Amazon Customers Vote 2008 kicks off with $199 Sony PS3 Bundle

From the source: Amazon launched their Amazon Customers Vote deals for the holidays again. Like the last two years this promotion is one of the best ways to get really great, great deals. Last year deals you could vote for included a $79 Wii or a $139 PS3.
The first round of the Amazon Customers Vote 2008 features three PS3 bundles. There are two priced at $199 and one priced at $229. Each of the three PS3 bundles is available 500 times.

There are 4 blu-ray related items in the poll and zero Wii/360 items. It's nice that Amazon is advertising the PS3 as a blu-ray player too.

I got my eyes set on the 8.9 inch solid state laptop though.

This is why, eventually PS3 will take over. Once PS3 is this price (non bundle) it will be impossible to ignore. 360's could be 50 buck but people will still want a PS3.

what people are you referring to? because the "people" have been choosing the 360 for the past three years, and it's still ahead by 5 million + compared to the ps3.

The same cheap azzes that go out and buy a ps3 now, are the same chaep azzes that will buy a 360 when it's dirt cheap in a couple of years.

Thats not what I see. PS3 has been outselling XB every year its been out. God, how can people brag about a lead they only got from jumping the starters gun. 5 Million lead? I doubt it. Give us real numbers of working consoles M$. And even if it was, wasn't it allegedly 10M when PS3 launched?

I dont care how many consoles XB sold when it was competing against no one. As soon as people had a choice, XB sales went down, and PS3 sold more than it. That makes it more popular today, regardless of lifetime sales.

And the whole point of my post, which you decided to gloss over is that price is the only thing holding PS3 back. People keep talking about this $199 "sweetspot". Well when PS3 is there its gonna go throw the roof. Its doing well now at a high price, why wouldn't it do better at a cheap one? Who will care if XB is 50 or even $100 cheaper. Alot dont care now. And you said yourself, XB will be on its way out. Once M$ sees another generation they cant win, they'll drop it like a hot potato and try to rush the next one out. Who will buy an X360 with a cheap PS3 around and a new XB around the corner. No one. Its not a PS2 you know, it doesn't have 100's of great games, more like handfuls. It will run its course then move aside for the next gen, not even passing 50M.

That's the only thing I don't like about this deal as I am unable to vote and have already contacted my folks to tell them I would try my best to get them one. Even got hours all through thanksgiving weekend and even on thanksgiving to try and get and get the funds. I suppose I should have read more carefully before getting all hyped up. Sucks that you have to be "eligible" for this, they should have left it open opportunity so all the fans could crash the site again :).

Though I wonder if your able to buy it are people able to put some money down and keep it on hold? As getting paid bi-weekly sucks and leaves very little chance of having the money on that specific date.

Are you parents really going to play with a ps3? or just want a blu-ray player? because amazon has been having some great sales on blu-ray players bundled with great movies lately, and there are going to be a lot of blu-ray players out there for under 200 bucks on black friday.

Actually I don't more or less I'm saving up because I'm also going out of town on Christmas day and just want to have some cash on hand. Roughly I get paid about 10 an hour, and will get time and a half on thanksgiving as well as black Friday, already working those days anyway managers never listen. I was asking for more hours mainly because of the bi-weekly and trying to make it so that I get money at least every week so that way I'll have money even while I am out of town to at least that way I won't have to keep checking my account.

Plus this is the Christmas present, enjoying life doing that have several concert tickets sitting on my desk for local bands that are performing a few I went to the band member's houses' to listen to them play. Also enjoy my time when I go and walk around campus with friends while playing games in a little spot that a few other college students rented out. As for dating not in this small one horse town, either A. they don't know the difference between love and lust or B. They are already pregnant with a child or two, I think I'll wait till I go to another town.

I just told them about it and that it was a contest they understand and know and are just grateful that I am at least attempting to give them something for their HDTV they have in the basement. I saw the 99.00 Blu ray and my parents would be fine with that, If I don't get into any of those drawings then I'll just simply resort to it, the main reason I want to get them the PS3 is just all the things it can do, especially for that PSN store and being able to rent and buy movies. Since they are trying to save money and not try to go out all the time to rent movies I figured that would be perfect and helpful along with pirates bundled in (they love the movie) so that's primarily why I was looking to it.

Also trying to figure out the Blu-ray streaming music through sites or something (stuff like Imeem and such) As my mother wanted some classical CDs and figured I could hit another bird with the stone if the PS3 is able to do this. Again if not I'll just get a Blu-ray bundle with movies and perhaps the CDs and hit the 200 dollar limit then go about on my merry way.

That is a good deal. I wish we could get deals like that in Canada, but we don't really get good blu ray deals. The cheapest i can find a Panasonic bd35 for is $298.
