Sega: "It Is Our Goal to Bring Phantasy Star Online 2 to as Many Players as We Can"

Today Phantasy Star Online 2 has been announced for Steam, but the game's reach in the west is far from universal. Sega appears to want to broaden it.

Then wheres the English sub of the Ps4 Japan version!

rainslacker1373d ago

I guess getting a pay check from MS was more important than bringing the game to as many people as possible as quickly as possible.

What's funny is that the game will probably be more successful on PS when it eventually releases there.

lonewolf101373d ago

More successful than xbox and PC combined?

Godmars2901373d ago

Pretty sure Western PSO2 fans have literally been begging for the game before even MS got their mits on it.

mkis0071373d ago

Why lump pc in with xbox in this case? It was already on pc and ps4 in japan. It will emphatically be more successful on ps4 than xbox in the west.

People waited this long. What’s another year?

Godmars2901373d ago

"People waited this long. What’s another year?"

Thing is, by the trailer, we're effectively getting PSO3. Its just that PSO2 has been around so long, become such an embedded title within its user base, that Sega's gotten too scared to take the logical step of naming it PSO3.

Almost as funny is that MS went to the trouble of securing PSO2 as a limited exclusive, in what should have been a move to get people to buy their console, but now it just means they'll have it for a few months before "PSO3" comes out.

lonewolf101373d ago

@mkis007

Why not when it is coming to PC as well as part of the agreement.

It Is Our Goal to Bring Phantasy Star Online 2 to as Many Players as We Can, but Microsoft isn't letting us.

Fixed.

It Is Our Goal to Bring Phantasy Star Online 2 to as Many Players as We Can, MS offered us money to help with the costs of bringing it stateside with timed exclusivity to Xbox and pc platforms.

Fixed

Sega would have easily ported it a long time ago if they wanted to but they clearly had no confidence in the product until someone wanted to pay for it. Now suddenly after seeing success from whales, they want to act like they always wanted to bring it everywhere.

SegaGamer1373d ago (Edited 1373d ago )

This comment getting agrees is so hypocritical of N4G. If you replaced the words Phantasy Star Online 2 and Microsoft with the words Spiderman and Sony, you would get mass downvotes.

If it wasn't for Microsoft, this game would still be only available in Asia. If you have a problem with the game not being available on other platforms, then your complaints should be aimed at Sega, Sony and Nintendo, not Microsoft. Sony and Nintendo had 8 years to bring the game to their platforms.

Hakuoro1373d ago

Would you prefer if we talk about how Microsoft is delaying the released of Yakuza like a Dragon on PS5?

ApocalypseShadow1373d ago

Can't I just have Phantasy Star 5 or Skies of Arcadia 2? PSO is still a fun game. I still have ver 2 on Dreamcast. But i don't want it anymore. I want a story driven one. Or reboot, remake, remaster. Whatever. A real Phantasy Star.

phoenixwing1373d ago (Edited 1373d ago )

skies of arcadia 2 would be appreciated or even a mmo or prequel anything from that universe in rpg format really

cartman3131372d ago

Wish they would remake Phantasy Star 1-4. 4 being my favorite of the series.

Nanas1373d ago

They have a Switch version that runs on cloud, theoretically it should be easy to get a cloud version could run on any platform.

WoW is a mess and it will continue to be a mess. Still, the less-developed MMOs are going to have trouble gaining a fan base because they lack content right now. Even if people do flock to FF14 or BDO, they'll go back to WoW if they fix enough features or give players a shred of hope.

Didn't know people still played this game

Jiub994d ago

Fewer people for certain but still a lot of people.

gleepot994d ago

Nah, I'll keep playing the game with the millions of other people. The writing on the wall says "game is not dead" even though people have claimed it is for 15 years.

Jiub994d ago

I'd guess that people are going to filter out but then come back for the next expac when the turmoil is over. I do worry about content delays, though.
