Agreed. Seems some of the drives aren't even accepting discs, which is weird. As long as it's within the expected failure rates and they replace quickly and for free, it's just frustrating more than anything.

There is video proof showing multiple consoles powering back off the moment they press the power button as well as multiple videos of the disk issues. Some wont go in, some click trying to pull the disk in and fail, and some are just getting very loud vibrations when having a disk in the drive.

Yes, but what concerns me is that this was the exact same problem that bricked my OG Xbox 20 years ago. It ended up not being able to open the disc drive. I still remember how pissed I was because I had Prince of Persia Two Thrones stuck inside the box lol.

I'm actually happy this is occuring at launch as opposed to several years later when the console is out of warranty. Microsoft has the opportunity to fix the issue before I get mine next year.

Ive had that happen with the tray. It was the tray belt broke and i had to take it apart.

@StoneyYoshi: My 360, I had to use the paper clip trick to get a disc out, after the tray stopped working once. For my PS1, I literally had to flip it upside down in order for the laser to keep reading.

The only issue I had was a handshake issue between my SX and my monitor. I turned my SX on before the HDMI was plugged, and after connecting the cable there was no image. I just had to turn the system off and on, and now it's synced with my monitor. Works like a charm.

Usually that was the case but there were some cases where it would happen the moment the disc was inserted into the drive. I believe XBO also had this issue at launch but I could be wrong.

That isn't true fella, I bought mine from Blockbuster and had to return it the next day, along with my copy of Gears of War as the disk drive had scored small circles into the disk. My console was placed in a TV cabinet the whole time.

Oooh yes, I knew of many people having the scratched disk on 360. I also knew a lot of people that had the circular scratched disk on PS2. I've been lucky, I never had the widespread and dreadful RROD or the YLOD(not wide spread).

It might be a small number of faulty consoles. I had 2 Xbox One's with disc drive issues. The one I have now only sucks the discs in half way but at least it still works I guess

To be expected. Some PS5 will have issues with something too, for sure. Release volume is too big to not have any bad apples. Hopefully, these are singular cases.

There will be thousands of defective Series X and PS5s out there. Typical electronic failure rates dictate that. With PS4, even if failure rates were less than 1% (Which is good), that still means over 1m were defective. It doesnt mean we need a story for each one! Fingers crossed you all get a great experience, no matter which platform you choose.

My drive a was little too loud. Took the disc out and there was a tiny speck of plastic on it. The speck was throwing the disc out of balance. It's fine now.

The defective ps5 'articles' were removed/failed but almost every Xbox defective 'article', even duplicates, are still here.

Loads of articles about defective Xboxes have been failed over the past couple of days. This happens for the right reasons.

There are a few reasons why the PS5 one would have been taken down. They were software issues, not hardware, and they were before the launch patches so aren't expected to affect consumers. That's the most important one, in my opinion, but I'll spare the author the embarrassment of explaining the others.

Don't worry, the PS5 has only just hit the public, so there might yet be some genuine issues like there have been with the Xbox. You'll get the articles at that time.

huh ? , but the Xbox Series S doesn't have a drive or mechanical hard drive, hmmm this kind of noise can happen imo when you don't have the components I mentioned , it could be the fan or a relay (even worst) I think, maybe is not the drive is clicking on the series X and something else causing the system not to work properly.

News about problems on consoles are spreading like if every console made as said problem, it's completely normal for new eletronic products to have defects (DOA). How many of us wen't to a store, bought a smartphone, a tv, a LAptop etc, and 5 day or whatever passes and it gives some problem, it is what it is, theres always a percentage of doa's in every eletronic device that is produced in mass scale, it is inevitable.

Like all console issues it’s a luck of the draw thing, I’ve been playing Doom Eternal (Old Gods DLC is so good) via disk the whole time and had no issues with my Series X

But my sympathies to everyone who has problems, nothing worse than waiting eagerly for months only for it to fail in under a day

I wouldn't put much stock into any complaints of issues with PS5 or Xbox until more are in the hands of people and issues become more widespread. Whenever you have millions of units of a new electronic item out there, there will be problems from time to time and with the social information age we live in, you hear about it immediately and loudly. Most of the time these are isolated issues. Unless we start seeing a new Red Ring, don't worry.

The sheer number of people in here who want their console of choice to strive, and their competition to fail miserably, is just disappointing.
I work for a company that releases a new product once every 10 years. During the first 2 years after the launch of a new product, we ALWAYS have higher failure rates compared to the remaining 8 years. This is why companies keep working on respins and release newer (And generally better) revisions. No matter how much QA is done by the engineering team responsible for the design of the hardware, or the folks at manufacturing, some units will fail. Add the current pandemic to the mix, and you'd realize that all of this is pretty normal.

I remember having the issue on the PS3. The dreaded Blu-ray drive issue where it would suddenly stop reading discs as well as the YLOD.

Let’s hope all these first batch of next gen consoles Sony and Microsoft are pretty reliable and don’t have too many issues. It never tends to go well for launch consoles tho to be fair.
