Both. There are great developers with crap publishers (Respawn under EA) and crap developers under great publishers (Game Freak under Nintendo).

Bottom line it comes down to the customer/consumer (you) giving them power by buying their crap. wait for reviews before handing people money on a product that you honestly haven't played. It's like buying a car before test driving it and then complaining about it after. The truth is you're setting yourself up. Wait for reviews, wait for patches and a sale. Unless it's the next Mario, Zelda, naughty dog game, you're taking a risk. That's not the developer or publisher that's your dumb self. They actually want you to remain stupid. the rest is up to you.

We gamers only came united once and that was during the Xbox One launch which was going to be an online only gaming console. Afterwards gamers easily accepted online 24/7 on consoles. What I mean is console games require useless updates, dlc, and pay to play online (why haven't console gamers demanded to end pay to play online boggles my mind) which the only way to do it is having an internet connection. This article is pretty much what I being saying all these years but is not only complaining but actually not buying the game period.

Yeah I can't think of any other industries where people developing a product trying their best but not delivering is acceptable I guess because there's an element of art attached but if the core mechanics are broken it should be considered an incomplete product.

For example no one goes to Elon oh well you tried when a Tesla self drives into a concrete barrier.

If a software developer writes a program for a doctor and the program hands out incorrect drugs or dosage does the Dr go well it's close enough.

just like with movies and music, when capturing the lowest common denominator the the goal of most of the publishers, the overall quality of whats put out goes down.

there are still great games coming out but they are not gonna be what appeals to the lowest common denominator.

The trouble is the sheep will keep buying the crap so nothing will change. Expect much of the same next gen. This industry is out of touch with the older gamers as well, that’s why I play retro games more than today’s tripe.
