Did we go back in time? Haven't we known this side day 1?

gamer78041232d ago (Edited 1232d ago )

We have a lot of people didn’t realize it but for basically 121$ (40$ for gold a year on sale). That would convert to gamespass. Then just do quests to add on months. I’m currently good til the end of 2023

Telford911232d ago

yeah. it's not exactly advertised all over the place by microsoft so it'd be easy to miss out In my opinion.

Godmars2901232d ago

At this point, aside from "next-gen" titles coming for it in a few years, its the Xbox's only real selling point. So it has to be brought up repeatedly.

chiefJohn1171231d ago

Lol do you hear how you sound?
"Aside from upcoming games, it's the only real selling point" umm....isn't games the only reason ppl buy Consoles? I don't think ppl buying ps5 and switch to stare at it xD "ya got this puppy cause it looks good."

gamer78041231d ago (Edited 1231d ago )

Gamespass, Xcloud. Next gen games current gen games, BC games, movies and tv integrated with movies anywhere. Robust online with social, screenshot and video captures instantly uploaded online for easy access, clubs, community events, removable hot swappable storage, monetary rewards, and support with the ability to talk to a real person. I could go on....

Godmars2901231d ago

@chiefJohn117:

Way to take what I said out of context, or not all of it.

"coming for it in a few years"

Aside from XB1 games, really just 3rd party last and current gen, the Series X has nothing that proves its hardware. Just beefed up performance on older games, which in a few cases is below that of the PS5.

@gamer7804:
"I could go on...."

You mean, literally repeat XB1's selling points for the Series X. Make me repeat my original comment.

And FFS - monetary rewards?!

You honestly have to be f**king paid to play games on Xbox?

SMH

Neonridr1231d ago

"really just 3rd party". There are plenty of 3rd party games to tide anyone over. These are the most played games on both systems at the end of the day anyways.

Godmars2901231d ago

@Neonridr:

And - AGAIN - the point is that because Series X doesn't have 1st party games, that Xbox's rep towards them is shoddy at best with the crap around Halo Infinite not helping, its at a disadvantage.

InUrFoxHole1231d ago

Lol. Keep up the good fight sir! ROFL!

gamer78041230d ago

@godmars Amazing that Xbox one had a lot of great features too huh? And since when can Xbox one play next gen only games and have removable hot swappable nvme storage...

And of course no one has to be paid to pay games... but it’s a nice bonus...

It is not a direct conversion, 12 months gold will convert to 4 months Ultimate (after subbing).

https://www.eurogamer.net/a...

I took advantage of this as my gold ran out in June 2021, so i upgraded to ultimate for £1, and now the next renewal date is October 2021.

Pfft, and people would have you believe it is not good value

But like gamer7804 said, just do the quests and use your rewards balance to get the gold/gamepass subs for free.

Telford911232d ago

not if you have no current subscription. I bought two 12 month codes of gold from CD Keys plus one month of Ultimate and got converted to 25 months of ultimate plus another 2 or 3 for auto-renew.

DJStotty1232d ago (Edited 1232d ago )

That is why i said it is not a direct conversion (after subbing).

Once you have subbed, even if you let your subscription run out, you can not take the £1 offer, it is for new subs only.

"After you join Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, you can continue to redeem Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass codes. These codes will automatically convert to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate based on the following conversion table. Conversion ratio subject to change."

Source : https://www.xbox.com/en-GB/...

You can only do the 1:1 ratio conversion once, then the above conversion rates apply.

Source : https://answers.microsoft.c...

shabz6661232d ago

yeah i did the same when ultimate had come out, just last year i did it with ea play, I got a year of ea play in nov, and when it switched into gamepass it added another year to my ultimate sub.

DJStotty1232d ago

Yeah when you use the introductory offer, all memberships convert with a 1:1 ratio.

I took the offer of £1 for 3 months, so it converted my remaining xbox live gold at 1:1, and then added 3 months extra on top.

The same would apply for anything already redeemed gamepass/gold/eaplay

1231d ago
DJStotty1231d ago

It is well worth it, even at full price, i am now in the process of upgrading my PC so i can benefit from gamepass on PC.

