PlayStation had a meh year.
The only saving grace was Death Stranding and even that game was a strong decent game.

It does include categories for third-party games as well. I agree this year isn't the best compared to some previous years.

Edit: I'm annoyed that Greedfall got left off a few categories I think it should be in there for.

My wife got me Greedfall for my birthday and I watched her start the game but have yet to play.

I've been a huge fan of Focus Home and even Spiders for a while. I've been following the production of Greedfall since it was announced years ago.

From the fantastic looking alt history setting, to the solid looking real time combat with the turn based options (similar to DAI). Even the narrative choices/consequences are inspired by The Witcher 3. The party system seems to successfully ape the best Bioware games and the budget was actually double that of their last game.

I'm very happy to see reviews be so solid for a "budget" RPG and I'm pleased that people such as yourself are championing the game.

I will deep dive into the world very soon and give it a whirl. I fully support mid tier publishers and I love this resurgence we are seeing with games like Vampyr, Greedfall, Remnant, Darksiders Genesis, Sinking City, Call of Cthulhu, Elex, and Plague Tale. Less celebrated publishers like Focus Home, Big Ben, Nordic, and even Devolver are really having great success as they continue to push out quality content.

Compared to whom?

PlayStation didn't have as stellar a year as perhaps 2018, but it was still a solid year compared to their competitor.

For me Death Stranding was a STRONG Game of the Year competitor and Days Gone was perhaps the most underrated game of the year. Judgement was a fantastic exclusive, Blood & Truth was one of the best VR games to date, Concrete Genie was excellent, MediEvil was a joy, and true fans absolutely adored console exclusive Shenmue III. At the same time Sony continued to support GT Sport to an almost unprecedented level, Firewall, Days Gone, and VR in general. Sony published Blood & Truth, Everybody's Golf VR, and supported the system with games like Tetris Effect, Trover, No Man's Sky, and the announcement of Iron Man VR.

They also started publishing on PC, putting more into PSNow, making strides in crossplay, and they revealed their plans for PlayStation 5. Also, Wattam releases December 17 as well.

I believe that while Sony didn't have the unequivocal game of gen contenders like GoW or Bloodborne, it did have a lot of solid offerings in a variety of genres spread throughout the year. Just because it wasn't their best year, it doesn't mean it was a bad year.

Death Stranding is not a first party game, the only AAA first party game was Days Gone, a trully bad year in all aspects for PS4, far worst then its competition.

Far as "PS4 exclusive of the year" my vote went to Death Stranding including "PS4 game of the year"

I've had an incredible time so far this year. I mean the year started with RE2, remake I never thought would happen but damn I'm so glad it did! Enjoyed Metro Exodus very much and I absolutely loved Days Gone and Yakuza 3&4. Control is a great very underrated game and Death Stranding is unlike anything I've ever played. Borderlands 3 was awesome too even if it didn't really change anything up(wonder why it didn't get inundated with piece after piece outraged that it didn't innovate anything) and there were so many more.

Really excited for next year because TLOU2 and hopefully Ghosts of Tsushima will release as well. Also the PS5 is hitting! I love when a new gen starts! I love the whole experience of purchasing and the conversations you have with other fans. Come on 2020!

I keep seeing detractors saying "PlayStation had a bad year" and I'm just wondering why don't I see comments from the same detractors holding the competition to the same standards. I mean Crackdown 3 and Gears 5 aren't exactly earth shattering. I'm sure Gears 5 is a good enough action game but it's another sequel in a series that has seen better days. So where's the outrage for M$'s less than stellar year?!?! But it's not exclusive to this year, it's been like this for years so yeah I'll take Dreams early access, Days Gone, Death Stranding, Shenmue III, MLB the Show 19, Concrete Genie and the VR games all day long.Whether you disliked Days Gone or Death Stranding many did and by all intents and purposes they were successful. I'd say it's a safe bet we'll be getting Days Gone 2 so y'all should get your salt ready. Don't worry though I'm sure you'll have a few years to get ready!

I would recommend playing A Plague Tale: Innocence, when you get a chance.

It's one of the presents my wife got me for Xmas. Love the setting, subject matter and from what I've read the narrative as well.

I wonder why The Last of us 2 was left off the most anticipated game list?
I put it down as other but it should have been listed

TGGJustin1615d ago

If you read the post you would have your answer. Any game that won that category in a past year can't be nominated again. TLOU 2 won it like two or three years ago.

FFXIV, Days Gone and Sekiro are the best this year
