Star Wars: Squadrons Single-Player Review - IGN

Star Wars: Squadrons’ campaign is entertaining and its flight controls hit a sweet spot between accessibility and nuance.

With this being cross platform, I'm so excited to play this in PSVR! Looks a load of fun and the player base will be huge.

My flight stick is ready!

Game seems more like a space sim which is really cool. Power diversion is a creative element to the combat.

Looking forward to playing this in PSVR.

It's amazing in VR. One of the best VR games I've played

specialguest1326d ago (Edited 1326d ago )

This type of game is what VR does so well with. You simply can't get the same kind of experience on a monitor. When you do a flyby passing another spacecraft, it's just cool how you could literally look up and see it pass you

Don’t trust ign reviews to save my life , but I like flying games and space games so might give it a shot . Especially for the VR mode . iGN usually only give all the brave and artsy shit a good review .

Abnor_Mal1326d ago

I found the free form flying of End Space to be great not knowing which way is up. I should see if that gane has flight stick compatibility.

If the flying in Star Wars Squadron is anything like that then I will have fun space dog fighting even though I know nothing really about Star Wars.

PSVR has recently been having an influx of good games and hope it continues on PS4/5.

Also enjoyed that Call of Duty VR demo thing that was given out a few years ago, but never made into a full game.

Yeah. It looks good. I still hate EA. But they did good. Have to figure out how to get it. Used is my first choice because it's them. But if I buy it, then maybe they'll put more high quality games in VR. Decisions. Decisions.

PSVR is on a roll though.

Abnor_Mal1326d ago

I agree with your buying habits, but sometimes we may have to bite the bullet and buy from publishers weren't not to fond of. I found myself in the same pickle awhile ago with Inxile's A Mages Tale, but to help establish and grow VR we make strange bedfellows.

Game is totally broken on PC as of now...some weird shit with the game hardlocking the game to 60 fps even though you are running 144fps +. Makes the game really janky and weird to play. I hope there's a patch incoming asap, because the game itself is pretty damn amazing!!

xTonyMontana1326d ago

If you got it on Origin, they default lock the FPS, can change it in settings.

Limitedtimestruggle1326d ago

Opted for the steam version this time around, changing the fps in-game does not help. One solution is to cap it to 60fps though...so it's really broken! I picked up the PS4 Pro version for cheap today and it plays and controls a lot better. I will wait until they patch up and fix the framerate hardlock in the PC version!

giveyerheadawobble1326d ago

A game running in 60fps and still perfectly playable is "totally broken" to you?

Limitedtimestruggle1325d ago

The workaround is to set the game to 60fps in-game, then use rivatuner to cap the fps limit to 60fps as well...at least in my case. It's fully playable now, but it's pretty sad to be rocking 60fps when you are supposed to be hitting 144 and beyond.

The game is nothing but AMZING though! I really think they nailed this game, except for the quirks on PC that is!

That said, the game seem pretty damn optimized as well! I'm using my GTX 980TI card while I''m waiting for the RTX 3080 to arrive..but the game is no match for the 980TI. In 60fps gimped mode I can at least use 200% resolution scaling and having everything on Ultra!

Mithan1326d ago

I wonder how it controls with a mouse/keyboard...

SullysCigar1325d ago

Not very well by all accounts. Most people are recommending using a controller or best with a flight stick / HOTAS.

Mithan1325d ago

ok thanks. I don't have a HOTAS system or even a joystick anymore. Gamepad ... I sort of suck with for these games where good aim is necessary, I always found a joystick (HOTAS) was more accurate than your thumb on a gamepad. Maybe I will consider it on the PS5 in the future.

Thanks bud.
