Resident Evil 4 Remake Has Reportedly Been In Development Since 2018

Gamingbolt: “ According to Dusk Golem, M-Two were originally set up specifically for the purpose of Resident Evil 4’s development, and their work on RE3 – on which, according to him, they assisted lead developers Red Works – was to be a practice run of sorts, a stepping stone to their next project. Work on RE4 supposedly began all the way back in 2018, and M-Two have been listening to and taking feedback for the recently released Resident Evil 3 into account. Additionally, Capcom Division 1 – specifically, the teams that worked on Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 – are also assisting with development.”

It's going to look amazing on the PS5 and XSX, the remakes already look so good

Sigh why not code veronica? If they do this don't screw up this already perfect game.

hanko141475d ago

i guess you didnt see an update about 4 remake. its on a fail scale already unfortunately.

but i agree with you with that. dont touch 4 and do code veronica

1475d ago
jeromeface1475d ago

There's plenty of older RE fans that felt 4 was trash and want them to instead do code veronica.

1nsomniac1475d ago (Edited 1475d ago )

Why was it a perfect game? I’m genuinely interested in finding out why people think this. I played it when it arrived on PC and it was a really crap game, like really dull and clunky.

Never understood the hype behind it at all. I think @Shaggy2303 is into something. I think the only reason it gained its hype was because it was kinda the first to do it on the Wii with motion controls. A system that was pretty starved of decent mature games. and it’s all a bit rose tinted glasses.

SoulWarrior1475d ago

What? RE4 was already hugely popular long before the Wii port lol

CorndogBurglar1475d ago (Edited 1475d ago )

RE4 originally released on GameCube in 2005. It released on PC in 2014.

So you played a 9 year old game and seemingly expected 2014 levels of game play? No wonder you were disappointed.

It gained its hype because it was one of the first games to do the over the shoulder perspective. It took the RE franchise in a new direction that wasn't nearly as divisive back then as people seem to think it was when they look back at it now. RE7 was divisive. RE4 was not. At least not back then.

Also, people now tend to blame RE4 for what RE5 and 6 became. But RE4 had a nice balance of more action while keeping the creepy atmosphere and puzzles. 5 and 6 just went full action, added a dodge/roll mechanic, gave you massive amounts of ammo. They stopped being Survival Horror. RE4 was still very much a Survival Horror game.

Imalwaysright1475d ago

The game was originally released in 2005 and for the time it didn't have "clunky controls". Not only that but it is one of the most influential games of all time. It basically kickstarted the over the shoulder view and the aiming system that would influence games like Gears of War, Mass Effect, Dead Space and Uncharted (just to name a few) and don't get me started on how good the game is. You have an extremely influential game and one of the best games ever made in the same package. That's how the game gained it's more than well deserved popularity.

RosweeSon1475d ago (Edited 1475d ago )

It gained hype from its GameCube exclusive launch (at the time) the game was that good they ported it to every system since. It’s a great game sure not everyone’s cup of tea but it’s a brilliant game no disputes
Soul warrior: agreed it just shows they don’t really know what they talking about 😑🥴😂✌&# 127995;

carcarias1475d ago (Edited 1475d ago )

It's just one of those things.

You had to play it back in 2005, on Gamecube, though I played the HD version last year in preparation ffor RE2 and still thought it was great.

It was adored by critics and players alike and highly influential for many franchises that followed. It also remains the highest scoring RE title (96) on metacritic. Mikami is a master, imho.

1475d ago
jeromeface1475d ago

There's a large number of fans that played it when it was released and still felt it was bad. I'll never understand how everyone can praise it now, yet still get excited when mechanics RE4 killed come back into the series. You can't have it both ways.

VileAndVicious1474d ago

Unpopular opinion but I've always disliked RE4. Not because it was a bad game per se but I've just always felt like it seemed out of place in the grand scheme of the series. For me RE4 was the beginning of decline of the series, gone was survival horror and tension left in its place action and an over-the-top (sometimes edgy) story that only got worse as the series progressed.

