Persona 5 Royal Is Launching in the West at the Worst Possible Time

Atlus is releasing Persona 5 Royal on March 31, 2020 internationally, putting it right in the middle of Final Fantasy VII Remake and Cyberpunk 2077.

P5R is definitely a backlog game or a possible skip for me even though the original was my GOTY. There a lot of games coming out around that time and P5 is over 100 hours long and assuming the new content is going to add a lot more to that play count.

I agree.. might just wait for it to go on sale.. still unsure how I feel about playing this 100+ hour game all over again.. though I absolutely loved it and really want to play the new content.. its difficult for me to live another life again lol

If there is any way to play the new content without going through the entire game again, I’m all for it, if not then I might not play it as well.

This is why Atlus should have made an expansion rather than a re-release with added content.

The thing is, the new content is spread throughout the game. There’s some story stuff but it’s story stuff that’s threaded into the rest of the story. There’s also content like more options of things to do in the day-to-day parts of the game.

I enjoyed playing Persona 5 but I won't be paying full price for the Royal edition knowing there are so many new games releasing in Q1 2020. I'll be buying the Royal edition later on in the year & hopefully the price will have dropped.

ATLUS needs to cut this out, otherwise I will never buy a Persona game at initial launch and just wait for “X” Edition to come out.

P5 was a classic. Loved it. But is P5R different enough to invest another 100+ hours into?

As this will be the third time I do it, I can say...objectively, no, but subjectively, yes. The majority of your P5R experience will be familiar to you, but I treat it both as a dive into more content, and as an excuse to replay a game I enjoyed. Releasing it as an entirely new game is an antiquated concept in the age of DLC though, so there's no reason why Persona 5 needs to do what its predecessors did. On the other hand, Atlus clearly knows that people will buy it anyways, so...count me among the suckers who will only somewhat begrudgingly do so.

If it's anything like golden, it was an opportunity to play it again, while feeling pretty fresh. Because they seem to be made with returning fans in mind.

Depends on how long ff7r is and if I keep wanting to play for sidequests and such. Theres cyberpunk about a week later too so itll be tough deciding which to get first. Shame atlus cant localize these games quicker and considering they already have all the translation done from the base game...
And I hear there isnt a ton of content added in so I am leaning towards just waiting for a sale and going for cyberpunk first.

Persona 4 Golden was incredible, so much additional content compared to the base game. That being said, I've heard the content in P5R isn't as substantial this time around. Maybe it's best to wait for a price drop?

I'd say it's as good as those other games, no problem. But, a reiteration? You wanna get as many retuning players as possible, and thats far harder with new compition in the vicinity. You'd think they'd think harder about when to release it....

Tho, i'll be getting it on release. No "part 1" of a turnbaseless ff7 is enough to stop me.

Yeah defintely going to go with Cyberpunk over FF remake and Persona 5. I'll pick up FF remake maybe once all the chapters are out.

From what i know, it changes based on if you ambush them or not. P4 Golden did the same thing with "reach out to the truth" and "time to make history."

Freaking persona is the only exception for me when it comes to being ripped off by re purchasing a full priced updated version of a game. I still hate it and this practice has to end. Make an expansion and sell it a few years down the road, and if a complete edition comes out for 30 bucks, that's fine too. These game companies treat us like shit and rip us off and we sit here and fanboy/girl out over this crap. I'm not innocent here, like I just said persona is my Achilles heel. I'm dumb, I realize that. Even though I dont fall for this 99 percent of the time it's no justification for it. We all have to stop letting ourselves get played by money hungry companies that play on our nostalgia and love for gaming.

It's kinda hard to buy it at 79.99 at launch when the original was just 9.99 on sale in Canada. I'll wait till the 49.99 sale or trade FFVIIR for it when I'm done.
