What Happens to the Used Games Market When GameStop Fails?

There are obviously no stores that are excited about having to close, but the situation for GameStop is reportedly especially dire. Analysts were already arguing that GameStop was fighting for its retail life even before the coronavirus spread. If GameStop is forced to close for a few months, there’s a good chance they may never re-open or never be able to fully recover.

And you end up making about the same amount, and run the risk of someone saying they didnt receive their package, leaving you with nothing.

There's pawn shops which may give you $5 a game. There are some apps out there and craigslist, but they're all a pain in the ass.

It's going to be one of those things that a lot of people dont realize how convienant it was to just go to game stop.

There’s other smaller stores I believe Best Buy and Wal Mart also do used games

As far as I know Best Buy dropped out of the used games I know the Best Buy by me dropped out of the used games. And the Wal Marts around me have never dealt with used games must be an American thing.

if you took a minute to google your city for used video games chances are your city is big enough to have other smaller companies that do the same thing

I’m not even in a big city, and we have a GameStop as well as an independent shop that sells used games. They deal more with previous gen games, but would change if GS leaves town.

I think there’s another half dozen similar type shops within a 30 min drive. We’ll all survive without GameStop. Not to mention, good to support local businesses.

Ebay, Kijiji, smaller stores like Microplay, etc. And last time I checked the bigger chains like Best Buy also sell used games now. It isn't just GameStop.

A few local used games stores in my area are available. They give me cash for my games and I can trade them too.

If game stop closed, itd open the doors for more indie stores, or smaller chains, to open up. Gamestop is kind of the walmart of games retail. They push a lot of the smaller stores out, as smaller stores have less capital to get the lower pricing on new releases. Games retail is a tough market for a brick and mortar store. I sell games online as a side business, and it's not even worth selling new games. I stick to retro and imports, as the profit margin is worthwhile. Selling a new game in ebay, I make $1-2 per copy. Hardly worth my time.

I don't care. I think their will be a void left after they are gone and I'll miss them. I was one who only bought games for great prices used. I never sold anything there. I'll miss the ease of buying games on the cheap.

Ebay if its great titles like say God of War if its something like a yearly sports game keep the case toss the game in the trash same with really shitty titles. I avoid yearly sports games because I don't want a collection of 15 different NHL titles sitting on my shelf taking up space.