The lack of zombies, Leon's abrupt personality change and lame villain were huge turn offs for me. There were definitely some cool things done in the game but honestly the game could have been called ANYTHING other than Resident Evil and most people wouldn't have even batted an eye.

neutralgamer19921475d ago

the game needs an update. now they can bring the gameplay to next gen, and make quality of life improvements. they can make story improvement by making the escort mission less tedious

it was a perfect game when released not in today's standard that's why a remake would be amazing for this

bangoskank1475d ago

Was just about to post the same question. Great game and was an important storyline in the series. I guess Capcom feels they'll make more $ off an re4 remake.

neutralgamer19921475d ago

I think they may still do code Veronica remake too

Lord_Sloth1475d ago

Just pointing out there are 2 teams doing the REmakes cycling. CV may well be in development by the team that isn't doing RE4.

jeromeface1475d ago

2 team, correct @lord_sloth. One just finished RE3....

Starman691475d ago

Code Veronica was awsome. Probably my favorite.

DafunkyRebel1475d ago

Code Veronica isn’t a seller so why bother. RE4 is a numbered RE game and it is the best in the series so of course they’re gonna make this one first plus if it does well they will explore more remakes and eventually you CV fanboys will get your wish

Nerdmaster1475d ago

I agree. Original RE4 is still very good. They really should've remade Code Veronica (mainly because it isn't easy to find and play - for example, there isn't a PC version...)

zRude1475d ago

Lets see how badly they butcher this game, after what they did to 3.

KyRo1475d ago

They didn't butcher 3 though?

PyroMessiah861475d ago

The hacked off content says differently. It's all graphics and not giving a damn about the source. It's okay overall but could have been so much more. It should have improved on the original in more than just the graphical Dept.

It was already the least fave of many out of the first 3 games. They could have really done something special with it.

Talking up Nemesis also like it was some advanced AI like the Alien in Alien Isolation. 🙄

KyRo1475d ago

Cutting content on a already short game was a bad mistake on Capcoms part but to say it was butchered? Hardly. It's still a great game. Just one hard to justify at full price.

It also showed us that once again that a more action focus isn't the root RE should take and this is why I don't want a RE4 remake. It still hold up well now in comparison to other games from that era but after the amazing RE2 Remake and RE7, I want horror over action from the series.

jaymacx1475d ago

RE 3 was more action even in the original. It had a faster pace. As for the cut content I totally agree. If it was longer and had more puzzles it would of been pretty much perfect. It should of been priced at $40 with what it released as.

RosweeSon1475d ago

Nope they just didn’t double it in size which I think people were expecting however the original was far from a lengthy game so I still can’t understand the shock haha removing mercenaries was a mistake tho even if they did add an online mode. Hopefully they can patch mercenaries in for free.

neutralgamer19921475d ago

KyRo

What do you call taking out full areas of games ? If not improving it the least they could have done was to keep the content from original

Instead of adding they made an already short game shorter

KyRo1475d ago

@Nuetral, I did state that in my reply but again, the game ain't butchered because certain parts are missing... Those parts didn't need cutting and I'm baffled as to why they did. They should have definitely expanded on what was there but the game overall is still a solid game.

RosweeSon1475d ago

That’s how 3 was all them years ago, Bare bones.

DafunkyRebel1475d ago

RE3 was never a good game in the series so the remake being bad can be forgiven. RE4 on the other hand is a great game and a best seller so you know Capcom won’t be ducking around and make a shoddy product, they’ll put been more resources and effort into it than RE2

jBlakeeper1473d ago

The original RE3 was great. Nemmy was scary as hell and the game never let up on the intensity.

Zodiac1475d ago

Without the motion controls, I’m not really interested

jaymacx1475d ago

Maybe it will have a vr mode. They should make a VR RE that has zombies and you are in a mansion like the original.

RosweeSon1475d ago

That’s how it was intended. Without.

Zodiac1475d ago

Sure, it was “intended” without them because motion controls weren’t a thing yet. The Wii version is the superior version. I haven’t had a chance to play the switch version, but I hear the controls aren’t as great

RosweeSon1475d ago (Edited 1475d ago )

Each to their own zodiac but can’t beat the original for me that GameCube pad was what the game was made for as for that chainsaw controller 😅😍🙌 27995;😂

Tross1475d ago (Edited 1475d ago )

I hated motion control, especially at the time. If I had the option I would play versions of a game that didn't have them. So, I for one am glad a RE4 remake won't have them, if this pans out.

PyroMessiah861475d ago

Just like RE3 remake was reportedly worked on at the same time as RE2.....but clearly if so with a lot less effort put in.

