I'm no tech whiz.. I read 50% and don't see big leap but I could be wrong as usual.

Hedstrom1626d ago

Frequency doesnt realy say much in itself. You need to know cores and threads. Its like saying subject A can move its legs 50% faster than subject B without knowing what subject A and B are. Is A a horse and B an ant? We just dont know

Mkai281625d ago

Indeed, but we know it's some variation of the Ryzen Zen 2 CPUs. Which is far better then the Jaguar CPU. And it's good even to high end PC standards..

elazz1626d ago

Clock frequency is one thing. Instructions per cycle another. IPC of zen 2 is more than double the jaguar cores of ps4 I think

conanlifts1626d ago

Depends, it is a bigger increase than the PS4 to Xbox One X in frequency. Remember frequency and overall speed are not the same. More shader units, ROPS , texture mapping units etc.

UltraNova1626d ago

I guess all comparisons to specs will be based on the OG consoles, not the enhanced.

Marketing 1:1.

bluefox7551625d ago

If you look at the PC market, the overall speed of CPUs is going up MUCH faster than the average clock speed. So even if it was the same frequency as as the last one, you could still count on a sizeable boost, the fact that it's 50% more is very good news.

Eonjay1625d ago

We are talking about frequency specifically.. so the Pro is 2.1 Ghz. A 50% boost is about 1GHz. So the PS5 would have a frequency of about 3.2 GHz. This is tremendous considering the Zen 2 is already light-years ahead of the Jaguar. A 2 1GHz Zen 2 would destroy a 2.1 Jaguar and even a 3.2 Jaguar.

Mithan1625d ago

cpu will be 3-6x times better than current gen.

rainslacker1625d ago

Frequency determines how fast a chip can process a command instruction, or how fast each cycle executes within the chip itself. It isn't a full measure of how many instructions can be processed per chip cycle.

For example, the CELL in the PS4 was about 80% faster than the PS4 APU. While it could process individual commands 80% faster(disregarding other system bottlenecks), the PS4's APU can process significantly more data in the same cpu cycle due to the amount of processing functions it has within it's architecture.

Between two equal processors....say if you took two i5 processors of the same type, the higher frequency means it could process the same amount of data faster, but not necessarily more per cycle. You'll get more overall data processed within a set time frame with higher clock speeds in this scanario though.

Gamingbolt, flash and pizazz, no substance though...

and always seems to be interviewing the warface dev.

Muzikguy1625d ago

Does the dev work for gamingbolt? Another lame attempt at an article by these guys. They sure are hyping the next gen up enough

elazz1626d ago

50% increase in frequency plus double the instructions per cycle would equal around 6 times more performance. Digital foundry did a very detailed research comparing the potential power with current gen and cpu depending on boosts would be between 6 - 8 times more powerful than Ps4 pro - ps4

rainslacker1625d ago

Dunno if that would equal performance like that. The instructions are going to be different, or at least added onto from this gen. Overall data throughput then I guess you could be right.

I know the next gen console processors can do quite a bit, which will show more gains than you'd get with a cursory analysis of the overall processing instructions being executed.

What really matters is how those instructions are used.

That literally made no sense!

rainslacker1625d ago

Sorry you don't understand how processors work, but there is plenty of info online if you care to learn more.

Whitey2k1626d ago

Even thou it's still an 8 core like the jaguar I guess the processing speed is 50% faster then the current generations

CuVe1626d ago

Cpu frequency. Not cpu speed.

Whitey2k1626d ago

Ooooo ok normally go by the individual core speed

My buddy bought early access and said it’s very good, with a lot of potential but room for improvement… basically what a lot of early previews have said.
I am really excited for this, and am excited for PS5 release but this is encouraging to hear. Kind of like BG3… 2 years ago it was nowhere near as good as it ended up being. It’s awesome when developers are listening to feedback from the community and basically play testing the shit out of this until it’s as good as it can get… and then releasing.
Patiently waiting, keep up the good work!
