Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Multiplayer Review - IGN

With stripped back mechanics and an underwhelming set of maps, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's multiplayer is somewhat of a backwards step for the series.

So if they award zombies an 8, that's still less than 7 by average for the overall.
But IGN's final score is irrespective of that math.

Yea, I played it. Its just a pre-MW'19 CoD with modern flourishes.
That's not wot I am referring here.
Its that IGN usually awards high score for the yearly rehashed CoDs (last year marked a bit different coz they awarded a bit lower score to MW because it was not the usual CoD formula and was trying something different).
But this year, they are awarding even lower score because its not like MW'19. IGN confused as usual.
"You guys are giving ______ (insert decent game) a 7.5 while you guys give CoD 9.0 ever year" ~ a common YouTube comment under an IGN review video.

Actually CoD engines are different, that very few know.
There's 3 main versions now.
There's Infinity Ward's IW Engine. ( MW'19 used IW 8.0 [which was completely rebuilt from prior IW 7.0 of Infinite Warfare])
There's Treyarch's BlackOps Engine. (Cold War uses Upgraded version of Black Ops 4 engine [which is actually BlackOps III engine] using features from MW'19's IW 8.0 engine)
And there's Sledgehammer's unnamed engine used in Advanced Warfare and WW2.

IW engine originally started off from Quake's idTech3.
Treyarch had their own NGL engine which they used in CoD3 but later created the BOps engine from CoD4's IW 3.0 engine.
Sledgehammer's engine is heavily reworked from MW3's IW 5.0 engine.

This is the reason, BOIII didn't look as good as Advanced Warfare. And Cold War looks a bit different than MW'19.

Yes he is wrong about the maps. In BO Cold War the maps are so much better than those awful maps in MW. The only problem is that there are only 8 maps so far so that they give them for "free" in the future while they should have been in the game from the beginning.

For cold war I'm only having fun with the zombies and campaign. The multiplayer is so broken. The hit detection is horrendous. I'll see my bullets going into a guys head or chest but no hit markers show up. They always seem to kill me with 2 shots from an smg. I've adjusted my settings and tried all the tips and tricks from YouTube and my frames keep hitching. I just stick to Modern Warfare for mp because it's so much better.

Didn't buy so not fussed, but I am slightly frustrated how support is (assumably) going to get cut off for MW now. Absolutely love that game, Infinity Ward really put heart and soul into it and it truly shows.

Activision could have given a year break to this series and give extra development time and keep supporting MW. But this will generate a billion+ easily

Actually they won't stop supporting MW because Warzone just got released this year.
There was actually news recently about How COD will unify the currency on both game so the progress made in one carry in the other.

This is the worst COD since Ghosts. The Zombies mode is trash too it only has one map and they made it way too arcadey. Honestly the only reason Im playing this is because its the only shooter on PS5 at the moment.

Ouch lol I’ve heard allot complaining about the feel of the gunplay . Itv heard it feels very dated esp after modern warfare. I played MW the shooting was incredible but they ruined it with crap maps and skill based matchmaking

Online multiplayer is excellent the issue is there's 8 maps for normal modes and 2 maps for fireteam mode.

Next week nuketown is out, and week after that there's new Multiplayer modes (it claims extra maps) but I think they will drop 2 extra maps during every season

The biggest downfall for me again like in MW is ofc the aggressive SBMM. Sweat lobbies galore. Hate the snipers. Most of the maps are meh but at least its easier to see people than mw's. Very small amount of launch content. I really feel like most people always see me before I see them. And the whole scorestreaks dont reset upon death is stupid. I do like the feel of the classic cod though. Treyarch and Inf Ward just cant ever get the mp right for me anymore...
Im really enjoying zombies though although it needs some patching.

OK I get the Cod of duty hate but why should the game score a 6 on hate alone?
Last I check the game come pack with 3 game mode and none of them seems to have major issue.
Now regarding this guy reviews, it's clear that he review it on expectation that he would hate it.
Oh sniper aren't too OP but can dominate but suddenly 9/10 ppl use subs.... So what's the problem? You're saying that Sniper are still too good but then you complain that ppl only pick subs?
Why should I care that YOU want core game to feel like Hardcore game?
Why should I care that YOU prefer Team Deathmatch vs all the other mode? or that Ppl still play Dominion vs new game #99?
Why should I care that you feel the level layout to be simplified?
Here's what I do care about in a review
Is there a player base? (no answer)
Matchmaking issue? (no answer)
Latency and how it plays online (no answer)
Are the maps broken (no answer)
Hack, glitch, exploit (no answer)
Load time (no answer)
control (no Answer)

You know, thing that do matters over your personal taste of the map
because I can easily watch the trailer or gameplay video and I can easily decide for myself if I like the art style but broken gameplay? Bugs? etc

Now just a friendly reminder that Overwatch scored a 9.4
for a game that was released at full price with just an online multiplayer that feature 3 mode of team battle on 12 ultra simplified map.

So it sad at the end that a game bring up a single, coop and multiplayer correctly to player get scored 6 out of 10 to please a fan base that will be happy about the result because of the hate instead of actually trying to review the product into helping a customer make a choice.

CoD hasn't been great in years. Sure an updated engine for MW 2019 was nice but it should of been done a long time ago and they added too much bs like skill based matchmaking, lobbies that end after each match, visibility issues especially early on, dead silence not being a perk, taking like 5 patches to get the footsteps sound right, unoptimized game that is over 200gb, shitty cosmetics, and the constantly changing modes. How do you make billions each year and can't keep servers for all the modes. I stopped playing and putting up with the CoD bs and haven't been this productive or happy in a while.
