Where are the next Next-Gen patches on PS5?

"Months after its release, we're still missing some much-needed upgrades for the new console as the PS4 catalogue remains without next-gen patches"

For the uncap fps games,the ps5 is the patch.
So many games have improved on the ps5.

TallDarknWavy1232d ago

If you look at the development cycle, a lot of the last gen games have devs currently working on next gen titles. Patching old games isn't a priority as the increase in profits isn't obvious from diverting resources to do this.

mikeslemonade1232d ago

Sony sucks in this category.

Rhythmattic1230d ago

Mike.
Sony have a different approach. They approached this as they always do... Hardware. (They tried with a new Rev of the PS3 removing the PS2 chip, implementing software emulation... FAIL) The new SOC Literally has part of it designed to run PS4 games for compatibility..... So in many cases , no code required... Thats why out off the gate , only a few PS4 tiles were listed as not working....
MS use VM's, based in their own DX API... Just a few lines of code... even for 3rd party as most aren't exclusive to the console and are on PC, based one the same DX API.
Thanks my take on it.
Sux in a category that does not what makes it worse.

UncertainCategory1232d ago

Very true, but many of those uncapped games, especially Sony Exclusives, are in performance modes which have resolution caps. So for games like God Of War, you're stuck choosing 60 at 1080, or 30 at 4K.

The games already look great, all they need to do is provide an unlocked framerate option for the 4k modes.

Not to oversimplify game design, but this is not a problem on PC titles, I'm surprised that there are so few PS5 specific patches for PS4 games.

I want to play Horizon at 60 on console. There's a PC version with this capability.. What's the hold up?

warriorcase1232d ago

As a side note for anyone interested.
You can play god of war at 4k60 if you run the unpatched 1.0 version of the game.

_Decadent_Descent1232d ago (Edited 1232d ago )

@TallDarknWavy True that devs of those games are preoccupied, but they really don't need to be the same devs to simply give a "remaster patch" to existing games. Sony could could pull a small dedicated team together and update a lot of deserving titles.

warriorcase1231d ago

Another side note.
Running an unpatched version of Last Guardian also unlocks the frame rate to 60fps.

thorstein1232d ago

To further add (and what I didn't understand at first), you need the right TV.

Most PS5 games like AC: Valhalla have an option: performance or visuals.

I bought a TV that is brand spanking new and not too expensive ($1500) and performance isn't a problem. The TV and the PS5 (and I am sure the XBSX) work in tandem. It's unreal.

RaidenBlack1232d ago

"To further add (and what I didn't understand at first), you need the right TV.

There's a special TV for 60fps?

ScootaKuH1232d ago

I don't understand. What requirements does your tv need to be able to play games at 60fps?

As long as it can output at 4k then you're good to go. Tv's have been able to push 60fps forever.

Now if you want to run a game at 120fps that's a different story, you do specifically need a TV that supports 120hz via hdmi 2.1 as far as I know

thorstein1231d ago (Edited 1231d ago )

Yes. I have a Samsung Q80T. It has a 120 refresh rate. If you TV can't refresh at the same speed of the PS5, then graphics/ performance don't matter.

When I don't have the game on game mode, the screen tears and frame rate are abysmal.

When in game mode I put the game on graphics mode and the game runs silky smooth. It runs exactly like it should it performance mode. It's a total new way of thinking about performance and graphics.

@ScootaKuH

Precisely. My TV has HDMI 2.1 and a 120 refresh rate.

Bloodborne would be glorious in 4k 60fps with ray tracing but sadly that will never happen.

Gardenia1232d ago

Sony owns Bloodborne so a reveal of a remastered Bloodborne that is much wanted will do them good. The question is if they make it a quick free patch or put some more work on it and then sell it as a remastered game. If it is the latter it will take longer.

Juvia1232d ago

Considering the game engine is hard locked to 30 FPS they will have to go the remake route for smooth 60fps. Let's hope that happens!

Mr Logic1232d ago (Edited 1232d ago )

@Juvia

You are 100% wrong. I do not understand why people ignorant on a subject like to speak so definitively. At least take 30 seconds to do a google search ffs, before coming off as a complete tool.

Source: Bloodborne running at almost 60fps on a PS4 Pro rendering at 720p. https://youtu.be/6hDIvDPRcP...

