So with today being the one year anniversary of Days Gone's release, what better time to look back on whether the reviews/previews got it wrong?

I gave it a chance and really enjoyed it just thought the pacing was off and should've been a shorter game

Dkcolley1475d ago

I genuinely enjoyed every minute of it but yeah there is a point towards the middle where it slows down for a while. Worth continuing after the credits though to get more closure on storylines

UltraNova1475d ago

Yeah I've finished the game last week. It was awesome.

bouzebbal1475d ago

This game is freaking awesome.. The best of open world to me. There is always something to do.. And those graphics and weather effects ...

UltraNova1475d ago (Edited 1475d ago )

@booze

I was and still am pretty open-world game fatigued but DG had a unique vibe..I can't pin it down but I was never bored with it. Maybe it was the perfectly sized map and the pace it opened up in combination with the excellent bike traversal and random world events? It also appealed to my loot horder side too.

My favorite part (apart front the story) was finding a horde, baiting them in enemy outposts and watching the mayhem that ensued! One time I led a single Breaker to a 12 man camp and he decimated all of them!

The visuals were top notch and the 3D sound...oh man the sound... I can't wait to experience the Tempest engine on PS5!

NecrumOddBoy1475d ago (Edited 1475d ago )

The initial reviews were mixed but the lower 7s were fair with the day zero technical glitches and the 9s were accurate based on how amazing it really was content-wise. However, the 5/10 from Kallie (Gamespot) and the 6/10 from Lucie (IGN) giving their sexist and racist anti-male/anti-white wokeness in their reviews were unethical as all hell and that is just what happens when you allow identity politic to inject themselves into the gaming world.

Overall, I bought it day one and put 95 hours into Days Gone from start to platinum trophy (I didn't play any challenge modes/DLC) and I have to say it was incredible. There are some technical issues for sure but nothing was broken and it truly provided a world to get lost in. This game also had some of the best voice acting and dialog I have ever experienced in a game. It truly was cinematic. Hopefully, Bend can transition Days Gone 2 off Unreal and onto Decima. DG2 is going to be pretty badass if I can guess just based on how great the first one was.

@Ultra

I enjoyed so much just collecting loot..yes playing with good pair of headphones really takes the immersion to new heights.
I was actually very surprised that the game wasn't what I expected at all.. Gameplay videos we've seen are all about killing a massive amount of enemies so in the end I expected some pure action game ala Dead Nation in 3D..in the end I got The Last of Us crossed with RDR. Absolute blast!!!
Deacon is badass, rough but very caring.. Very good job from Bend's first AAA in years

ZombieGamerMan1474d ago

UltraNova sorry to be a dick but how was anything about Days Gone unique? Everything it did had been done before and better

UltraNova1474d ago

Zombie,

I'll answer with a question: Since when any new game has to be unique to be worth playing?

And yeah you're being a dick.

Honestly the first half was probably a 7 but the second half was really awesome which I will give a 8-9.
I hope they make a sequel. This game reminds me of uncharted. First one had problems but had some really good potential And the rest is history. So I’m hoping it turns out like that.

UltraNova1475d ago

Tbh DG was a way better 1st try than Uncharted 1.

Larrysweet1474d ago

It's TRUE up until iron Mike's camp I was like eh uh I like it but it's not cohesive but that point it really picks up

oasdada1475d ago

We need a fan accolades trailer for this too! And this game actually deserve it

S2Killinit1475d ago

When I finished it I still wanted to play it.

SonyPS3601474d ago

You and your rational thoughts obviously aren't welcome here.

Why are fanboys so irrational?

RabbitFly1474d ago

Pacing was of? I might be Quick to assume, but does that mean you thought the game was too slow?

Because traditionally Pacing is meant to describe someone that knows When to slow down. When someone critisize Pacing it is usually a lack thereof that is being mentioned.

P_Bomb1474d ago (Edited 1474d ago )

I agree with Charles. Pace and length. Replayed it on Survivor II and had a great time, but this time I skipped all the side content. NG+ carried over my max everything so I didn’t need them. The faster story pace benefitted the characters. Problem is, you miss some of the best mechanics.

The impromptu horde fights (50-ish?) and dynamic moments during exploration were my favorite parts. If you only follow the main story path you can and probably will miss most of them, save for the 5 or so tied to the story.

Fortunately once you beat the story, they’re all revealed on your 5 or so county maps. Risk is, Joe Public not sticking around for post-game. DG is big enough and has enough hidey holes in caves and buildings that you can outright miss a thousand bodies during the day when they sleep.