News like this doesn't mean anything if the effort isn't there to improve on the original. I'm not just talking graphics. RE3 is such a letdown.

jaymacx1475d ago

It does say though in the article that they are listening to feedback from RE3. I know they have had to see what people are griping about.

borneFROMblood1475d ago

Capcom worked on RE2 but different studio worked on RE3. I bet Capcom are in charge of RE4 since its as important to them (and everyone else) as RE2.

The 10 PSVR 2 Games You Should Own

If you're looking for 'must have' PSVR 2 games then look no further. These are the 10 titles every PSVR 2 owner should have in their library.

If you're wanting more PSVR 2 support, you should probably buy all of these games.

Speak with your wallet!

Profchaos41d ago

Bit rich to have to buy games you don't want because you want Sony to support the expensive headset they sold us which cost as much as the console it runs on beyond paying third partys to support it.
Seriously in terms of first party we have horizon on day 1 and a gt 7 vr mode.

They seemingly have made little effort to support it beyond paying Capcom to make re games in VR or a second party studio to make firewall which was mismanaged.

I'm a day 1 psvr2 user and the only thing I'm excited for right now is PC support.

I commented recently this bespoke VR game development model we have right now clearly doesn't work

crazyCoconuts41d ago

On the one hand I feel like there's been plenty of smaller non-AAA games to play and occupy me as a supplement to my flat screen gaming.
But I agree that Sony has done nothing to elevate this beyond the niche it's in and into the mainstream where it would be economical to create AAA games for it.

Babadook741d ago (Edited 41d ago )

Most of these games are worth owning for most people; I own all but 2 of them in fact. So I agree with kevco33. I think you're crazy if you downplay this list quite frankly. Sony can't keep funding software if people don't buy any of it, the ball is squarely in OUR court.

Sony has spent a lot on 3rd party stuff this gen like RE.

phoenixwing41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

Saving up for the headset is my first hurdle. Let alone buying games I don't want lol

mudakoshaka41d ago

People downvoting you for not having enough finances...what a world we live in, haha

phoenixwing41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

@mudako
They feel affronted at the very thought that I don't plunk down 500 immediately lol I have a little over 900 games in my backlog I've been buying games instead of hardware ever since I got my PC and ps5. I just don't know if vr is really for me honestly. Every time I have a couple hundred allocated to video games it makes more sense to buy a bunch of flat games instead of vr ones

mudakoshaka41d ago

I have 9 out of these 10 games. I try to buy all the VR games I like to support the advancement of VR!

TheEroica40d ago (Edited 40d ago )

I spoke with my wallet after watching the first headset get weak support. Easy pass until Sony earns my money. Feel bad for those who parted with 500 bucks, falling for the hype that Sony was actually gonna support this thing.

Neonridr41d ago

I own 7 of these titles off the list, lol.

NotoriousWhiz41d ago

I'm trying to decide if it's worth holding onto my psvr 2. I enjoy what it has currently, but it seems unlikely to get anything else. Might be better off just waiting for something with more support if that ever comes.

Profchaos41d ago

As a fellow psvr2 owner the question seemingly comes down to do you own a PC.

I think I'm all in I have a habit to hold onto my systems anyhow I still have my psvr1 to hell I still have my NES.

But while it's still worth something yeah you could sell it and if Sony turns the ship around you should be able to buy another one for less than you soldmit for I feel like we won't see any fix for the headset for the next 2 years rumours show that Sony has no current first party VR games in active development after they closed London studios

The whole psvr2 situation has left me feeling a little burnt on PlayStation as a whole to be honest. The first psvr felt experimental but it was supported far more than this superior headset

MIDGETonSTILTS1741d ago

GT7 surprised me, because I hate racing games, but i poured 100 hours into it way too quickly.

I’m looking forward to the Metro VR game this year, and I hope that WW2 dogfighter game releases eventually.

talocaca41d ago

I have most of them 😅

Waiting for a sale on Synapse and Arizona Sunshine 2.....also Metro coming this year looks great.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Was Devastated With Bugs A Month Before Launch

The Resident Evil 4 remake's director has revealed in a recent documentary that the game was riddled with bugs in its final month before launch.

Rebel_Scum57d ago

Not a big surprise really. All games are pretty rough until the very end and everything is released with bugs regardless of how the consumer quantifies it as being “polished.”

CrimsonWing6957d ago

That’s sort of how game development or any kind of software development goes. Looking for bugs and debugging, QA, and trying to scramble and polish everything before a deadline’s up.
