Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Accused Of Becoming A "Play On PlayStation To Win Game"

Activision and Sony have been heavily criticised by Call of Duty fans over "anti-consumer" Black Ops Cold War PlayStation exclusivity.
Yesterday it emerged that PlayStation 4 and 5 players of Treyarch and Raven's first-person shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War get two extra create a class slots, extra tier skips, extra weapon XP and exclusive double XP events.
The Battle Pass Bundle Bonus, as it's called, gives PlayStation players who buy the $20 Battle Pass Bundle an additional five tier skips - that makes for a total of 25 tier skips.

Reminds me of the 360/PS3 era.

NEXUS-61279d ago

Ahhhh crossplay - the feature no one with a PS4 wanted. Nothing better than being in an MP game and seeing PC players move faster, aim faster, dodge quicker, the odd hacker.

Get rid of crossplay.

EmperorDalek1279d ago

@Nexus - Crossplay helps keep playerbases active. People weren't asking for it to work with PC, everyone knew that would be unbalanced. If a game does have issues with it, and you don't have any friends on other systems to play with, then you can disable it in pretty much every game I've seen.

You lose nothing with crossplay. Get over it.

NEXUS-61279d ago

Emperor - Never had a problem getting into MP games on PS4.

When you disable it, they penalise you with slow ping lobbies.

The otherside pissed and moaned like a kid who dropped their ice-cream, now the people who made the right choice are paying for it - gtfo with that bs.

Friends on other systems haha, I shun the lepers mate - let's all hold hands and sing kumbyaya.

Pathetic.

SpineSaw1279d ago (Edited 1279d ago )

I turn the crossplay off and I hope that's a option for this game. As far as the player base on PC and Xbox being active that's not my problem. I have a Xbox One S but Ca!! If Duty is a Playstation game and that's where the biggest player base plays so that's where I play.

badz1491279d ago

@EmperorDalek

LOL you're really serious talking about "playerbases" about CoD?? like...are you serious? do you know how many still play the old CoD games even on last-gen consoles?

Where were this crying hypocretes when Xbox 360 had call of duty exclusieve partnership ?

Ausbo1279d ago

Those were 30 day map packs. Not extra XP and things that impact gameplay and year long exclusive modes. There’s your difference

seanpitt231280d ago (Edited 1280d ago )

Can’t believe people are going to actually buy this trash game, Activision will always make billions regardless of what quality they put out because they know people will buy it

BO CW is a game that was made in a pandemic

REDGUM1279d ago (Edited 1279d ago )

Both TLOU2 CYBERPUNK 2077 we're made during the pandemic too, I guess they are & will be trash too??? C'mon, just because you don't like a game doesn't mean it'll be trash, it just means you'll be playing a different game whilst others pay COD that's all.
Bashing a game just because you don't like it is vastly different from an unplayable game with major issues making it trash.
From what I played of the beta & alpha it ran pretty good, was stable and I had a fun time playing it.
Will it be the best game eva, no but far from trash.

1279d ago
seanpitt231279d ago

Your logic is way off TLOU and cyberpunk had an extra 4 to 5 year dev time and they was pushed back because of the pandemic multiple times... BO CW has 2 year dev time of nearly half that was through a pandemic with no delays, but mark my words when this game comes out it’s going to be a s*it show and people are going to complain because the game is going to be a massive disappointment.

Mr Logic1279d ago

Wow I had no idea a studio could make a AAA game in the span of ~8 months. Thank you so much for enlightening me with your wisdom.

gold_drake1279d ago

u say trash game, but its MAD fun when u play with ur mates.

also, TLOU was made in the pandemic, Cyberpunk too. so whats ur point? if u dont like it, dont buy it. criticism is good but trashing a game just because u dont like it is beyond stupid

boing11279d ago

I would say It's trash because it's made on old tech, pre-MW. For me Beta was an unpleasant experience because everything felt like old COD. Weapons, feedback, movement, etc. Different game IMO. MW and Warzone spoiled me so much that I gave up after 5min.

XxINFERNUSxX1279d ago

Series should just die already, year after year same shit new coat of paint. I gave up on COD after Advanced Warfare. Next...

amagulick1279d ago

A lot of people obviously enjoy it, otherwise they wouldn't sell so much. The game isn't for you, so play something else. Let the people who enjoy it play it.

Applejack1279d ago

Nah, he should continue commenting about a game he apparently gave up on and rain on other people’s parade. /s

Double_O_Revan1279d ago

Now that's not fair! Activision will whore themselves out to which ever console pays them the most! It just so happens that this time is Sony.

DiRtY1279d ago

Timed exclusive DLC is one thing, but giving gamers on one specific console a competitive advantage over other gamers on the other console and PC is something else.

That is just not okay.

And cross play is here to stay and it is beautiful! But Activision came up with the worst possible solution for it.

NEXUS-61279d ago

Crossplay stinks, especially in FPS MP games. And it is the only reason this is an issue.

SpineSaw1279d ago (Edited 1279d ago )

No on forces you to buy the lesser game. You can buy the better game on a PlayStation console. PlayStation is the best place to game every gamer should have a PlayStation.

Epicor1279d ago

Call me crazy but I don't understand what's the problem here. Extra weapon XP? So what? You can unlock cosmetics faster. Two extra loadouts? Does this really give any competitive edge? Sure if gives nice quality of life addition but hardly makes a difference between winning or losing. There are nevertheless multiple loadout slots for all players. And for competitive purpose only few loadouts are really needed. There is literally nothing unfair about these PlayStation related benefits. But of course I understand that people don't like any console exclusive in-game content. But not liking something doesn't mean it's unfair competitively.

Challengerscatpack1279d ago

The gameplay trailer looked awesome and I was excited to play it but this is ridiculous. I said FU to Bobby Kotick and activision on back in the 360/PS3 era. This would have been the first COD I bought in a long time, guess not. I’m not supporting this crap, they show once again all they care about is money first.

Another great month imo. The COD campaign on this one was great fun. I've never played Alan Wake, so a PS5 version of that is a perfect way to prepare for the next one...

taurul318d ago

You're in for a treat with Alan Wake. It still holds after so many years.
For me it's the best psychological thriller I've ever played that is not Silent Hill.
Alan Wake 2 is my most wished sequel of all time, waiting for it since 2010...

bloop318d ago (Edited 318d ago )

Sweet!! I never got around to playing it on the 360 but always wanted to. Looking forward to next month!!

Crows90318d ago

Agreed. You see I'm surprised that Microsoft hasn't bought remedy...of all the studios in their list....I'd assume remedy would be an obvious based on real actual relationships.

I liked Alan Wake and am super excited for Alan Wake 2. Hopefully turns out great ..I've actually liked ALL of their games including quantum break...except for the TV show part.

Christopher318d ago

I've never bought a CoD game, but now due to PS+, I 'rent' like 8 of them or so. I played one a few times with my nephews. Still not my cup of tea. But, it's interesting to see how many CoD games PS+ can throw at me.

LG_Fox_Brazil318d ago

Pretty damn good, I almost bought Alan Wake last month, glad I held my wallet

REDGUM318d ago

I picked up my copy of it 2nd hand just last Saturday. agghhh. If only I had waited just a little more longer.

Knushwood Butt318d ago

Me too, it's been on my wishlist for months. Glad I held out!

Elda318d ago

A pass for me due to playing Cold War & Alan Wake already.

phoenixwing318d ago

Glad I didn't buy cold war or Alan wake. Now I can enjoy them for the stories

Kassanova07318d ago

I was curious about both. Great timing!
