That's been known for years since the service started... The bonus discounts on games you buy never go away, unlike stadia games that are locked if you cancel service.

Unless they disclaim something to the effect of "cancel anytime but keep the ones you have". I know the 360 games you get in GwG are yours to keep if you dl them on a 360 but if you get them on an xbo then they are subject to the same restrictions. Which is why when they announce 360 games each month, i fire up my 360 to partake even though i will likely play on the xbo. A free game on 360 IS a free game.

Just a question but these days the big size PS Plus games I only get the option to download - no option to add to my library. This was the case for LoU and also Nioh. However, I still get the Library option for the smaller 'secondary' games.

Is this the same for other regions? Kind of annoyed me as I forgot to 'download' LoU and now it isn't in my library. Already had it on disc, but even so...

It only took you 9 years to figure that you don't get to keep PSN plus games if you end the sub. Streaming is coming, like it or not. Maybe Stadia won't be the one the push it to the mainstream but XCloud is showing it does the model better even in its preview stage.

The reason I'm against Stadia is mainly down to the precedent and direction that it sets. I don't want the industry to move to a streaming only model. I want to own my games forever without a subscription.

I want to be free to turn off my internet and still play.

I don't want any company taking away a game that I love because the licencing has run out.

They should have launched next year when it was ready. Every device needed to be supported at launch. The launch lineup needed to be far bigger with games people actually want to play. Start with the free 1080p service, and offer a handful of demos for people to test out the service before committing. Show people the service actually works before you start charging for the 4K service.

The Stadia server farms are their own separate thing with specific hardware. Google has their main data centers everywhere, but the same isn't necessarily true for the Stadia-specific servers.

This would explain why some people are experiencing input lag of 2+ seconds, while others are only experiencing split-second input lag.

So in a sense, yes, stadia and services like it would destroy gaming. What MS is doing is different and at least they offer a physical console and not exclusively streaming.

The problem is that people think this is the exact same thing as music or movies which is not at all. Even music and movies are different. With music, you can listen to absolutely free. Any song from any artist is free. Go on youtube or spotify or any other website/service and you can listen for free. Did you notice that vinyls are coming back? Did you ever wonder why? Think about it!

With movies there is still a huge market for blu-rays and even DVD's. People still buy them a lot. If it will go 100% streaming, than you'll see something different.

Now games are completely a different beast all together. On PC it's close to 100% digital and that happened very rapidly but at least you have the game on your hard drive. Though you can sell it, it is there. Now, imagine if all gaming becomes 100% streaming. The question will come, how will that impact developers financially. Will they be able to make as much money on the games as they did before? Or more? Will gaming be more monotized? Game prices will never decrese becase why should they if the only way you can get them is from one source. There is a second hand market now which helps keep games prices down. Even now, digital games are more expensive than physical games. There are many games on PSN sold for $50-$60 that I can buy for $20 lr less on ebay on a disc. So if now it's like this, imagine what will happen if there is no second hand market because it's full streaming. A 100% streaming future will change gaming fondumentally. If you can't see that, than that is your problem, not mine.

What I find extremely hypocritical is you're ok with movies and music because there's a market for physical regardless of it shrinking. Why can't this be the same for games?

All I see with Stadia was an option to game, not a hostile takeover that would change the landscape. Regardless of how you feel this is the direction the industry is going and I think the option to play a game anywhere on any device and come home and pick up where you left off from on your console is pretty brilliant. You can cry and whine about how it'll forever ruin gaming, but that's your problem, not mine.

Movies make the wast majority of their money in the cinemas. After that it's movie related merchandise.

Going digital with movies and music have already changed them and it will still change and not for the better.

I still buy blu-rays not because of nostalgia. I don't have any kind of nostalgic connection to a newly released movie. I buy them because if I want to watch a movie, I will watch it and I don't have to worry about netflix taking it off or currently not being on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Video,,,etc and I can sell it whenever I want because it's MINE.

Once gaming goes full streaming the second hand market will disappear and there will be nothing stopping these people from raising the prices and keeping them there. You are talking about steam, great, but that's still not streaming. If your HDD is full, you buy a bigger one. How hard is that? Or delete one or two games and make some space. You'll have it in your Steam library right? You can download it again any time you want....oh but you can't do that because it can be taken off for any reason and than you lost your purchase which is only a license anyway just like with streaming. Digital only is bad but streaming is worst.

You are the same kind of person who I argued with on the dawn of microtransaction. You defend streaming just like people defended microtransaction with the same carbon copy arguments. That it won't change anything, it will give us more options, it will have no negative effects, it's very convenient. Crimson - in Aus there's only a few places to buy physical music, movies and games from these days. There's no rental for movies and games. It's looking pretty grim for bricks and mortar stores.

As other people have exhaustively explained already, there's a big difference between streaming as an option, and streaming as the exclusive way games are delivered. I don't own an Xbox, but assuming I did and I paid for Gamepass, obviously I'd choose to download the games. At that point, if I also have the option to stream a game to my phone, while the experience is likely to be laggy, it doesn't really limit me in any way.

So I'm fairly ambivalent on xCloud, I guess you could say. If MS eliminated physical games and digital downloads in favor of steaming, yes, I'd be against it.

What do you mean it wouldn't change anything? These corporations want you to pay a constant fee for a service vs selling you a finished product. You wouldn't own anything and they would have complete control over how you receive said service. Aside from the remarkably obvious difference of input lag, major streaming services in those areas (Spotify/Netflix) have actually moved toward allowing downloads in addition to streaming. And the "well you have to pay for a console" is not even that strong of an argument for Stadia, since the upfront cost is $130.

Here's the thing. I'm not for or against Stadia or the idea behind it. They're trying something new, and of course it's going to be terrible for a minute. Of course it's going to be lacking initially. We live in a public beta testing age, and "we" as gamers can thank ourselves for that. People want everything "Now, Now, Now." so investors force incomplete product out to see if it's embraced. THEN improvements/updates come. Again, not for or against Stadia, but streaming is a PART of the future of gaming, and even if this iteration fails, I guarantee a LOT will be learned from it.

The story here is a flawed business model as much as the technical issues. You still have to pay FULL PRICE for every game even on top of a pretty pricey subscription fee (!), those full priced games are mostly very old, and you're still shelling out over $100 for the controller etc. Even if the streaming was flawless, I would still not touch this.

The problem with the stadia is the way they advertised it. For some reason, it was targeted towards people who most likely already have systems they are content with, when it should have been marketed towards the more casual crowd as a cheap alternative to a console, which some on the fence see as too big of an investment to get into gaming. Terrible marketing job.

And on top of that they made the ludicrous decision to not make this a game streaming subscription. GamePass has been a massive success so far, they should have done something similar instead of making you purchase the games. A subscription service would also have been more attractive to the casual crowd, which shouldve been their target audience in the first place! Some people at google are about to be fired.