Bobertt1232d ago (Edited 1232d ago )

@Juvia modders on pc said it was hard locked but they were able to patch it to run 60fps. If the devs wanted to they could make a patch but if they are working on a remaster they will hold it back because then there would not be a reason to buy the remaster. Bloodborne looked great on PS4 so i don't see a big enough jump graphically to get people to pay for it when it's free with ps plus.

starsi3601232d ago

@Mr Logic

Why be so aggressive? He didn't say anything rude or inflammatory. Please settle yourself and then come back and speak to the adults here with a bit more respect.

hulk_bash19871231d ago

All they would have to do is unlock the frame rate and the PS5 preformance increase would take care of the rest. Heres hoping.

They will remaster and resell it again.

isarai1232d ago (Edited 1232d ago )

It's up to the devs/publishers, and unfortunately most dont see the payoff in using resources developing a patch for an old game for free. Sure they might see a increase in digital sales, but if it's old it's gonna be cheaper and therefore not really worth it to them. Kinda just falls into the category of good will, which makes no business sense for most devs/publishers 🤷‍♂️

lazyboyblue1232d ago

But Sony should do their games at least. I want to play their ps4 exclusives 4k/60

Runechaz1232d ago

Its more like where are the PS5..

badz1491232d ago

true. no luck since launch for me and I refuse to pay scalper prices! :(

ocelot071232d ago

Very surprised there is no last of us 2 patch yet. Been waiting to play it.

Welshy1232d ago (Edited 1232d ago )

If a game doesn't fundamentally have unlocked framerate or resolution and the developer haven't put a date on anything, you'd be as well just playing your games as it's likely not their priority atm.

Not to mention the slower work flow of development in general with all the COVID rules about working from home.

Mr Logic1232d ago

@Welshy except that I would rather wait 2 years to play TLoU2 at 60fps then play it now.

Muigi1232d ago

It’ll probably launch aside the multiplayer mode.

Furesis1232d ago

Are they still doing that? There is really nothing, that is even been hinted at, that it is being made. Ghost of Tsushima's MP already released some time and that game came after TLoU2

zumlauf141232d ago (Edited 1232d ago )

Very surprised as well. The same with GoT. Considering how recent their launch was. I'm assuming ND is focusing their efforts on Factions. Who knows..maybe they will announce a ps5 upgrade along side factions. It makes sense for games such as GOW to not have an upgrade. The game is 2 years old and they're in the trenches rn with the sequel.

Mefdar1232d ago

Ghost of tsushima runs at 4k 60 on ps5

DivineHand1251232d ago

You may as well play the game since the visuals are modern. If Sony is going to do this, they may try to charge you for the upgrade.

Naughty dog seems to enhance the visuals of the character models during cut scenes but when it switches to gameplay the models and world are downscaled/downgraded. It would be nice if both uncharted 4 and the last of us could keep the high quality models consistently and along with 4k 60. Ray tracing is not a necessary unless we are going to be charged but dual sense support should be a must

ocelot071232d ago

Tbh I am done with 30fps. Expecially for action games. Racing I can deal with. But it's 2021 30fps should be a thing of the past.

Same with GTA. I simply just log on to collect my free $1mill each month on playstation and play it on pc. Hoping this online remaster that's coming in a few months has a 60fps option on ps5.

Playing this at a locked 175 fps on an OLED ultra wide at max settings is truly awe inspiring. A great way to replay this classic.

Psychonaut853d ago

Sweet! Glad to see it make the jump. Hopefully the PSN requirement doesn’t put too many people off. I think it’s only if you plan to play the Legends mode. It’s bullshit, but at least you can access the main game without making a PSN profile if that bothers you. I know on PC everyone’s sick of everyone trying to push their own launchers and shit.

Deeeeznuuuts3d ago

It's really not that big of a deal, PC players just love to complain, my friend has quite a few launches and never once complained, really no issues at all 😂😂😂 28514;

Goodguy012d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Indeed. It's for the trophies and online. I just hope Sony doesn't require ps plus subscription at some point for their online games. PC gamers have dealt with 3rd party launchers forever, just a bunch of silly complaints, nothing different.

just_looken2d ago

@dee

Right how dare those 180 countries that had this game listed a month ago but no longer do complain about a forced new regulation that is blocking the sale of the game even in japan.

Then you got the fact many countries need a goverment id to check if your legally a adult.

I have a psn account that is not linked to my steam account as having any form of vpn/antivirus and even something like discord can break there psn TOS. If your psn account gets banned via pc bs then your entire consoles online are bricked as do too them needing real information we all only have one account now.

