Xbox Series X - HotChips 2020: The conquest of optimization at its peak

Long planned, Microsoft's speech at its HotChips conference was rich in information. Confirmations of what we already knew, details and other adjustments to the technological choices made by Microsoft abound on the 29 slides that result.

For us, the opportunity to go back to the bowels of the Xbox Series X , trying, with our knowledge, to explain to you the phenomenal tour de force that is playing out here. If the work on the Xbox One X and its “Scorpio Engine” chip impressed us in 2017, that of the Series X “Scarlett” chip literally blows us away and takes us to another galaxy where hardware optimization is omnipresent .

What is quite hilarious is scrolling down that article I noticed 4 pictures of the PS5 I had to recount and indeed there is only two of the Xbox and 4 the PlayStation.

Is this a Microsoft article ? (It clearly is) they are doing a great job advertising Sony's console .

Donnie811344d ago

Read the article and they are definitely not advertising the ps5. About every paragraph is pointing out advantages the series x has over the ps5. They mention it very frequently.

Noxen
Xbox has plenty of great looking games coming and if a new gpu makes the Xbox useless imagine what it will do to the much weaker ps5. With all of Sony’s games coming to pc and the Xbox having the more powerful model and the cheapest model there is zero reason to buy a ps5

Xbox news is so slow that we're still talking about hotchips

paulomoreira1343d ago

Only thing I dislike about Xbox . Is you can’t play your game at all if there is an update . Even offline I hate it . PS4 I can still play the game at least single player portion . But Xbox Na not at all. Have too wait until that shit updates before I can even play something I’ve payed for . This shit needs too stop next gen ! . I bought an offline game . But I could not play it 3 days later at all , because it was downloading a stupid update . If Microsoft carry’s this shit forwards im out day one . Even Sony lets you play the game without online while it’s downloding

ConsoleAgnostic1344d ago

In the updated OS they said you can select what portions you wish to download...maybe this will help with this.

Gaming4Life19811344d ago

I recently bought modern warfare on ps4 and i couldnt play it until days later because it kept having to update so it happens on all systems. I agree with the point your making and I hope we can play the games while they are updating next gen.

Gamerking821341d ago

You must be from the us . As here in the U.K. we turn our consoles off when sleeping so it’s not a fire hazard . But I know what you mean . But PS4 still lets you play everything that is installed (bar online ) even when it’s updating .

Gamerking821341d ago (Edited 1341d ago )

No any even single player game . If there is a update for that game u can’t access that game at all ! Until that bastard update . If this is nest gen it can do one !. You yanks must even sleep with stupid candles around your beds too . You crazy Bas@£&ds

Would It Have Even Mattered If Redfall Were Good?

Even if Redfall were a good game, the closure of Hi-Fi Rush proves even that doesn't matter in the industry.

Yeah it would have mattered especially since their huge game that year wasn't all that it was cracked up to be remember redfail was almost heavily promoted and hyped not to the level of starfield but still more promoted than the average game.

There was still a decent marketing campaign behind the game I'm sure millions were spent advertising it on websites and I saw a few billboards and bus stop signs in real life

jwillj2k410h ago

No it wouldn’t matter it wouldn’t bring in enough profit to offset their 100 billion dollar acquisition. It would maybe delay the inevitable by some months.

Pretty much no game in Bethesda stables makes cod numbers instantly even fallout 4 Bethesda's best selling game sold 12 million at launch and over the next 10 years climbed to over 32 which cod would do rapidly

CrimsonWing6910h ago

I would f*cking think so. Good games are what draws people to your platform. It’s why I adored the 360 era with Gears of War being one of the highlights for me. You make sh*t games and it just makes your platform that much worse and you start gobbling up studios I like and then killing them off it also makes me hate your platform as well… just sayin’

franwex10h ago

Unless the game would’ve been War Zone, or Fortnite level. No. Maybe even Hell divers 2 I doubt would’ve been enough.

Exvalos9h ago

No it would not have, the ABK deal was great for Microsoft but horrible for Xbox. Over 100 billion dollars in acquisitions. That money has to be made back. That ABK deal essentially destroyed Xbox as we know it.
