TLOU 2 - Top Tier = xD
I'd like to formally introduce myself as Joe, Yeah I'm the guy that killed ya dad, please don't kill me in this situation.
#suspension of disbelief killed
+My opinion is my own, thanks. =)

Sherif1291303d ago

Aside from a few plot holes, what about the technical side? The combat? The motion capture? The animations? The graphics?

This is the best game this generation in terms of all of those.

Kaii1303d ago

You don't lose your sense of self, his character type In 2 doesn't match his overall character from 1.
You don't go from "precautious>zero awareness" that plot hole In killing 1 character wasn't something minor.

The game delivers from a visual/technical standpoint, and yeah, plotholes come and go In many shapes and sizes, but this wasn't the side quest story, the first game was built upon the relationship with Joel & Ellie. Joel basically wasn't Joel In the 2nd game, you don't just forget your survival instincts unless the writers from S8 GoT jumped aboard.

LucasRuinedChildhood1303d ago (Edited 1303d ago )

He hasn't even played the game so he wouldn't know.

"Watched Mutahar live on YT and It's basically more of the same from 2013".
"... they've not evolved the gameplay, you CANNOT say they've evolved the fucking gameplay, It's basically £55 Interactive movie."
"Won't say any more on this TLOU2 crap. Saved myself on this so I can get Ghost of Tsushima Instead, ./bows out =)"

Marquinho1302d ago

No way TLOU2 is GOTG... It's very clear that it's between The Witcher 3 and God of War. I'd say, God of War win as the best pound by pound game, and the Witcher as the overall 100+ hour experience.

Bloodborne
Splatoon
God of War
Driveclub
Days Gone
Blood and Truth
Tsushima
Xenoblade X

This is some of the best I played this gen

S2Killinit1302d ago (Edited 1302d ago )

So this guy Kaii is here to tell us the game is crap... and he hasnt even played it!.... ok thats some disingenuous bs man.

What I saw, personally, was a game with top notch everything, yes, the story, character buildup, setting, everything. The story was admittedly more mature than some would like considering games are bought by people of all ages. The story of this game took story telling to a new height in gaming. Im sure there are others like it but this was unique. When I finished, i thought to myself that ND deserved praise for sticking to the story that THEY wanted to tell KNOWING that some individuals would be left behind for being too young or otherwise not mature enough intellectually to enjoy it. ND simply trusted that the majority of the fan base has grown since they played the original and delivered a game that was aimed at them. Personally, I give them kudos.

Carrying on from your "Joel isn't the same character" perspective... he's not you are right.

However 4 years have passed and he and Ellie have both been living in Jackson relatively peacefully. Joel was the way he was in the first game because he was used to living rough, no community and everyone was out to get every one else.

He let his guard down too much.

RememberThe3571302d ago

Nuance is not apart of their thought process. They're justifying a preconception. I'm not even a big fan of TLOU2, my gripe is about the level design more than anything. But from jump they tried to make it about some trans thing, then it turned out Abby wasn't trans so they started going off about Joel, now it's just about how the game didn't connect on the same level as the last game or some other amorphous bullshit mixed with trolling.

@LucasRuinedChildhood
So I'm wrong?
I didn't say the game wasn't visually impressive, I mentioned 1 key plothole and you bring up something I said In the past, how the fudge is that relevant, I assume I have to now play through a depressive simulator for hrs to form an opinion?

Was Joel depressed or on medication before he was speaking to that group? do I need more or less context? TLOU 1 In 2013 had Heart, TLOU 2 was made and I'll C/P a comment I think describes it best by a Japanese reviewer, "it’s a story about right and wrong, written by people who think they’re always right"

That's all I say In regards to this topic, ./bows out

LucasRuinedChildhood1303d ago (Edited 1303d ago )

"you bring up something I said In the past, how the fudge is that relevant ..." Because the thing you said is that you didn't even play the game. That's extremely relevant.

"I assume I have to now play through a depressive simulator for hrs to form an opinion?" Pretty much. You actually have to play a game to experience it, especially if you're going to mockingly challenge the opinion of someone who did actually play it.