FinalFantasyFanatic2d ago

I don't mind having a few launchers, just don't make me log into it all the time, it's astounding that some developers still persist with having their own launchers.

just_looken2d ago

Its a greed deal

Alot of them wanted to leave steam so they would not pay that 30% charge but then there overall number of sales dropped opps so now there back but with there launcher as a leach because all these games have attached bullshit like ubi points or capcom rewards/stat tracking even the activation launcher that needs to be a thing for cheaters/stat track i think even trophies to a extent.

Just be glad we do not have a sony launcher as it would no doubt be fighting rockstar for most unsecured worst launcher on pc.

anast2d ago

So we are lovin' PSN now? How fickle the herd is.

Aloymetal2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Some people love to complain but if it wasn't for Sony themselves they wouldn't be playing these amazing 1st party games on their PeeZees.

20h ago
HankHill2d ago

Cry more while your precious plastic box keeps losing exclusives.

anast2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

As long as your not serious, welcome to the party.

This is fun. My turn.

Yeah, all 10 people that can actually afford a decent PC isn't much. This is why they are drip feeding PC gamers because they'll eat up 10 year old games like they're new, and that's all 10 of them. Consoles gamers already wore that shoe, you all are getting leftovers.

Your turn

Number1TailzFan2d ago

@ anast uhh, looks like the video is showing last gen (soon to be 2 gen old) GPUs running it pretty well to me? I mean if you can't keep your PC decently current then that's hardly the devs fault now is it?

Shiore2u2d ago

@anast

You really need to stop trying so hard, it's getting downright embarrassing. Brand loyalty is a stupid endeavor, accept it, learn from it and move on.

FinalFantasyFanatic2d ago

@anast,
A 7-year-old GPU can trade blows with a PS5 in performance, I don't think it's going to be that hard to match/beat the PS5, especially if you look at the second hand market for parts.

Has Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut PC sales earned around £18 Million in its first week on Steam?

CG writes: The question we’re asking is, has Sucker Punch’s just released stealth-action game Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut on PC earned over £18 million in revenue on release week via the Steam platform alone (also available via the Epic Games Store)?

"also available via the Epic Games Store"

I'm pretty sure Epic Games Store is available in over 190 countries and 30 territories. So anyone that said that this game was not available in them was just lying.

I'm so shocked by games journalists and fauxragers lying. Really shocked. I do pity them though. I can't imagine going through life with such anger... at everything.

bunt-custardly4d ago

Hehe, you do know how much PC players whine about having multiple store platforms when really all they want is Steam to run a monopoly. Thank ye heavens for Gog and Epic.

Giblet_Head3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

When Steam is one of the very few actually trying with it's feature set it's a hard sell to get people to want something on a storefront that could care less about improving it's service. GoG is another exception, but Epic, which is still missing many features that have been on Steam for years like every other publisher just half-ass it, so they've earned and continue to maintain their poor reception and presumably act confused come every quarterly report for failure to understand the market they're in. Who really wants to invest in something that actively instills little faith?

bunt-custardly3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Interesting answer from co-pilot when asked what are the differences between EGS and Steam.

Copilot
The Epic Game Store (EGS) and Steam are both digital distribution platforms for PC games, but they have some key differences:

Game Selection: Steam has a larger selection of games, including both indie and AAA titles, and has been established longer, since 20031. EGS, while newer, offers a curated selection of games, including timed exclusives and titles not available on other platforms1.

Revenue Split: EGS offers a more favorable revenue split for developers, taking only a 12% cut compared to Steam’s 20-30%, which can be a big draw for game publishers1.

Free Games: EGS is known for its regular giveaways of free games, which has been a major feature since its launch in December 20181. Steam also offers free games, but less frequently1.

User Interface: Steam provides a more feature-rich experience with user reviews, community discussions, game streaming, and non-gaming software. EGS has a more streamlined interface, focusing on a simpler user experience1.

Social Features: Both platforms offer social features like friends lists and chat functionality, but Steam’s community features are more extensive, including groups, forums, and user profiles1.

Exclusivity: EGS has secured exclusive deals for certain games, making them available only on their platform for a limited time before they can be purchased elsewhere1.

These are some of the main differences that set the two stores apart. Each platform has its own strengths and caters to different preferences and needs.

Co-Pilot forgot to mention: Both offer software, but Steam is very much more in-tune with VR with its Steam VR integration.

@bunt-custardly
I wouldn't take AI as gospel, especially a corporate one that ends most every answer with meaningless neutral ambiguity. You're better off actually talking to humans that use either and have something to lose, be it time, energy or financial investment. Personal experiences AI can't relate to.

Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut PC Opening Gameplay - A stunning game on PS4, now even better
