makes the news better compared to some of IGN branches

Jingsing7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

Microsoft and IGN work quite closely so it isn't a stretch to say this is a move to control the gaming press to get everyone singing from the Microsoft hymn sheet. Not a good look at all. It is transparent stuff like this which is backfiring in Microsoft's face. First they want control of all the games now the media.

crazyCoconuts6h ago

While there's obviously a desire to preserve add revenue and early access to review copies, I doubt there's the level of conspiracy here that you imply. I mean there's no direct link between MS and IGN right?

Petebloodyonion6h ago

You're probably right!!!!
Here's MS evil plan
1) Make sure that Hellblade 2 receives inflated reviews.
2) Fire all the ppl across UK who gave Starfield the justified 6/10 reviews
3) Make sure that Game industry.biz stops giving Sony's president a tribute to spew their lies and have them talk to Sarah Bonds and Todd Howard only.
4) Control the majority of players for the GOTY award so MS wins from now on.

PPL needs to know about this!

Jingsing6h ago

@crazyCoconuts The world has moved on from "direct links" as companies were easily caught doing that. These days corporations can merely operate as a cartel through shared mutual interest which is not strictly kosher either but is also more difficult to prove. It's the fundamental flaw with big corporations in the US economy today and no one in power is addressing it.

Lightning774h ago

Is there proof to anything you're saying?

I've never heard of anything like this or is this N4G once again make believing stuff outta thin air again?

crazyCoconuts3h ago

@jing if you have proof then I stand corrected.
Otherwise it seems like more conspiratorial thinking to explain what could otherwise be explained by natural forces of market economies.
Don't get me wrong, I believe there is bias all over and unsavory influences. I just don't think it's all centrally planned by evil villains in a smoke-filled room

IGN and Eurogamer...A match made in heaven!!

thesoftware7305h ago

Aloy!
Yes, good credible websites, I agree, it is a good match.

IGN is one of the most trusted gaming sites, weather you like it or not, but I know because they don't fit the N4G goofiness bubble, they can't be good.

shinoff21831h ago

I left ign years ago. Used to be on the ign forums all the time. I left there and found here. Not sure if you remember but this place used to be pretty bad for Sony fans. 360 was king for a few years. Anyone I don't quite remember but ign changed. Whatever the fk it was it seemed for the worse.

Lexreborn27h ago

Ummmm not sure that’s a good thing that all these review sites are under the same umbrella. There’s no guarantee that they will maintain a non-bias opinion not paid for by the highest bidder.

MrNinosan6h ago

They haven't been non-bias since GamePass was crowned "best service in gaming".

Amplitude4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

You can go much farther back than that. Never forget the Kane and Lynch 2 review drama

Edit: wait that was GameSpot. Still though - don't trust these websites for anything. Find YouTubers like who's opinions you agree with and watch them instead. GaminylGames, Minimme, Digital Foundry, GMan, whatever. All better than these ad-filled "reviews" from people who are forced to play games and score with an arbitrary number

MrNinosan3h ago

@Amplitude
Digital Foundry has lost my trust ever since they got that MS money, but other than that, I'm with you.

If I'm on the fence of a game, I wait till the reviewers that share my taste has given their opinion.

Charal7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

Ouch, that does not sounds good for Eurogamer.
With so much of the industry media that will more or less follow the same editorial line, it will be harder and harder to distinguish PR from actual journalism in a couple of years.

Thinking about it, may it explain their review score for Hellblade 2?

Christopher6h ago

***harder and harder to distinguish PR from actual journalism in a couple of years. ***

The age of gaming advertorials.

Petebloodyonion6h ago

You're right all of this is just to promote Hellblade 2 and inflate the score.
Also the why cuts are indeed coming to Eurogamer and other UK branches because they only gave Starfield an average score.

Jingsing6h ago

Shed the non US assets that are not favorable to Xbox keep the US assets that are. Microsoft are going to deliver crap and they are going to tell you their crap is good and you are going to buy it. That seems to be the strategy. At this point I just want them out of gaming as they are operating like cancer.

victorMaje6h ago

Exactly right. No more journalists. Just 1 take regurgitated & paraphrased down the chain. Smh.

Call Of Duty On Game Pass Is A Big Risk Big Reward Gamble

Most folks that have a Gamepass subscription will not spend the $70, they will use Gamepass instead to play COD. MS will most likely make their money from some solely PC players & some solely PS5 owners. Even some PC players may opt to use Gamepass instead of spending $70. I would think MS would want to make every dime they could from retail sales. As long as they put new releases of COD day one on Gamepass, MS will lose out on some sales of COD.

porkChop2d ago

COD makes truck loads of money on microtransactions. That's likely the play. Get more people in the door through Game Pass and sell more microtransactions. Have a steady stream of events to keep people interested so they keep their sub, and then just the sub alone would double the revenue from that player each year.

Elda1d 23h ago (Edited 1d 23h ago )

Buying the game at $70 a pop including the deluxe versions is much better than people subs for a dollar to $15 a month. Die hard fans that usually buy the game also buy into the transactions. Again putting any new COD day one on Gamepass is definitely a sure loss of making some retail money for every copy of COD. With the last iteration of COD being bad most likely people are going to sub to Gamepass to play COD basically saving themselves $70, that is a loss of retail sales.

Kakashi Hatake2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Most that don't have Gamepass will just buy the game and he done with it. People that do will just result in a retail sale being lost. Some will buy the subscription for the month then be done. This is lose lose. Casuals aren't going to pay almost 300 dollars a year for COD.

ApocalypseShadow2d ago

The reality is that Microsoft already knows the answer as stated by them in their documents. PlayStation gamers have built up an ecosystem of games and they aren't migrating over and dropping what they have to buy an Xbox to play one game in a service you have to pay monthly for. Cheaper to just buy the game. And, I'd bet many casual COD players don't know or care about the acquisition.

Which is why Jim Ryan pushed to make sure that that one game continues to be sold as usual on Sony's platform to keep the status quo. Every other IP owned by Activision are worthless. And Activision has shown they don't care about other IP like Tony Hawk by cancelling them.

Sales WILL be lost on Xbox. That's for certain. Microsoft can only hope that Xbox gamers continue to buy up those micro transactions to make up for those lost sales. Only positive for Microsoft is that they get to dip into PlayStation game sales that we all know from history and NPD, that Sony's console sells more games. But increase subs from Sony fans for game pass? Not happening in any way that matters.

Sony, on the other hand, can have their cake and eat it too. They get COD and they can continue dropping more content for their fastest selling GaaS game which is Hell Divers 2. As the game passes 12 million sales and doesn't beat you over the head with micro transactions, Sony has a win win situation and can support the game getting more content to keep players engaged.

As a side note, COD is probably going to turn into some version of Sea of Fortnite Duty. Games as a service sitting in game pass being milked dry with micro transactions and constant updates making you feel you're playing an unfinished game that keeps going and going with no soul.

Tedakin1d 23h ago

I'm not sure why everyone is acting like COD is a surprise. That was always the plan. They said in court during the FTC case they were doing this. They have said repeatedly and recently all first party games are going to Gamepass.

badboyz091d 16h ago

gamepass like PS Plus are rental services. Games like COD you buy not rent. So in my case unless I plan on keeping gamepass for 2yrs minimum than the benefit of adding cod is pointless.
