God of War Director Cory Barlog Wants to Remake Silent Hill

Last generation and part of this one, it was all about the HD remaster and fans jumped at the chance to play their favourite games in high definition. But there is a new king in town and the remaster is now what gamers are looking for.

Jin_Sakai1458d ago (Edited 1458d ago )

Do it! A Silent Hill remake on PS5 would be amazing.

gaffyh1458d ago

I preferred the first one over the second, but people say SH2 is the best one. Maybe I didn't give it enough attention back in the day?

ilikestuff1457d ago

No, keep focusing on that god of war, the latest one was by a mile the best. I can’t stop loving that game, it’s one of my favorites. I started Spider-Man like a week or two ago, it’s up there too. That web slinging around town is so fun

Dark-soul1457d ago

Yup, sh2 probably best ever horror/thriller game ever made in the world, you just cant neat that atmosphere and music and well everything

Fraggle19871457d ago

Silent Hill 2 is literally the best piece of horror fiction ive ever consumed. A Masterpiece.

fulldeepdive1456d ago

ilikestuff God of War 3 had more of an impact to me when it came out but the new one was great too. That old formula wouldnt be popular now so what he did with the franchise was a step in the right direction..lots of room for improvement...so hopefully we dont get shown the game 3 years before it comes out again or whatever they did to us .

ilikestuff1456d ago

Fulldeepdive
I dislike when they show a game way too early, there should be a rule, announce the game one year before it’s supposed to come out, if a problem arises then we got to wait another 6 months, no biggie.
When they announced the new god of war I thought it looked good but not great, I didn’t plan on playing it, I was kinda done with that franchise.. I was wrong! And those valkeries were so dang hard to beat.

UltraNova1457d ago

No, if anyone should remake/reboot SH it's Kojima. Only that man's mind can do it justice (remember PT Demo?). Enough said.

Cory should focus on GoW 2 and a brand new Santa Monica IP, it's time we saw what this amazing studio can do!

Sirk7x1457d ago

Hey, Cory did what he wanted to do with God of War, and look how that turned out. An absolute masterpiece. I'd rather the guy do something that inspires him, that he'd enjoy, rather than anything else.

UltraNova1457d ago

I respect your opinion but still I believe SM's talents can be put to better use making a brand new IP, a true source of inspiration.

zeuanimals1457d ago (Edited 1457d ago )

I doubt Kojima's the only person who can do it. I'd also like a game that's not filled with Kojima-isms. I love the guy and most of his games but he can get a bit full of himself and his games can really suffer from it at times. Though if PT was any indication, Kojima knows when to turn down the typical Kojima-isms when they don't really jive with the tone and atmosphere.

Keiichiro Toyama, the original director of Silent Hill, is also the head of Project Siren/Team Gravity, the Sony Japan Studio subsidiary that made Siren and Gravity Rush. Apparently he might be the one directing the reboot. I believe a ton of his original staff even came with him to Project Siren, though I don't know if they're still there since it's been decades.

Why not make a new IP drawing inspiration from Silent Hill without the creative limitations of a remake? I've love for him to make a horror game though.

Spurg1457d ago

I'm pretty sure Bluepoint is remastering Silent Hill one.

neutralgamer19921457d ago

No I think they are doing demon souls remake but it would be kind of shocking since everyone expects demon souls and we get either SH or MGS remake

Wetpapertowel1457d ago

Imagine remastering a PS1 game. Could you imagine.

Spurg I think you mean remake.

Spurg1457d ago

No...because Bluepoint game never remade a game they remastered. There is nothing wrong with the original silent hill/Silent Hill 2's controls.

LiViNgLeGaCY1457d ago

^^Not true. SotC was a remake.

fulldeepdive1456d ago

yeah dude it was a remake..remaster is taking the existing engine and assets and just sharpening things up. They made this game from the ground up but they did it so well that it followed the original to a t.. a shinging example of a 1 to 1 remake

TheKingKratos1457d ago (Edited 1457d ago )

You pretty sure, heh ?

Your source is ?!

Knightofelemia1457d ago

I'd be down for an SH Remake problem is will Konami play nice and allow it. Or will Konami say screw it try and cash in like Capcom did with RE2 get a half ass studio to do the remake and make a pile of shit like Downpour. And what do I want for a remake of SH, Xenogears and Twisted Metal? I would go both SH and Xenogears for remakes.

borneFROMblood1457d ago

1) you mean RE3, RE2 was inhouse
2) RE3 wasnt awful or cash in, it was okay, it was not RE2
3) Konami cant make good games anymore, they need someone else to do it

Knightofelemia1457d ago

Yeah RE3 lol no RE3 wasn't awful its just half baked and feels more like an add on for RE2

Sirk7x1457d ago

The RE2 Remake was by no means half-assed lol.

DrDeath1457d ago

We need a real twisted metal game. We need a good split screen game!

FlavorLav011457d ago

Don’t know about the split screen these days, but I think many would play a brand new next-gen Twisted Metal. I think it’s been long enough since since it’s had a proper outing. I could see loving some crazy destructible environments, changing map courses, day/nighttime/weather effects. Then have Mad Max, Ghost Rider, The Undertaker(Hearse), Rob Zombie or some other crazy car-related characters as pre-order DLC. New crazy soundtrack!! It could be awesome!

DrDeath1456d ago

Nope needs the couch co op. Twisted metal is the #1 couch co op game with friend and family imo. So much carnage and fun to be had. At any age nearly if you stay away from the stories which are usually dark.

I would buy a twisted metal either way. But they would never make it without a split screen it's what it's known for.

fulldeepdive1456d ago

RE2 Remake was amazing. One of the best remakes ever done.

DrDeath1456d ago

I agree. Starting on my fourth playthrough ATM.

porkChop1457d ago

If Cory was going to remake or reboot anything, I'd rather it be Legend of Dragoon. He previously said he'd love to work on that IP if Sony would let him.

darthv722h ago

huh..... well this could get interesting.

VenomUK44m ago(Edited 39m ago)

I predicted it would be Hermen Hulst as the new CEO, I never predicted there would be another…

Hulst will likely Host the PlayStation press event and hopefully there will be a positive energy at this new beginning for the division. I’m encouraged that both he and Hideaki Nishino reference the future so it sounds like Sony has a plan.

Eonjay9m ago

This is a really nice selection to me because Hulst is an actual game developer and has been doing so for decades. A developer in charge of making games. Not bad.

Plus the separation of responsibility is interesting and a nice way of handling an incredibly complex role.

All studios can make Horizon games now!

Interesting. 2 CEOs sharing the workload.

darthv721h ago

Two men enter (Hulst/Nishino)
One man leaves (Ryan)

romulus231h ago

Hulst will be CEO of the studios business group, and Nishino CEO of Platforms.

Relientk771h ago

Good luck to them and I hope they do great jobs. Let's see the games. Really hoping that rumored PlayStation Showcase is coming up soon.

Square should ask Sony for more money...

Square should ask Microsoft to buy them out...

gleepot5h ago

Sad but true. It's the consequence of a shift in player habits, massive overhead, and out of control budgets across the industry.

blackblades6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

What did NA and EU did anyways? Just translate or something? I would say it might help them get back to there roots but DK.

Hofstaderman5h ago(Edited 5h ago)

Actually, you are correct they play a hand in localization especially in Europe with the many languages. That and marketing.
