No doubt about that. The Series X is future equipped.

Spurg1463d ago

that was a great trailer....Time to revive that old SEGA and Xbox partnership. Bring more of their games to Xbox like Atlus's Persona series. If they don't want to work on Shin Megami tensei series then at least port the Persona games on Xbox.

l3w1s1462d ago

They are literally working on a mainline HD SMT title, what's wrong with you?

Killa781463d ago

Quite the coup by Microsoft!

NeoGamer2321463d ago

Lol more disagrees the agrees. The series continually gets 80+ on metacritic. Guess games are garbage if they aren't 90+.

Bruh1462d ago

No see the issue is that the Yakuza titles are no longer exclusive to Sony hardware and thus it is absolute trash now and Xbox gamers are over hyping it

neutralgamer19921463d ago

Good this series is still so underrated and under appreciated. As a long time fan I am not sure about the new turned based battle system but I still want the story

It will be so weird not having kiryu there

Veneno1463d ago

It's about time they bring something more fresh with like a dragon. Otherwise it's the same gameplay over and over. Although bringing the series to Xbox does give the series fresh new life as well but it's still the same games if you played them on PlayStation.

neutralgamer19921463d ago

Veneno

The developers said they are trying this and if it doesn't work they will go back to what worked. I think the best fighting style was in Yakuza zero so personally speaking that should have evolved but let's see if nothing else yakuza games always have good stories

Kribwalker1463d ago

i’ve really been enjoying yakuza 0, and honestly if it wasn’t on gamepass, i don’t know if i ever would have tried it.

i’m not the biggest fan of turn based combat either, but i might give it a go

Wetpapertowel1463d ago

That's sad that you wouldn't have tried it.

The_Hooligan1463d ago

Hey Krib, I am not sure if you have PS Now, but they have Yakuza 4 and 5 on there. I just got done with Kiwami 2 so going to borrow the 3rd one from my buddy and then play the rest of the series on PS Now. I haven't played Yakuza 0 yet, how is the gameplay?

timotim1463d ago

Big news for me. I have Yakuza 0 on hold while I finish up The Witcher 2 but I just love that Sega seems to have gone all in with this franchise on Xbox and Windows 10. Keep them coming Sega.

The_Hooligan1463d ago

Hey Tim, I think it is great that Sega is bringing this series to other platforms. I only have PS4 so I have been lucky enough to enjoy the series for a while but I am glad you and others around the world will get a chance to play this on day one even if you only own one console.

timotim1463d ago

Thanks Hooligan! This is how it should be...we are all gamers first. Wish we could have more of these kinds of conversations here. And yes...I game on Xbox, Windows 10 and in the future on mobile through xCloud...between those platforms, that will be all the gaming I can handle. I will be diving into PS Now though on Windows 10 if Sony can improve on the service and get newer titles to come over more often...even natively.

The_Hooligan1462d ago

I understand what you mean. We are gamers first and as long as we are enjoying playing games on whatever platform, in whichever way, that is all it matters. I have had PS Now and I can honestly say it is a good investment, especially now that the price is low. They don't put as many exclusives on it as others would want but to me it doesn't matter much because I like to buy collector editions of those exclusive games I want. But, I can totally see the appeal behind it. I mean if someone owns an xbox, you would be dumb not to buy a gamepass. All the exclusives on DAY ONE!! That is amazing. I usually only buy one console and wait until the other ones go very cheap and buy it to play the exclusive games on it. I for one am looking forward to the Xcloud service so that I don't have to invest in another system and buy the service and use my laptop to stream the games. Since I don't have a gaming PC/Laptop Xcloud is perfect for someone like me who games on just one console but still wants to play exclusives from another company.

I know I will be doing my multiplayer on PS4/5 but at least this way I get to enjoy xbox single player exclusives without dropping $400-$600 on a console. The game studio I am really looking forward to that Microsoft owns are Ninja theory and Playground. I think they will end up becoming their best investments. Also, the Initiative will be something special too by looking at all the talent they have up there.

This is what I enjoy the most about games. Just talking without any BS fanboy stuff. You game mainly on Xbox and I on Playstation but, here we are having a civil conversation about GAMES and not who's got more power and who's got more ssd speed.

Yakuza's Turn-Based Brawl Still Feels "Like A Disappointment" After All This Time

Fahad from eXputer: "Yakuza combat trades the series' classic brawling for menus and strategy, leaving some fans missing the beat-'em-up thrill."

isarai11d ago

It completely murdered the series for me. I love beatem ups, it's my favorite genre, always has been. The Yakuza series has always been the golden standard of that in my opinion and the annoying part is that they only went turn-based because of the reaction to a April fool's joke. Turn-based was something that I could never really get into despite trying. I wish I could get into it but it just does nothing for me and so when this game decided to go turn-based it just completely killed my favorite series which just really sucks.

Amplitude10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

I finished LaD and LaD:IW and still am of the opinion that the combat is absolute trash. Just the same couple animations over and over and over and over and SO much grind to unlock each new animation for each job. Really absolutely despise the combat and the systems built around the combat - still played through them though and would definitely put IW up there as a GOTY contender. Theres soooooo much more to do outside of the combat and the storytelling has just gotten phenomenal - but god damn i wish it had the classic combat.

