Phantasy Star Online 2 launch marred by how shitty the Windows Store is

The eight-year wait for Phantasy Star Online 2's western launch is finally over—for some, that is. Others are stuck with errors or bugs that are preventing them from playing, many of which are due to PSO2's reliance on the absolutely awful Windows Store. It's getting in the way of what should otherwise be an exciting moment.

Wow

Xbox continues to shoot themselves in the foot going into the next gen.

SubtilizZer1445d ago

Crazy how I have a whole group of friends I play with not experiencing these issues. We're are all NA some have high-end pcs, mine is low end 4th gen Intel.... but I have no issues we're all from the states maybe its more region than anything.

I wish we would all stop trying to shame Microsoft when they do something good.

Outlawzz1445d ago

The Microsoft store is terrible, always has been. It doesn't have anything to do with the performance of the pc.

I deal with issues all the time when downloading games off of gamepass which unfortunately is linked to the store. Constant errors, having to uninstall and download again, and for some reason some insanely slow download speeds even with great connection.

SegaGamer1445d ago (Edited 1445d ago )

It's less of an Xbox problem and more of an Microsoft Store and Sega problem

The Microsoft store is straight up trash and Sega and Microsoft didn't anticipate such a massvie amount of pc players that were going play......even when they were warned about it. The game is free to play, and even if it is advertised as an NA release, it had no region lock so basically pc players from all over the world were trying to log in.

What does Windows store have anything to do with Xbox or next gen? Does Xbox SX use Windows store?

rainslacker1445d ago

It does. Same framework. Windows store issues on PC are more related to Windows itself, whereas those issues are not issues on Xbox because it's a closed system, and MS doesn't lock everything down for God knows what reason like they have on PC nowadays. Kind of ironic the closed system is actually more open to working.

King_Noctis1445d ago

“ It does. Same framework”

So do people complain about Xbox store as much as Windows store?

rainslacker1444d ago

No, not that I've seen. But I was just answering your 2nd question, and adding a bit of context on why it's different, which should have indirectly answered the first question, which is that Windows store doesn't have anything to do with Xbox or next gen.

rainslacker1445d ago (Edited 1445d ago )

I remember the first time I went to use the Windows store on my laptop. It became a requirement to get Visual Studio, then about a year later when I wanted to demo some language software.

I logged in well enough, just used my hotmail account. Then found what I wanted, added it to my cart, and pressed the confirm button. Then, couldn't get what I wanted, because some registry setting, or setting on Windows itself was preventing it.

For Visual Studio, I did go through and find out what the problem was, spent time to fix it, and after several hours of doing all that, finally just torrented a version and used my legally purchased key from years ago because none of the numerous "fixes" officially from MS worked, nor did any of the one's suggested by people on the internet, which leads me to believe that this issue was caused by more than one thing.

Then the same thing happened for the language software I wanted to test out. Except this time, I didn't bother trying to fix it.

If MS wants people to use their products, they can't make them annoying to use. I'm pretty tech savvy, and willing to go through the frustration if it's absolutely necessary, and even spent a good part of my adult life in IT working on fixes for computers and what not, but lets face it, most people aren't like that. Most people is where the majority of a market lies, and most people aren't going to go through all the effort to get some software before they just get frustrated and give up.

This got approved with that type of headline. Only on N4G.

King_Noctis1445d ago

This place love articles like this. Just look at the first comment.

smashman981445d ago

This was low-key the funniest comment I've read in my 10 years of being on n4g

rainslacker1445d ago

It'll probably be removed, or require a change when a mod gets to it. It doesn't take much to get an article approved around here. As little as two people can approve an opinion article if they have a high enough rank.

pwnmaster30001445d ago

People cry about censorship but complain about this title. It’s a word get over it.

Sayai jin1445d ago

Who are you referring to? When did O complain about censorship? You are having two seperate conversations in your head.

Read N4G's user agreement. This headline violates it.

TheHan1445d ago

Honestly I don’t experience any issues ether. Sounds like to me this, person is just talking out their ass.

SegaGamer1445d ago

Then maybe you should read the PSO2 Reddit page, official forums and Discord then, are you going to say they are all talking out of their ass too?

Multiple different errors when trying to install the game. People struggling to get it to launch and uninstall it. Not being able to get part the title screen, the game storing tons of backup data on people's hard drives, the game suddenly no longer launching and horrendous in game lag that makes the lobby unplayable (renaming files to bypass the launcher is a temporary fix for now)

Overpopulated servers is an issue too because they are taking too long to open up new ones. It won't make much difference anyway because Sega have created one of the most absurd payment schemes by forcing people to stick with one server for good unless they pay real money to move. Then when that server is full, you can no longer gain any access to your character at all, so you either wait or create another character on another server.

Just because you haven't experienced any issues, it doesn't mean that others haven't.

TheGamez1001445d ago

Took the time to download the game to get to a menu just to download the rest of the game, started it then it tried downloading again, started it again and then nothing popped up. Reset my pc amd tried to start it again and not even the menu popped up. Then uninstalled and started the whole damn process over again just to come to the same outcome. Just bring the game over to steam or something wth. No idea whats going on.

King_Noctis1445d ago

At this point I had given up and completely remove the game from my PC. Back to GTA Online for me.

WoW is a mess and it will continue to be a mess. Still, the less-developed MMOs are going to have trouble gaining a fan base because they lack content right now. Even if people do flock to FF14 or BDO, they'll go back to WoW if they fix enough features or give players a shred of hope.

Didn't know people still played this game

Jiub1006d ago

Fewer people for certain but still a lot of people.

gleepot1006d ago

Nah, I'll keep playing the game with the millions of other people. The writing on the wall says "game is not dead" even though people have claimed it is for 15 years.

Jiub1006d ago

I'd guess that people are going to filter out but then come back for the next expac when the turmoil is over. I do worry about content delays, though.