I just don't see how Gamepass can be profitable for MS.

talocaca1232d ago

It's very likely not. But Microsoft doesn't reply need their gaming division to be profitable and they never have.

SmokinAces1232d ago

That literally makes no sense, so you think they have an entire division at Microsoft that they are fine with if it never makes money, lol ridiculous.

TheCaptainKuchiki1231d ago (Edited 1231d ago )

Nonsense. MS didn't become one of the most profitable companies by letting some of their divisions bleed money or have low profitability. There's a reason why they sold Nokia so fast.

Dragonscale1231d ago (Edited 1231d ago )

Stupid argument. Of course it needs to be profitable, you think they do it out of the goodness of their hearts lol.

SmokinAces1232d ago

The only way it becomes profitable for them is by saturation, by getting as many people hooked into the service as possible it increase its overall profitability. As of right now the goal for MS is to get those people hooked in, once that goal has been achieved you can rest assured these deals will disappear and then price increases will begin and that's how it will become profitable. Like most everything MS does they're playing the long game.

TheCaptainKuchiki1231d ago (Edited 1231d ago )

They would need far more subscribers than they're currently getting.
As the base grows the costs will also increase and even with several dozens of subscribers, I don't see how this could be more profitable to them than XBL or PS+.
There's also the fact that most people get discounts on Gamepass so they don't even get the full money from their pying subscribers.

I_am_Batman1231d ago

My guess is that they are still mainly focused on expanding the userbase, before leveraging it for profit. Focusing on the profit margin too early would slow down their growth. The bigger the revenue the more impactful the profit margin will be.

EasilyTheBest1231d ago (Edited 1231d ago )

I think Gamepass is already profitable for Microsoft or at least evens.
We don't know all the numbers but instead of a big income when a new release comes out its a continuous steady amount which is much better for any company. I think they are on 20 million subscribers at the moment, that's a lot of monthly cash. Once they are on 100 million subscribers the games won't stop.

TheCaptainKuchiki1231d ago (Edited 1231d ago )

Can they even reach 100 millions ? There's no way. They got 15 million subscribers after 3 years. Sony has 40+ millions PS+ subscribers and that's with them dominating the home console market where you need a PS+ subscription to play online.

EasilyTheBest1231d ago

The Captain, that's where X cloud comes in. You don't need a console. It'll eventually be on your Smart TV.

Orchard1231d ago (Edited 1231d ago )

@TheCaptainKuchiki You are comparing PS+ to game pass? They are not equivalent.

PS Now = Game pass
PS+ = Gold

Microsoft also has 40+ million gold subscribers.

Game pass has hit 15+ million subs in 3 years - PS Now has 2.2 mil in 6 years.

As for can they reach beyond the number of consoles sold? Sure - it’s also on PC, cellphones etc.

Darthpaul841231d ago

They say it’s making a profit now. Over 15 million subs and most of them aren’t paying 1$ a month

jairusmonillas1231d ago (Edited 1231d ago )

By releasing mediocre and low budget tittles they can. Good for them, bad for consumers. (crap quality)

1231d ago
Rude-ro1231d ago

Microsoft can.
They do the math from the years of collected connected data.
The shills may try to hide it...
But coming from a company that has not made a new AAA game for over a decade... they know exactly the profit level of their consumers.

lellkay1232d ago

It's a lot of effort just for gamepass... I'll skip.

Kavorklestein1231d ago

It's not tho.
1. Buy gold months first. Pay for 1 year or more to maximize conversion.
2. Sign up for Gamepass Ultimate as new subscriber. All months of gold purchased convert to Ultimate.

3. Done.

lellkay1231d ago

Yeah to much effort for gamepass

Kavorklestein1231d ago (Edited 1231d ago )

Can't wait till you dont need hands to play games, eh?
Just tap into this person's brain from now on, they can't be bothered to type on a keyboard, click a mouse, or hold a controller. Used magic softwarez to reply to this comment.

MadLad1232d ago

Best gaming subscription on the market. Humble used to hold that title.

MadLad1231d ago

It is when you're doing a great job in a sea of mostly mediocrity.

Won't happen, software is where all the money is made. These companies take losses on these consoles and then make up for it with software sales.