The_Hooligan10d ago

You don't like any turn-based games or just the turn-based gameplay in the Yakuza games? I ask because I haven't started any Yakuza games and I was going start with either 0 or Kiwami 1 because I also like beatem ups more than turn-based. Although I don't mind turn-based games such as Persona, FF series or a good JRPG.

isarai10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

I don't like turn based, i tried over the years especially cause a lot of turn based JRPGs look rad af. But it's like nails on a chalkboard for me. Rare acceptions wete like pokemon and World of Final Fantasy. I actually own a copy of Persona 5 royal to try and tackle some day, but im honestly kinda afraid it's not gonna click for me either.

TheEroica9d ago

Playing yakuza 0 for the first time now. My first yakuza game ever.... Really enjoying it. Love all the little random beat em up battles and learning the systems.

CantThinkOfAUsername9d ago

Any game I'm interested in that uses a turn-based combat system gets the YouTube treatment. I tried playing turn-based many times before and I hate it with every atom of my being.

One example: regular mobs that you could have one-punched and moved on already take ages as everyone reaches their place, uses their attacks one-by-one then you get your turn and still miss with 99% so-called accuracy, yeah, I ain't sitting through all that shiz.

gold_drake9d ago

lets not pretend that yakuzas beat 'em up "battle system" was anything but basic.

thats not why ppl love the series.

isarai9d ago

That's a huge part of why the og fans loved the series, not the only reason, but certainly a big part.

neutralgamer19929d ago (Edited 9d ago )

As someone who owns yakuza like a dragon series games and have played almost all of them but ever since the went to turn base, I tried it just wasn’t for me

It really sucks because we are the fans who had been sporting the series since day one and then we are the ones left behind. And we have new fans coming in telling us how we are wrong For disliking this new change in the gameplay

isarai9d ago

This, so much this! I've completely abandoned the fanbase/community because of this. Every time i express how this killed the series for me, all the new fans start lecturing ME on how im "wrong" and how the beatem up combat was somehow terrible. So i rarely even attempt to engage anymore.

shinoff21839d ago

I've been one of those old school ps2 fans. I've yet to play the new ones. I'm getting there though. I think I'll like them but just don't know yet. Ironic though is cause I wonder how many yakuza fans who hate the turn based combat are the same ones that love ff16.

Si-Fly9d ago

So Pokemon’s combat worked for you but Like a Dragon didn’t? Is it the extra depth to the combat do you think?

isarai9d ago

Maybe? 🤷‍♂️ I always give them a shot, but if it doesn't do anything for me im not going to force myself to play a game where i don't enjoy the gameplay.

I love the turn based battle system but I do wish they would have split the series into two franchises, the ones with Kiryu follow the classic battle system while the new ones with Ichiban do turn based combat

Least then both fans could have been happy and they could have cycled between each of them to keep things fresh.

Vits11d ago

I think that was the plan. The Yakuza series has finished ditching the old combat system with Gaiden and moving forward would go with turn-based combat. Whereas the Judgment series would keep the beat 'em up style and bring it to newer heights. But there were all those rumors about the actor from the Judgment series and his agency were not willing to renew the contract, so we might never get any new games there.

isarai10d ago

Funny thing is i think the turn based would have fit the Judgement series more as the protagonist is more of a thinking man.

shinoff218310d ago

Could always just start another one.

shinoff218310d ago

I just finished getting all the yakuzas for ps4 and ps5. I've played up till 4 on ps3 and ps2 but then there was the whole not bringing 5 to the west bs back then. Anyway since then I haven't really played so I started all the way at 0 playing/streaming and plan on working my way up. I look forward to the new ones but I'm not sure how they'll turn out yet. I do love turn based though.

Amplitude10d ago

You're in for the single greatest series of all time my man. If you've already played 3 4 and 5, maybe skip them and watch a plot synopsis. They've aged really poorly - 3 in particular

shinoff218310d ago

@amplitude

I've played it since yakuza 1 on ps2 lol. Just back during ps3 they weren't going to bring yakuza 5 west due to sales of the series(if I remember right, or maybe no physical) so I stopped. Hadn't played in years. Yea yakuza is one of my favorite series. Top notch stuff right here.

notachance10d ago

nah man let Kiryu retire in peace already, dude just can’t catch a break..

Aphrodia10d ago

I used to love using an arcade stick for these games. It's really really fun this way.

Miacosa10d ago

Pure turn-based games seem like a thing from the past when devs were trying to do something more cinematic but could not.

shinoff218310d ago

I 100 percent disagree. There's nothing wrong with turn based. I feel action games most of the time are way to over the top. Give me a turn based game any day of the week. Aside from a handful of action jrpgs like star ocean and such.

Friendlygamer9d ago

That makes no sense. There's an entire audience for strategic games, they're not worse or better

CrimsonWing6910d ago

Not for me and I’m glad they made this shift. It’s been an incredibly fun game to play and honestly one of the highlights this year for me.
