Today Phantasy Star Online 2 has been announced for Steam, but the game's reach in the west is far from universal. Sega appears to want to broaden it.

What's funny is that the game will probably be more successful on PS when it eventually releases there.

Thing is, by the trailer, we're effectively getting PSO3. Its just that PSO2 has been around so long, become such an embedded title within its user base, that Sega's gotten too scared to take the logical step of naming it PSO3.

Almost as funny is that MS went to the trouble of securing PSO2 as a limited exclusive, in what should have been a move to get people to buy their console, but now it just means they'll have it for a few months before "PSO3" comes out.

Sega would have easily ported it a long time ago if they wanted to but they clearly had no confidence in the product until someone wanted to pay for it. Now suddenly after seeing success from whales, they want to act like they always wanted to bring it everywhere.

This comment getting agrees is so hypocritical of N4G. If you replaced the words Phantasy Star Online 2 and Microsoft with the words Spiderman and Sony, you would get mass downvotes.

If it wasn't for Microsoft, this game would still be only available in Asia. If you have a problem with the game not being available on other platforms, then your complaints should be aimed at Sega, Sony and Nintendo, not Microsoft. Sony and Nintendo had 8 years to bring the game to their platforms.

Can't I just have Phantasy Star 5 or Skies of Arcadia 2? PSO is still a fun game. I still have ver 2 on Dreamcast. But i don't want it anymore. I want a story driven one. Or reboot, remake, remaster. Whatever. A real Phantasy Star.

Wow that's a straight lie. First they took AGES to even bring this game to the West. So many people were asking for it years ago. They did nothing. Tried to get it way later, by using an unofficial English patcher. If I recall correctly they stopped that not too long after. Now they've signed exclusive deals to Microsoft. Limiting the potential fanbase. Seriously, they have no right to say this.

After playing this for a while....I'd rather have a remake of PSO Episode 1 and 2. Much better gameplay. Customization is better in PSO2 obviously but that's honestly all.

So far you're off to a bad start, youve taken sides as a third-party developer, why you quit making hardware, remember? So, you need to get Switch and PS4 versions out pronto, were adults, we're not stupid, we know Microsoft bought you off, don't treat us like kids.

Bytheway, I want this game on a disc that has the option of 4-player couch co-op like the GameCube version that allows me to play the game, even after the servers shut down, it doesn't have to be free2play for me and I'll pay you $60. I fact, just port the game from the Vita card to a Blu-ray Disc and that's all you gotta do, and then the game lives on in infamy and doesn't become obsolete when the servers shut down like Loadout, Blacklight Retribution or, unfortunately, MAG, that game was so ahead of it's time it's not funny.
