Bricking them? Is it really though?

People seem to through this term around these days when the system crashes and you need to hard reboot, so I hear it and shrug it off these days.

Anyone aware of if this is actually true or is it just more nonsense for clicks?

StoneyYoshi1263d ago

Yeah there are multiple videos of people saying their PS5 is broken/bricked when it's just making a noisy buzzing sound.

But its nice to see there is news about the XSX having similar issues that everyone has been up in arms about with the PS5 saying the XSX is perfect and doesn't have launch issues like all consoles experience. I hope this isn't a large issue and gets fixed fast!

Gunstar751263d ago

I've not heard anyone say the series X launch consoles are perfect.... nobody.

There has been more reports of faulty ps5's but that may likely be because they started production earlier and have significantly more units in the wild

Time will tell

Darthpaul841263d ago

You must have missed vids of all the disk drive failures day one on the series x and the loose screws in the box. I’ve honestly not heard a bunch about the ps5 having issues. All things considered with how 2020 has been both consoles have done well quality wise. With how hard these things are to get I wouldn’t wish one breaking on anyone . Because it could take months to get a new one

InUrFoxHole1262d ago

"But its nice to see there is news about the XSX having similar issues". Spoken like a true troll. No man people worked actual hours of their life to save up money for the product they preferred. You find it nice because it saves your feelings? SMH

SmokinAces1262d ago

There's definitely issues with series x there's just a lot less articles about it.

oof461262d ago

@DarthPaul: I've seen a ton of people post videos on reddit and twitter that others have said to be a GPU problem.

And, no. This isn't a "hahaha ps5 sux!" comment. Been keeping track of both consoles and any problems that arise.

Yes. Reports of consoles bricking
Yes. Reports of crashing
Yes. On all hardware per crashing. Pc, PlayStation, and Xbox.

Take it with a grain of salt, but people are complaining about their Xbox series x consoles going full on locked up.
Warnings are going out, if your cod bops is crashing... you might want to take a break from it because several people have said their systems will not boot anymore.
Could be 3 people... but the news is going around many sites, not just the filtered n4g one offs due to reporting on anything Microsoft more than once is a “duplicate”

Omegasyde1263d ago

If anything this makes we want to wait for revised hardware models from Sony and Microsoft or get really good warranty.

Teflon021262d ago (Edited 1262d ago )

Omega, if software is bricking a console waiting for a revision doesn't change the situation. That revision would get bricked too because it's software related not hardware lol

Mind you this isn't on MS or Sony if these are happening because a games software. This is the stuff they should have been able to catch in the testing phase, but just got through unfortunately

Rude-ro1262d ago (Edited 1262d ago )

@Teflon02

Yeah.. no clue.
Luke Smith had his PS5 brick while playing darksouls.. so no clue what is going on.
They could be over clocking to make the games look their best for launch.
That is what would brick a pc if you push it too much. But you can usually walk that back on pc. Console we can not.

Redlife2g1263d ago

I wouldn't dismiss it.. This game has been plagued with crashes on pc since release and treyarch has done jackshit about it. Just check the forums.

Profchaos1263d ago

Yeah bricking means it's reduced your console to a paperweight never to be turned on again. Articles have just been trying to make spicy headlines and have reduced the value of news so much that black Ops cold war causing some consoles to freeze requiring a reboot just won't get clicks.

Seraphim1263d ago (Edited 1263d ago )

my bet is coincidence. just a bad console out the box & they happened to be playing CoD. be it not enough thermal paste, a bad component or perhaps something else. Electronics have, what, at best, like a 4-8% [sometimes more] failure rate. Not sure where consoles lie in terms of percentage. I'd put money on it just being coincidence though.

If I recall these stories popped up last gen and probably even the gen before that.

S/W doesn't brick H/W. With maybe the only exception being firmware which can, but these days there's usually a way to revert the H/W back to factory settings and recover.Usually! But a game 'bricking' a system? Don't think so. I think the term is misused on many occasions

GamerRN1263d ago

Software can brick a system of it makes it so something out isn't supposed to do and hard crashes in a unique way that makes it unable to recover

dougr1263d ago (Edited 1263d ago )

I disagree. Grand Theft Auto IV bricked my launch PS3 within moments of starting to play it when it came out. Sony even replaced my system out of warranty for no charge.

Sirk7x1262d ago (Edited 1262d ago )

Bad code can certainly brick hardware. At least to the level where the average user can't fix it. Hell, even if a game makes you have to recover your new console/restore it, that's still completely unacceptable. I've had this game shut down my Xbox multiple times, and I refuse to boot it now. Uninstalled until the matter is addressed, explained why it's happening, and fixed.

VersusDMC1263d ago

You guys have to take that "best played on playstation" tagline seriously... :)

Darthpaul841263d ago

After watching the digital foundry video and a few other graphical comparisons videos it’s pretty obvious that statement is a lie. Don’t feel bad though the whole ps5 is better thing lasted a few days that’s more than I got last gen on the Xbox one

Babadook71263d ago (Edited 1263d ago )

This is false. Might want to check the update. The ps5 has a bug that sometimes can briefly lower performance, but otherwise it’s the better version.

1262d ago
Darthpaul841262d ago

Babadook
Bugs are present in the retail version of the game and there’s no guarantee they will be fixed so things are judged as is. I promise u nobody is cutting the series x any slack in that department. Heck digital foundry isn’t even testing all modes available on next generation consoles. For those playing on hdmi 2.0 TVs so the majority turning off ray tracing gives you the option to run the game at a native 4k 60 FPS and only one system gives u that. Little hint it’s not the ps5 and it’s 1892 p 58 FPS. I doubt it’s an accident though Alex is a Microsoft hater and doesn’t mind to fudge things s bit to give Sony an edge. In the 120 FPS mode the average FPS is less that a quarter frame per second difference so I don’t see how that’s some huge victory

Another great month imo. The COD campaign on this one was great fun. I've never played Alan Wake, so a PS5 version of that is a perfect way to prepare for the next one...

taurul318d ago

You're in for a treat with Alan Wake. It still holds after so many years.
For me it's the best psychological thriller I've ever played that is not Silent Hill.
Alan Wake 2 is my most wished sequel of all time, waiting for it since 2010...

bloop318d ago (Edited 318d ago )

Sweet!! I never got around to playing it on the 360 but always wanted to. Looking forward to next month!!

Crows90318d ago

Agreed. You see I'm surprised that Microsoft hasn't bought remedy...of all the studios in their list....I'd assume remedy would be an obvious based on real actual relationships.

I liked Alan Wake and am super excited for Alan Wake 2. Hopefully turns out great ..I've actually liked ALL of their games including quantum break...except for the TV show part.

Christopher318d ago

I've never bought a CoD game, but now due to PS+, I 'rent' like 8 of them or so. I played one a few times with my nephews. Still not my cup of tea. But, it's interesting to see how many CoD games PS+ can throw at me.

LG_Fox_Brazil318d ago

Pretty damn good, I almost bought Alan Wake last month, glad I held my wallet

REDGUM318d ago

I picked up my copy of it 2nd hand just last Saturday. agghhh. If only I had waited just a little more longer.

Knushwood Butt318d ago

Me too, it's been on my wishlist for months. Glad I held out!

Elda318d ago

A pass for me due to playing Cold War & Alan Wake already.

phoenixwing318d ago

Glad I didn't buy cold war or Alan wake. Now I can enjoy them for the stories

Kassanova07318d ago

I was curious about both. Great timing!