If I assert that Breath Of The Wild is mediocre and overrated, and dismiss it as an annoying "Weapon Degradation Simulator" (so I know a common complaint) when I haven't even played the game, then my opinion isn't worth very much. I can appreciate certain aspects of the game and take note of some flaws from looking at some gameplay but I've never truly experienced it.

Btw, you've already said that you would stop talking about TLOU2 so I doubt that this is all you're going to say "in regards to this topic."

Kaii1302d ago

I don't need to experience gameplay when my issue with TLOU 2 was a plot hole, you dumpster dive into 106 Days worth of previous comments to gain what?
>"you've already said that you would stop talking about TLOU2 so I doubt that this is all you're going to say "in regards to this topic"
What I said 100+ Days ago "Won't say any more on this TLOU2 crap. Saved myself on this so I can get Ghost of Tsushima Instead, ./bows out =)"

We're now into the future and I'm banned from GoTy topics? :O I'm critical on what some could call the most critical point In the game, some could say the most diverse point In the game, you don't even attempt the discussion on my talking points, you didn't have to dumpster dive on my previous feelings on this game, I made them known In the very 1st comment in this post, Joels Introduction to his would-be killers, but SOMEHOW I needed to play the game to that point to fully understand the situation, no? He had a pro-derp moment, he suddenly in this apocalyptic world forgot that humans aren't that nice

Also BOTW - Is weapon degradation gameplay or story? Gameplay
TLOU 2 - Is a cutscene story or gameplay-related? Story
" when I haven't even played the game, then my opinion isn't worth very much"
Exactly, Opinions =D Somehow my Story related issue with this game brought you out, but ofc as someone who played the first game I obviously have no right or justification in how characters are portrayed In the future. I do so humbly apologize, I will leave now. Thanks =)

RememberThe3571302d ago

So your basically saying what everyone else is saying: you're opinion is shit.

What's left to argue about?

Also, since when did plot holes stop people from playing games?

1303d ago
WillyC0091302d ago

This Kaii guy sure is clueless. Doesn’t know how to formulate a coherent argument. Never actually played the game & speaks on it like he’s an expert. Continues to say that’s all he’s going to say on the matter, yet continues to talk nonsense....

Yeah.....enjoy spouting off on your opinion like you somehow think it’s fact. Game of the generation IMO is between Last of Us 2, Witcher 3 & God of War.

zumlauf141302d ago

You must not of played the first game. You act as if joel was a compkete loner with a lack of trust in virtually everyone. Joel LITERALLY trusted Sam & Henry within 2 minutes of their first interaction..right after joel said "i was trying to kill you" after henry grabbed him. That was durring joel's PEAK paranoia and distrust of other humans as he was willing to do anything to save ellie( i.e kill an entire "militia" and screw over humanity). He also trusted Bill who WAS exacrly that- a paranoid loner. Yet, you say he was a completely different character? That's bs. you clearly never played the game. joel has been comfortable for 4 years. He and tommy were both in charge of taking in/recruiting other survivors outside of jackson which is referenced multiple times in checkpoint logs and conversations between joel + tommy. It makes sense for joel to naturally want to help abby while she was in distress..she was a young girl who looked terrified, alone. Joel could have easily seen ellie in her and the natural instinct was to help which is what he was ALREADY IN CHARGE OF - RECRUITING SURVIVORS. shocker. Don't get me started on the name bs. Abby was in shock and tommy gave them their names to calm her down to snap out of it so they could escape. You act as if no great plot has conveniences lmao.

Kaii1302d ago

Can I respect the fact that your the 2nd person to actually acknowledge and critique my point, ty.
That's all that had to happen In this thread, but ya can't have nice things >.>

Gameseeker_Frampt1302d ago

@Kaii

If Joel was this amazing survivor that great instincts, why during the first game did he choose to drive through the Pittsburgh QZ where it was guaranteed that he would be ambushed by the survivors living in the city? Common sense would tell everyone not to go into the cities in a post-apocalyptic world. Hell, even now everyone knows it is quicker to go around a city than through it and all we have to deal with is traffic.

