personally I think it’s too much. I prefer ppl didn’t see my electronics at all and go to lengths to conceal them in furniture shelves. I don’t even think it will fit in my media center Shelf so this is a bummer for me. The series x might be tall but I can turn it sideways and just raise the shelf, cuz it’s not wide or deep. And since it’s just black, it will recede into the shadow and ppl can enjoy the far more expensive and beautiful walnut wood around it.. just like my amplifier and Apple TV almost invisible. Speakers mounted in the walls.

I really thought the PS5 console design was going to be better than the XSX in classic Sony style, but the more I look at it the more it becomes less appealing to me. It looks awkward as hell when it sits horizontally. When it's vertical it only looks good at a slight angle, but that's unrealistic. It's also too damn tall. The XSX wins this one in the console design department

It's EASY.. 15.75 inches is EASY to take a measuring to your entertainment centers shelf space. Mine is 26 inches long! I can lay it down and have 5 inches left on each side of it. I'm good. I think everyone else will be also. Sony has already told you it is 15.75 inches long why the big surprise?

It's clearly larger than PS4 but nothing too crazy. I'd rather have a slightly larger console and ensure its reliable. On this front, Sony have a pretty impeccable record so lets just go with what we are given and not worry about it.

Only time will tell if Microsoft or Sony made the right choice. If one of them starts overheating or has reliability issues...the other will win by not being shot down (literally) in flames. I can ram the most powerful PC components into a small bespoke box but how the cooling works would be fundamental.
Let's see what the next gen battle looks like when it happens. Looking forward to both...

The console will not fit into my entertainment center. This is too much. I think I might be holding out on a slim version before upgrading from my PS4 Pro.

Another thing is for people that are planning to get the All digital version of the PS5 but still want to play PS4 games next gen that have a PS4/Pro and a bunch of disc games, it'll be hard to fit both consoles on the entertainment center.

They really want to avoid the pro's heating mistakes. My launch pro console's fans spin so hard at the cod MW menus and looking at the map in rdr online that it's seriously going to fly away along with my family who all complain when I play at night due to the sound keeping everyone up.

Funny my base ps4 launch model however never had a problem with noise or extreme fan speeds.

If it's a problem for you I'd hang out for the inevitable slim version in a few years.

Where did they claim it was whisper quiet? Noise will depend on the system not just size and cooling.

Size is proportionic to power, all next gen launch consoles have to be big to account for extra heat and reducing fail rate.

you can have a smaller system with more power, but its going to need faster spinning fans to get the heat out. faster spinning fans = more noise and less longevity. sony is addressing the noise complaints by making a large, quiet system. huge heat sinks and a big, slow fan is key. they designed it so nice looking because its probably meant to sit next to your entertainment system on the floor, or sideways on top of the entertainment system. hiding it in a shelf is going to cause heat problems for both of these new systems.

The problem with this flat style design is that the heatsink cannot be tall but instead has to be wider/flatter. Usually lower height pc coolers are not very good. I reckon XBX will be cooler due to the box design.

Lol at the downvotes. It's only a guess. Remember PS3? No crazy bad economy and no pandemic. Yet they had very little systems at launch. Most stores getting like 10 if they were lucky. There were 400K PS3's available for the North American launch. Many people don't have the money to blow on a PS5 right now and Sony knows it so they don't want to over produce them.

I personally think the ps5 design is completely ridiculous looking but itll be mine day 1 hopefully.
