This is how you do it right.

potatoseal1332d ago

Yes that's true. This is a much better way of doing it than Sony's way lol. I would have thought that was obvious. Sony dropped the ball on pre-orders big time. But what's done is done. Sony should probably apologize the next chance they get though. They need to up their communication a little bit more. Not as much as Phil, but you know what I mean.

Double_O_Revan1332d ago

Sony announced the date for pre-orders shortly after their show. It was the retailers, specifically Walmart I believe, that posted the pre-orders anyway that night. And all the rest of them followed in a panic. So the only thing Sony could've done better on their end was announce a hard time during the date they stated. But they had no control over the retailers going awol and posting them early without warning.

Sunny_D1332d ago

@Agent

Giving less than a day notice is hardly announcing a date for preorders. Many people may have not even had a chance to watch the showcase to find out the preorder date. Retailers probably would have held off from releasing preorders early if they atleast told it would be a week from the event.

I have yet to hear Xbox preorders going up on retailer websites when MS said they would be on the 22nd. This is on Sony.

crazyCoconuts1332d ago

For once I agree with you. Yesterday was a cluster

darthv721332d ago

Im going to try my hand at getting the S from amazon and the X from best buy. That all access is too tempting to pass up.

Atticus_finch1332d ago

It's the same retailers though, good luck.

r2oB1332d ago (Edited 1332d ago )

This is how you do it right if you want to give scalpers ample notice to set up their bots to the exact time and sites to horde a huge chunk of the preorders. When you have an item that is in high demand and limited stock, one way to combat scalpers is to give a short notice. It sucks that some people missed the pre order window, but that’s mainly due to retailers randomly opening pre orders prematurely, instead of waiting for the 17th as Sony stated. I bet this tactic mitigated a lot of reseller consoles, meaning most people who were able to pre order are gamers looking to actually play the console. Perhaps some people were able to secure a few, but I bet there weren’t any bots snatching up the preorders by the dozens. If Sony gave a weeks notice, people would still be complaining they didn’t get to pre order, the only difference would have been it was due to bot scalpers and you would see exponentially more consoles on eBay.

EDIT: I’m not knocking Microsoft’s approach BTW, I think giving ample notice will work out well for them. I just think the PS5 has a higher demand and is more prone to bot scalpers, and I’d like to think there are a bunch of scalpers out there pissed they weren’t able to buy a bunch of consoles.

But, the right way does not gualantee leading to success
Sony knows that.

NeoGamer2321332d ago

They still need to share accessory pricing. Specifically the storage cards.

blacktiger1331d ago

if it's not popular then it won't matter otherwise get ready for scalpers!

Walmart cant go all Leeroy Jenkins this time around

The Wood1332d ago

LMAO......so forgot about that. thanking you

Deathdeliverer1332d ago

Don’t know how Walmart jumping the gun and everyone else being followers instead of leaders is on Sony. Could they have given god knows how much time, yes. But if Walmart would have played ball it would have went fine. I think a lot of the upset people didn’t get one. I got mine from amazon, and screw Walmart. I don’t shop there for anything for a reason.

NeoGamer2321332d ago

Nobody knows whether Sony clearly communicated that pre-orders were supposed to start at a certain time.

But, this is a much better approach. Nothing in the Blog press release seemed to point to specific times, so to me, it appears to be on Sony. At the very least their blog post was confusing and ambiguous with their show case.

There won't be no more acquiring game publishers from Microsoft in the future . Xbox has to pay Microsoft back. It might take two decades to do that.

sagapo17h ago(Edited 17h ago)

I don’t understand what you’re saying. Xbox IS microsoft so there’s no “paying back “.
And MS gross profit in 2023 was over 140 billion dollars so forget your 2 decades.

Unless you mean the money MS invested in Xbox (acquisitions included) and the time it will take for xbox as a brand to gain that money back on it’s own, then yeah, that could take a while.

romulus2310h ago

The better term to use might be return on investment, xbox is simply a division of Microsoft one that MS can easily do away with if profit margins are not met. So in that regard he's right, if xbox isn't showing the expected return on investment the higher ups are expecting than it's unlikely Microsoft will acquire any other studios any time soon, especially if they are spending billions buying developers just to shut them down in the end.

MrBaskerville3h ago(Edited 3h ago)

Xbox is a division that they discussed shutting down but doubled down on after Gamepass was pitched.

It needs to make money at some point. Big money.

rokos1h ago

According to Statista the net income of Microsoft is about $72.4 billion dollars which is a bit lower than last year profit. That is almost as much as Activision's acquisition but I assume that would be a one off since it costs so much plus I see how their focus has been shifted to AI, thus any major future investments will probably be in that area.

Xbox isn’t a separate company from Microsoft. It’s all Microsoft.

There really needs to be a class action lawsuit here. You buy these companies just to put people out of jobs. And it’s not like something happened to derail their plans this WAS the plan. Microsoft has no business in this space at all.

franwex19h ago(Edited 19h ago)

Microsoft has been doing this for years. They simply want the IPs. Look at Nokia. Look at Skype. This time it simply expanded to games. Gaming is not as important to Microsoft’s executives as it was to the founders too. Bill Gates was willing to sell the og Xbox at a loss. Steve Balmer approved the red ring of death fiasco. This CEO isn’t really a gamer.

-Foxtrot18h ago

Maybe it's time though to put a stop to it and use a big giant like Microsoft as a huge example to the rest of these big companies.

There has to be a line drawn somewhere.

People like the FTC and the like went against Microsoft yet their Actvision deal was still allowed to go through yet look what's happened...it's not even Acitivisions studios aswell, it's Bethesdas.

RNTody19h ago

Ninja Theory, Perfect Dark, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Wolfenstein 3, Dishonored, Prey, Doom, Quake... something tells me that bad things are going to happen to these entities under Microsoft.

MrDead8h ago

ID software, the makers of Doom and Wolfenstein that have been with us since 1991 could be gone and MS will keep the IPs.

I hope some of these studios can buy their freedom from MS otherwise this is going to be even more devastating for the industry and gamers.

Yui_Suzumiya6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

That's exactly what I'm worried about. I've been a fan of id since Wolfenstein 3D and I'm honestly afraid.

lodossrage2h ago

Toys for Bob saw the writing on the wall and bought themselves out.

Wouldn't be the first time a company did that under MS either. Bungie and Twisted Pixel did the same. Considering what just happened, I can see some other devs trying to buy themselves out too.

anast18h ago

Good thing the bosses of all those small studios made their money.

glenn197918h ago

they cant do it right now they will get burned

lodossrage2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

Won't make a difference.

The whole structure needs to be overhauled. Anyone that replaces Phil will be no different than him, Mattrick, or anyone else.

Until the company changes how they go about business, nothing will change

lodossrage2h ago

True,

But they may as well get it over with. Whether it happens now or later, the burning is going to hit the same.

Reality is the ONE move that can alleviate a lot of this is the one move they can't make. Remove day 1 from gamepass.