LucasRuinedChildhood1302d ago (Edited 1302d ago )

I'd just like to point out that someone's used bots again and spammed any remotely positive comment about TLOU2 with dislikes and vice versa. The ratio of likes and dislikes is completely different now, yet there hasn't been a big rise in traffic. I've spotted this happening multiple times on N4G now.

You can see as you go further down through the replies to your comment that he/she forgot to click "Show More Replies" to spam the remaining comments. There's a lot comments marked as Spam because someone made a new account and ... spammed awful comments about Naughty Dog. Losers.

Breath of the wild is a bad game, but yeah the rest of those are spot on

VerminSC1302d ago

Breath of the wild is the only open world game I have ever truly enjoyed.

King_Noctis1302d ago (Edited 1302d ago )

A bad game that resulted in multiple clones/inspired games such as Oceanhorn 2, Yonder: The Cloud Catcher, Decay of Logos, Windbound, Immortal Fenyx Rising, and the recently released Genshin Impact.

Not bad for a “bad” game.

Ausbo1302d ago

Awful weapon degradation and combat. Empty open world. Lackluster “dungeons” . Nonexistent story.

Best thing about the game? The climbing system I guess, and that was even annoying because it always seemed to rain while doing so and I would slide all the way down the mountain constantly.

Most disappointing game I’ve ever played due to the praise it received.

Mario odyssey was a much better game.

LucasRuinedChildhood1303d ago

Top Tier:
- The Last of Us Part II
- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
- Red Dead Redemption II
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- God of War

I think their list is very fair, tbh. Sure, there are games that were very good and fun this gen like Spider-Man but these are the most important games from the gen, at least from a single-player perspective.

WGAF1302d ago

Oh look at Game the year list, let make an article about it.

Seems pretty easy to write something nowadays. Interesting...

Concertoine1302d ago

I just dont see TLOU 2 as an -important- game, i dont see what queues and inspirations will be carried from that game to the next gen. The first game definitely had that impact, but the sequel doesnt. Its funny, i feel like the only person who just thinks TLOU 2 is a good game, but nothing more or less.

I would agree with the rest of your list, but add Prey!!

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave22d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan22d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.

King of Fighters 94

Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.

Name Last Name46d ago

I mean some sequels are objectively better and you don’t need to play the whole series.

Inverno46d ago

But most of these games have a story to follow, sure you can catch up with a YouTube vid but where's the fun in that?

LucasRuinedChildhood46d ago (Edited 46d ago )

A list like this isn't telling you not to play the previous games if you want to. It's just giving you legendary games to play.

But tbh, you don't always have to force yourself to play every entry in a franchise to get to the better ones.

- The vast majority of Witcher 3 players never played the first 2 and had a great time. The first 2 games aren't in the same league.
- The GTA games are self-contained with the odd fun reference. You can easily jump into any of them.
- The Shadow Of The Colossus remake looks and controls better than the original (plus it has a 60fps option while the remaster is just 30fps). New players will enjoy it more.
- Portal 2 is a lot better than Portal 1 and takes the concept much further gameplay-wise. Storywise, Portal 1 is fairly light too. Not that you shouldn't play it but realistically ... you'd love Portal 2 whether you play it or not (at lot of Portal 2 players have never played 1).

Bioshock 1 is the only one I agree with you on simply because it's one the best games of all time and arguably better than Infinite. No other setting like Rapture.

Looking at the list, I'd recommend playing Uncharted 1 before 2 but no doubt, 2 is the legendary one you have to play.

Inverno46d ago

I get it, but that's just my opinion on his opinion. I just think that before you play a sequel you should still play what came before it. Maybe it's just me but i find it fascinating playing through the first game in a series and seeing how it has evolved through its sequels. Like I said I don't disagree with the list, other than SoTC which I strongly believe the remaster of the original should be played above the remake.

AuraAbjure46d ago

Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.
