Erik Brudvig and Hilary Goldstein of the IGN Xbox 360 staff published an article that lambastes the quality of Square-Enix's work as a developer of RPGs.
Both Erik and Hilary make themselves victim to the one of the core reasons why JRPGs have suddenly lost so much appeal in the West. The editors at MonsterVine couldn't seem to contain themselves and have consequently chosen to publish a rebuttal against such a carelessly ignorant article.
Many overlooked RPGs lie dormant in the catalogues of gaming, but players can pick up their swords and shields with these amazing JRPG hidden gems!
The gaming community lately makes jokes about companies making games that look like "PS3" or "PS2" games. While this is such a nasty dig, there may be some truth to this in the case of tri-Ace.
Sad really. I used to love these guys but man...they just aren't what they used to be.
The Cod games have been using an engine built in the mid 90s. Nothing wrong with using an old engine if they update it. Bioshock used UE2 and looked better than most UE3 games. Arkham knight used UE3 and looked better than most UE4 games.
Sh it does suck but I enjoyed star ocean 6 the most out of any game last year. I thought it was solid af start to finish. My favorite game that year.
I'd love for Sony to get ahold of them.
Game Rant - "From Star Ocean to Final Fantasy, there have been a number of JRPG's that have been unfairly undervalued by their Metascores. Here are 10 examples."
While I agree that the combat in Star Ocean 5's combat is pretty fun, saying that its story is more enjoyable than its predecessors is highly debatable. Also, it's not just the technical issues the game suffers from.
Completely disagree the games I played from the list all deserve their scores (Star Ocean, Nier, Tales of Zesteria, Type-0). While there are certainly people that love these games, they have flaws in many categories, that justify those scores.
Star Ocean especially bored the hell out of me. Lame story and face roll battle system (I finished the game anyway). These games are really niche and when rated by a broader public, fall short. In my opinion even in their own genre.
Both articles have their points, but if the games SE have released on the 360 are any indication of the way they are headed than the 360 can keep The Last Remnant. The review scores have been pretty telling as have the sales of both UI and TLR, hopefully the time left until the PS3 version of TLR releases they will significantly improve what seems to be a very flawed game, one that I was very excited about.
It will be very interesting to see what happens with Star Ocean as well. Despite the fact the game is slated as a timed exclusive for the 360 as well, if it doesn't rock as hard as the previous entries then they clearly DO NOT have the best time working with the system. If they can't work the UE3 on the 360 there is no way they can work it properly on the PS3. Thank god Final Fnatasy is going to be finished on the PS3 first and built using SE's own tools. Anyway, I wouldn't expect SO4 to stay on the 360 exclusively for more than 6 months, should be on the PS3 in time for Christmas.
Way to go SE, your Westward expansion is taking off really well, lol!
stop crying square enix thinks that they can make a game using the unreal engine and release it on the 360 and western gamers are gonna eat it up what they need to do is make a good game with a good story and stop trying to "appeal" to us when they already have our attention.
