IGN, GamesRadar, Polygon, Eurogamer and Destructoid, all have given their Goty to Hades.

I have never seen an indie title win Goty from so many big critics against a top tier AAA game.

LOGICWINS1227d ago

To each their own, mine was DQ11 S.

Shiken1226d ago

That version is a 2019 game.

Eonjay1226d ago

That's the point. It clearly isn't their own.

NecrumOddBoy1227d ago (Edited 1227d ago )

Ezio,

Journey and Tell Tale’s The Walking Dead took GOTY several years back. Not too often indies take GOTY though.

Ezio20481227d ago

Journey and Walking Dead didn't have a top tier AAA game winning 100 goty awards that year.

RgR1226d ago

Indies probably deserve goty more often. I've played so many recently that have just been far beyond anything triple A games tend to be.

Kekewei1226d ago

@Ezio2048 : Assassin creed 3 , Mass effect 3, Halo 4 were all godlike AAA titles that year.

potatoseal1227d ago

It seems to be the 2nd most popular in the awards, so I'm not surprised.

Picked up Hades this morning on Steam. All these GOTY awards have me intrigued.

CantThinkOfAUsername1226d ago

I want to play it, but Steam's negative reviews citing backtracking and going through the same areas over and over are things I particularly dislike.

It also surprises me that taking "Epic's bribe money" doesn't seem to hurt this game one bit.

RazzerRedux1226d ago

Steam's negative reviews? Hades has a 98% "overwhelmingly positive" rating. I've played it a bit today and I think it is fantastic. I'm looking forward to leveling up a bit and getting more powerful. You do that by keep playing and building up after each "death". Now that may not be for everyone, but to me it is a lot of fun.

Kabaneri1226d ago (Edited 1226d ago )

Its a roguelike, of course you have to backtrack and play the same areas over and over.

Gianoni331226d ago

My pick as well. Really great game!!!

YoungKingDoran1226d ago

Terrific story and characters. Still haven't been able to beat Hades on Hell mode, yet

Fraggle19871226d ago

Is a great game held back by short length which gives way to repetition. That first full run though is brilliant.

As great as it is, putting it ahead of the likes of ff7 remake, tlou2, demon souls and spider man is a bit ridiculous tbh but to each there own i suppose.

The Wood1226d ago

Is it true you have to play it through in one sitting

Aren't there any save points

RazzerRedux1226d ago (Edited 1226d ago )

To beat the game you have to play through in one sitting. But when you die you level up and become more powerful, but you have to start over. You take that power and are able to move further along into the game, but yeah, you start from the beginning every time, but you don't lose your powers from one "sitting" to the next. They do save. You become more and more a badass. It is fun as hell.

RazzerRedux1226d ago

The game take over 10 hours to beat from what I've read. Not sure what you mean by "first full run through". The "first full run through" means you beat the game which takes some time.

Fraggle19871225d ago

Took me only bout 6 hours for first full run through. I wanted more. Should have been longer.

RazzerRedux1225d ago

"Took me only bout 6 hours for first full run through. I wanted more. Should have been longer."

What do you mean by "first full run through"? From the beginning to end in one sitting or from the first time you launched the game to finally beating it? Because 6 hours is either extremely long or extremely short from what the recorded times have been.

Hades just reached an all-time high player count on Steam ... thanks to Hades 2

Hades, which released all the way back in 2018, has just seen the highest player count on Steam ever - with Hades 2 fueling the surge.

The current discount of 66% off probably helps. Was good enough to convince me to finally buy it.

Looking forward to this. Hades is easily one of the best games of last-gen. Just hoping they nailed the characters again in Hades 2, because they were fantastic in the first game.

It will be very hard to top.Zagreus as a main character btw.

Popsicle8d ago

Loved the original Hades. Can’t wait!

Nacho_Z8d ago

I was addicted to Hades, the loop pulls you in and doesn't let go. It helps the gameplay is so much fun. Working towards beating the max heat level was the most enjoyable and satisfying challenge I've had for as long as I can remember.

Over 200 hrs in the first Hades without even really realizing it. Can’t wait for 2.

I never got around to mass effect - I’m skeptical that it would hold up if I were to try it now

Furesis17d ago

I would say it does. The combat is a bit shit for todays standards but everything else is great.

anast17d ago

It's worth a play through today.

gold_drake17d ago

the first one is abit the odd one out but after u finished it, believe it it gets tremendously better and better
