They keep adding more ways to make. Those were legit for people who wanted it. Glad to see they shut those babies up. It's like I said when they announced it. If it doesn't affect you just don't use it. No one was forced to and look, even more ways, they added the offline bonuses etc.
Nitro Fueled is definitely a beautiful example of what supporting a game is. They really made it free for all that content and if you were playing from the start it really has been reasonable to get all the content. Game is amazing. My only issue is the weird invisible wall collisions every once in a while. But that's it. It's crazy when you think about it
