New Tomb Raider Sales Lead on PlayStation 3

Sales of Eidos' Tomb Raider: Underworld are strongest on the PlayStation 3, with 51 per cent of all units sold in its first week of release on Sony's home console.

The Xbox 360 accounted for 34 per cent of sales, with the remaining sales made up of Wii, PC and DS SKUs.

Oh my.That is rather interesting

pp_5637d ago

It certainly is. Looks like the majority of people are realising that PS3 is the best. 360 fails.

Eiffel5637d ago (Edited 5637d ago )

If I do recall Bad Company sold three times as much on the 360 than the PS3. As do most of all FPS, and shooters in general.

Just so happens Tomb Raider is the closet thing PS3 users are getting closer to a Uncharted sequal.

I however just don't find intrest in this game period.

shadowghost7525637d ago

Eiffel u fail there is an Uncharted sequel coming

http://www.computerandvideo...

Eiffel5637d ago

No sh1T moron, I already knew that.

The point of my post was that Tomb Raider was just fresh meat for people awaiting the Uncharted sequel.

Congrats on Owning yourself.

GiantEnemyCrab5636d ago

According to who? This site lists no sources for the info at all.

This is also from the UK. I will just wait till NPD and some actual real sources of info come out to serve that plate of crow.

Wow, that's extremely surprising! Is this this world-wide or just America? If it's just America I'm even more shocked with the PS3's considerably lower install base. I guess exclusive DLC may not be that big of a draw afterall.

mesh15637d ago

why would any 1 buy tomb on the 360 when we have left for dead.gears 2, that are actuallly aaa games

SL1M DADDY5637d ago

Cutting game content to use in later DLC is pathetic and since great developers like Naughty Dog didn't do this with Uncharted, Eidos will not be getting my money despite the fact that I own both systems and could buy it on the 360. Low balling like they do to the gaming community by backing MS's cheap shots at DLC exclusivity makes me an unhappy camper and I just cannot support it when there are other greater games on the market. I will just play through Uncharted again if I want my cave scampering fix met.

Genesis55637d ago

Regardless of what the 360 fans have to say about this, the people paying the bills at MS can't be happy to hear this. Just keep throwing the cash away MS.

Information Minister5637d ago

The problem with the TR DLC is the same that GTA4's DLC faces: it's not free. The fact that you picked the 360 version over the PS3 doesn't automatically guarantee you the DLC. You already shelved out 60$ for the game and you still have to pay an extra 10$ for the DLC. Most people aren't willing to do so.

Anyway, I just can't wait for the comparison videos stating how superior the 360 version is (/sarcasm).

Mr_Bun5637d ago

Was it worth your only bubble to post such a moronic comment? I guess I will have to wait for you to log into one of your other accounts to reply

AAACE55637d ago

I thought the Ps3 fanboys were saying they didn't care about Tomb Raider anymore because Uncharted was better? Yet they come back with negative comments... pretty strange indeed! Could they secretly be saying they really did care?

Man_of_the_year5637d ago

Uh...he said AAA games...not average games with poor sales...so actually his list rapes yours...

ultimolu5637d ago (Edited 5637d ago )

Why would anyone buy those games if they have a different preference?

I'm still not fond of Tomb Raider but seeing 360 fans get on as if the DLC made a HUGE difference with the game and seeing Microsoft bragging about it truly cracks me up.

Blakzhuk5637d ago

Microsoft paid to have the extra levels added. They were not in the original game.

zypher5637d ago

even though i think Uncharted trounces Tomb Raider, i'm no PS3 fanboy. still, i do think it's rather funny how Microsoft basically paid Eidos to slap PS3 owners in the face, and now it's all come back to bite the both of them in the butt. i simply am not a fan of either of the big three throwing around cash to beat the competition, at least not the way Microsoft has done it. the money they paid for this and the GTA IV dlc could've easily went into funding one of their in-house studios. i'm sure Eidos and Rockstar would've made their dlc multiplatform, until Microsoft offered cash to make it exclusive.

Sarcasm5637d ago

"Anyway, I just can't wait for the comparison videos stating how superior the 360 version is (/sarcasm)."

There's already one showing the PS3 is the "superior" version. But nobody cares.

acedoh5637d ago

that for the most part consumers don't read reviews and don't have knowledge of extras on any one console. Tomb Raider started on the Playstation and I am sure most of the series fans are still with the Playstation... I am sure it's a decent game and I am also sure most fans of the series probably will be happy.

xwabbit5637d ago

Totally agree with you 100%

Doppy5637d ago

So what happens if the PS3 version completely outsells the 360 version, does the PS3 version get it's own DLC or will the 360 versions DLC be timed exclusive.

iamtehpwn5637d ago

It is possible this game sold more on Ps3 due to the series being a playstation classic.

Tarasque5637d ago

Naaaaa, it just means 360 owners are playing Gears2 and Fable2 and COD5. Don't have time for Lara, maybe a later date. Surprised it done so well on PS3 considering LBP is so awesome and people cant get enough of the innovation, rolls eyes.

cayal5637d ago

'Nah people are playing x, y game is the stupidest comeback I've ever read'

Fallen_Angel5636d ago (Edited 5636d ago )

Maybe 360 owner are just getting a lil smarter. DCL is normally added to the plat edition for free when the price drops down to 30 bucks. So why buy it now ?

btw acedoh TR didnt start on the ps1 it started on the sega saturn. Sony paid a huge amount of money to steal it and make it multiplat. I laugh everytime sony fanboys say sony doesnt pay for a exclusive or get pissed amount MS paying companies to make games for the 360 when sony is the one that started it all.

Nicolator5636d ago

Its totally understandable .. right now there are way too much games on 360 to be played we will get to tomb raider later on... i cant even find time for myself again

Legion5636d ago

Number fudging once again... can the fans not grasp at everything just to make a number sound impressive? World wide sales does not reflect the totals given here. Reported already that this is UK sales, not world sales. Sony for the loss.

sonarus5637d ago

Quite surprising. More interesting would the actual sales figures for the game. Oh well so much for ps3 owners don't buy games they only buy blu rays lolz

InMyOpinion5637d ago (Edited 5637d ago )

Tomb Raider: Underworld only beat the first week performance of last year's Tomb Raider: Anniversary by 6,700 units. Doesn't say what TR: Anniverasry sold...

I'd like to see total sales as well, the % numbers mean nothing without them.

sutton325637d ago

haha starting to regret the DLC deal now eidos?

cayal5637d ago

Why? If Microsoft paid them for the DLC exclusivity they couldn't care less.

Information Minister5637d ago

If anyone should regret the deal it's Microsoft.

smturner685637d ago

That does seem hard to believe. I got the 360 version. I just usually get, scratch that, always get multi-platform games on the 360. Most often they look/play better. I didn't do the research on this one though. It seemed pretty cool looking on the demo. As for DLC, hmmm. I don't usually get that kind of thing if it costs money, especially if I haven't gotten to the point in the game where it'd make any difference. I will probably download GTA4 content though. It looks pretty different than the rest of the game.
