Top 10 DLCs of All Time

Examples of DLCs that are NOT cynical cash-grabs are few and far between. These rare gems can significantly expand upon and improve the base game. GameLuster's Nirav Gandhi highlights the top ten DLCs of all time. Publishers take note - these are DLCs done right.

My favorite DLC list would be:

10) Dragon Age Origins: Awakening
9) Assassin's Creed IV: Freedom Cry
8) Destiny: The Taken King
7) Fallout 4: Far Harbor
6) Fallout New Vegas: Lonesome Road
5) The Elder Scrolls V: Dawnguard
4) The Elder Scrolls IV: The Shivering Isles
3) The Last of Us: Left Behind
2) Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare
1) The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine

Honorable) Mass Effect 3: Citadel, The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone, FarCry 3: Blood Dragon, Diablo III: Reaper of Souls
Also) Fallout 76: Wastelanders (Actually brings some sense to the game) (Should be a standalone offline title)

Where’s Big surf island from Burnout Paradise? And all the extras.
GTA4’s dlc was one of the best ever
Undead nightmare was brilliant My 3 favourites off top of my head great value and great content

toxic-inferno1429d ago

Big Surf Island hadn't even crossed my mind!

I know there are plenty of good examples of how to do good DLC (and that Burnout Paradise isn't the most popular in the series amongst fans), but I remember being blown away by the way that Criterion supported Burnout Paradise. The game grew so much since its original release.

RosweeSon1429d ago

Yeah majority for free as well the island would have been free from what I heard but EA wanted to charge luckily wasn’t too expensive and got time money’s worth. Really enjoyed that game and all the content. A Delorean is always gonna be a winner for me 😂✌🏻

RosweeSon1429d ago

Prey Dlc is currently £6.49 on PSN 59% off think I’ll grab that now haha.

ifrit_caress1429d ago

Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 DLC was great, Horizon: Zero Dawn's Frozen Wilds DLC was good.

RosweeSon1429d ago

I’ve not got round to the frozen wilds yet I need to soon really enjoyed the base game

MoonConquistador1429d ago

An excellent addition to the game, well worth it.

Tacoboto1429d ago

Not even an honorable mention for Frozen Wilds, shame. Damn that expansion felt and even looked better (artistically - those hot springs!) than the base game.

toxic-inferno1429d ago

Yes, the Old Hunters was fantastic - incredible how much they managed to expand the lore of the game, while creating a short, yet incredibly rich, genuine Bloodborne experience. In a way, it's a shame it didn't receive more DLC, but to have such a successful game and follow-up DLC is so rare that we probably shouldn't complain!

pwnmaster30001429d ago

With the amount of fans bloodborne has, I am very surprise they haven’t made a sequel or more DLC. I’m hoping for a sequel for the PS5.
If Sony let’s this franchise die then it will be a major loss to me.

UltraNova1429d ago (Edited 1429d ago )

Pwnmaster,

It's not up to Sony entirely, is it? From Software is busy with Elden Ring so I wouldn't hold my breath for BB 2 anytime soon.

pwnmaster30001429d ago

@Ultra
I could of sworn Sony own the IP.
Was thinking they can push it or something

toxic-inferno1429d ago

The franchise is showing no sign of dying yet - they keep bringing out more and more merchandise for it all the time!

Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare Used To Be A Gold Standard For DLC

"Used To Be A Gold Standard"

And every access game journo helped lower this standard.

isarai192d ago

Seriously, like even to the point of criticizing a game for being complete out the box and not dropping microtransactions on a storefront every month. Outlets were really out here mad that Hogwarts Legacy was finished and didn't need any battle pass, or "seasons" of DLC. So brainwashed they don't even know how to handle a game with an actual ending.

anast192d ago

For sure, and don't forget how "BG3 shouldn't be a new standard".

Cacabunga192d ago

RDR online is also a great deal

porkChop192d ago

The first time I felt like a game got DLC right was Borderlands 1. $10 for hours of content.

isarai192d ago

I paid $5 for Sleeping dogs DLC that added an entire campaign, new fighting styles and weapons, and basically turned the whole City into a zombie survival thing. Then another $5 for a full kickass tournament parading game of death which added an island, and lots of new fighting styles

Soy192d ago

Fallout 3, Mass Effect 2 & 3, Borderlands 1 & 2, GTA IV - those are my gold standards of DLC.

Something they couldn’t even give us in GTAV or RDR2

I honestly thought we’d get some Alien type of DLC for one of them at least

'Splatoon 3’s' Inkopolis DLC Might Be Nostalgic, But It’s Totally Shallow

o matter what the reasoning is behind Splatoon 3’s lack of content and substance in the first half of its paid expansion, Wave 1: Inkopolis is certainly not worth any fan’s money and should have always been viewed as a small bonus to tide fans off from what’s still to come.
