Assassin's Creed Valhalla - Gameplay & Story Details Revealed

Jonathan Dornbush - "Assassin's Creed Valhalla is sailing into the age of Vikings, and we have our first gameplay and story details on this new adventure."

Atom6661475d ago

I know CG trailer...not real gameplay...etc. etc.

But I'm sold. I'm hopeful that the conquest elements from Odyssey are really expanded upon.

NecrumOddBoy1475d ago

When the Viking saw the Templar and said, "Odin is among us" it changed up where I thought this was going. The villagers and soldiers called the Vikings evil and barbaric but we play as them. Is this the first time we play as a pillaging Assassin? Like on the bad team?

Rambokind1475d ago

Yeah, not crazy about this premise.

yomfweeee1475d ago

The way I saw it, the Vikings were just trying to survive and it was England trying to wipe them out.

Dixiedevil1475d ago

It was the raven. Odin has 2 ravens, Huginn and Muninn, that he uses to watch over Midgard(our world).

Watch it again. The words the narrator is saying don't match what's actually happening on screen. It's to demonstrate how many misconceptions and lies there were about the Vikings. So, no, you aren't gonna be the "bad team"

No doubt about it. I'm all in on this one.

outsider16241475d ago

Was thinking of getting an Assasins creed game. How is Odyssey?

Atom6661475d ago

I'm a sucker for all AC games, so you might need a more objective review. But Odyssey was great in my opinion, and it was nominated for GOTY for good reason in my view.

Now, it's very bloated with content. That can be a turnoff for many. If you're looking for a linear 20-30 hr. title, Odyssey isn't it. If you're looking for an open world RPG with lots of variety (stealth, action, ship battles, etc.) then it's fantastic.

Just go into it with the mindset that you're playing a game more akin to the Witcher, and you'll get the most out of it. I put 100hrs into it and had fun throughout. People who hate grinding in RPGs probably won't enjoy it that much, but I never found it to be a chore to do some side missions to level up.

For $20 or so, you're getting a game with 80+ hrs of content. And it's very beautiful to look at, too. I also never touched a microtransaction, for what it's worth.

Origins is my favorite in the series so far. The story and characters felt a bit stronger than they did in Odyssey, to me. Also the Origins DLCs were some of my favorite add ons to a game ever. Both of the newer games are great though.

I was to say something positive. It looks like it will be fun. I hate the ship battles and wish I could get more rooftops.

Shane Kim1475d ago

They have gone full blown ship simulator after Black Flag.

-Foxtrot1475d ago

Ever feel the main thing they do when picking a new location / era is “Right guys what place can we fit naval combat into”

Maybe that’s why we’ve never had main land Japan or China

Darkborn1475d ago

Yeah it's cool for like 10 battles of each game and then it turns into annoying work.

FanboyPolice1475d ago

I wish I could get more Assasin and less Hack and Slash.

DarthSocio1475d ago

It got boring and repetitive after a while. I like the new RPG format

-Foxtrot1475d ago

It’s so grindy

Least stealth allowed you to take on a target into a variety of ways

I mean they could have evolved the stealth to keep it fresh they just didn’t. It took six games before you could crouch.

jbull1475d ago

There just AC games in name, its clear Ubisoft are sick of the AC franchise and really want to make an open world fantasy RPG. Just slapping the AC name gives it brand recognition and not risking new IP failure.
Like at this stage does anybody really care about the whole Assassins vs Templars anymore since AC3.

FanboyPolice1475d ago

Yeah. The super powers introduced in Odyssey are really strange in ny opinion.

alb18991475d ago

Wow, I like what I saw and the end was perfect. The SX logo feels so powerful Jajajaja!

Welshy1475d ago (Edited 1475d ago )

I like to amuse myself by pretending this isn't an obvious troll and is someone who actually has a brain so smooth that a logo genuinely excites them lmao

alb18991475d ago

I'm I or you can't handle what others think?
I'm genuinely excited about next gen, is there a problem with that?

Modern Games Are Getting Too Long

While there’s a lot to love about modern video games, there is one trend — particularly in the AAA space — that tends to grate: their length.

Games are coming out with too much fluff and side activities that are horribly dull. That's my main issue with all these open world games. Open world should be about exploration, discovery and wonder, not have some stupid 10s or 100s of boring activities spread throughout.

IAMRealHooman47d ago

100% agree
All these ubisoft titles, Farcry, AC, Ghost recon, boast huge maps, but with the same, 3 missions or the same base to clear 100s of times. Hour 1 of any of those titles is the same as hour 100, there big for the sake of being big, with the illusion of player freedom, where we really want depth and player expression.

Ninver46d ago

Give me a solid 15-20 hour engaging single player driven IP any day. Life's too short you dig.

isarai47d ago

I stopped buying overfluffed games like a decade ago. Cant stand games with the Ubisoft mindset of just filling maps with uselss collectibles and fodder. Make it mean something. Ill gladly take 1/4 size of the map and 1/10th the "content" if it all meant more, were more unique and greater affect on your progression.

Abnor_Mal47d ago (Edited 47d ago )

Well people complained like the world was ending when a few games were six to ten hours of gameplay. Developers listened and started making longer games full of repetitive gameplay, time wasting fetch quest and other forms of bloat. In doing so they were able to justify the high cost of a game being sold to the customers at seventy dollars or more.

H947d ago

Filler, it's like a 80 episodes show where only the first and last episodes actually matter

Inverno47d ago

It's been a problem with pretty much every modern AAA game all through last gen and this gen. God forbid you point it out tho because all these big games are masterpieces and people lose their minds if you criticize them. Death Stranding is a fetch quest fest, but people will die defending it cause it's a "masterpiece".

Thanks for the warning. I sure would have hated to have been surprised by installing a ubisoft game on accident.

Profchaos279d ago

Because you can't play all the games on every subscription already

KillBill279d ago

Valhalla is not on GamePass.

anast279d ago (Edited 279d ago )

I like Valhalla. The others haven't aged well.
