The Legacy of Bushido Blade - Square's One-Hit Kill Fighter

Zach writes: The fighting game genre often goes through peaks and troughs, some console generations see the genre at the top of the pack, whilst others see just a handful of new IP’s release to little fanfare and mediocre reviews. At times, it’s easy to feel that the genre is a little stale – and lacks innovation.

Bushido Blade is a fantastic game that I think was hugely underrated at the time of release, I'd love to see a remake with updated visuals and gameplay. The insta kill mechanics were unique at the time and made for very tense duels.

It was underrated because it was a slow paced fighting game instead of the usual button mashers most are use to playing.

I still remember the times when playing Bushido Blade 2 with friends and family. That moment when they try to use the sand/dirt throwing mechanic on you and you just throw your sub-weapon into their face.

I remember when this first came out, and I played it, and I hated it. Couldn't get very far. I just didn't really understand what it was and what I was supposed to do to progress.

I played it later in life, and learned what to do, and actually enjoyed it well enough.

The game design was cool, damaged limbs and one hit kills. The game was very tense, kinda felt like a fight to the death.