Sequel needs to integrate them earlier and more often. I love the feeling and atmosphere of being overrun. The music, the panic, the stamina, the crafting scramble and verticality. Pre-planning and improvising to plan B when you get flanked lol. I like the I am Legend hibernation cycle, but for gameplay purposes I’d also like more daywalkers.

Was a brilliant game that got good reviews, there were some overly high and low ones but overall it scored well, 100% want a follow up.

Dkcolley1475d ago

Currently sitting at 71 on metacritic which is too low for this game. User score is considerably higher

IRetrouk1475d ago (Edited 1475d ago )

The game to me is around an 8 out of 10, really fun with loads to do and the hordes were great, i liked the game well enough from previews to buy the version with the model of d and the bike, the metacritic score does seem a little low but makes sense when you consider the overly positive and negative ones would effect the score, but even on it's own, a 71 metacritic score isnt bad to me though🤷‍♂️

Felix_Argyle_Catbro1475d ago (Edited 1475d ago )

Too low? I wouldn't consider 7/10 to be low. I don't know about you, but in my scores 7/10 is good, 8/10 is great and 9/10 is fantastic. To me the game isn't great or fantastic, but is good, so I don't see problems with it.

Ausbo1475d ago

A 70 is still a “good” game. Don’t be fooled into people saying a game has to be a 9 or a 10. Sony’s first party has spoiled everyone, but not every game will be God of War or last of us.

S2Killinit1475d ago

Game was one of my favorites this generation.

DafunkyRebel1474d ago

After the major update the game is really good, run smoothly and has a pretty dope story. I like how the main character is human, and he lie his ass off to save his skin like we would in a real situation. He also has no hero complex like most idiots and just live to make it

MadLad1475d ago

The beginning is slow, and the game drags on more than it should, but I thought it was a good game. Definitely a weaker Sony offering, but a solid 7ish release in my books.
Had a strong Last of Us feel to it.

RememberThe3571475d ago

It's the worst great game I've ever played. The most fun I've had playing a legit 7/10 game. The Last of Us open world is not a bad comp IMO. I never really thought the game started slow and I actually enjoyed how long it was, felt like we got two games in one.

But man the list of things they need to polish up for the sequel is almost endless. If it wasn't for the amazing world they built and the great performances they got for the actors I think I'd feel differently.

Still, I couldn't put it down til I got hit with that God awful end scene; just in time lol.

RabbitFly1474d ago

Really? What kind of things needed polish?

RememberThe3571474d ago

The end scene was literally slapped together. Deacon talking to a bunch of stock NPCs with looping animations like they were cheering at a sporting event. In game dialogs that were longer than the rides they were playing over so when you got to the objective the convo was cut short and rarely ever lead to the next cut scene. Character development was sporadic at best. The beginning of the second half of the game was oddly paced leading to a "what am I even doing here" feeling. Bike and weapon customization of oddly flat for a game about gun and bikes.

All my issues are polish issues that probably came about by how vast the game world is and I imagine they'll be mostly take care of in the sequel. The same why ND fixed many issues in Uncharted with Uncharted 2.

patterson1474d ago

If Days Gone was an Xbox exclusive, it would be their best game. Perspective.

mandingo1474d ago

Wow the Sony boys have really rallied around this one. Can’t have all 9 and 10/10 games take the L Jesus Christ it’s pathetic.

Felix_Argyle_Catbro1475d ago (Edited 1475d ago )

No, they didn't. On average people seems to have rated it 7/10, which at least in my book is good. 8 is great and 9 is fantastic. I agree that it's a good game, but not great or fantastic.

Dkcolley1475d ago

It scored a lot of 6.5's and 6's which is too low. Its a solid 8.5/9 in my opinion but thats just my opinion

OB1Biker1475d ago (Edited 1475d ago )

Was awesome and that means better than amazing even though a bit less than sensational. All in all astonishingly better than remarkable.
That s a 453/467 in my book whereas most people rate it at 68% over the average (taking into account the average is widely accepted to be around 67.5 in the Summer but 78.5 in the Winter)

I’ve got it, never played it. Prey is a game I really wanted to like and it’s a game I really should have liked, everything about it is right up my street. But I just don’t know what it was but I just couldn’t stick with it.

Interesting that Konami is releasing nothing of note and still enjoying high profits. I guess this is the allure to companies.

VenomUK2h ago

It was probably due to the half-hearted release of the Metal Gear Solid Collection v1.

Imagine the extra sales Konami could’ve made if it had put some effort into it.

SimpleDad4h ago

Of course, they rereleased MGS series on modern platforms. Thank You Mr. Kojima.
