Xbox Game Studios and Obsidian Entertainment Announce Grounded, Available in 2020

During X019 in London, Xbox Game Studios and Obsidian Entertainment today announced Grounded, a new first-person, co-op survival game coming Spring 2020 to Xbox One digitally through Xbox Game Preview and with Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft Store, and on Steam. Grounded will be the first Xbox Game Preview title available with Xbox Game Pass.

The concept of a tiny world is awesome but this looks like a bad game ruining a good dev team. I hope MS isn't going to turn Obsidian into garbage like they did to Rare. 😔

I was actually referring to another recently released game which got criticism for just being someone walking around, with not much else in the game play department. Won't name the title, but it should be pretty obvious unless you've been on vacation the past couple weeks.

Seriously though. I have no problem with the concept. Just some of the shots looked ripped straight out of the movie itself. As soon as you realized the catch, the first thing that popped into my head was that movie.

Doing co-op / multiplayer is a little disappointing.

There's a reason why the Outer Worlds is fantastic

Ms wants AA games with few AAA sprinkled in. Their focus is not all on quality but being on gamepass. Even Xbox fans praise sea of thieves and say doesn't matter how it launched its better now. Sony and Nintendo are about quality while Ms cares about quantity

Although they did say it was in development before Microsoft however we don't really know if it was just an idea floating around near pre production and Microsoft give it the green light as soon as they were in talks to buy them, they most likely were asked what they had on the table when they sat down for talks.

There are plenty of adults who play Mario and Pokemon, those are designed for children. Millions of adults read Harry Potter and go see animated films. NES and Sega games were basically all for kids. Even the violent games looked cartoony with pixelated blood and gore. Adults still go back and play those games.

Because Obsidian has two teams? It is a really good strategy for MS. Let one team work on a smaller game for Xbox One, while the bigger team work on an entire new AAA game for Scarlett, just like their other devs like Ninja Theory.

Honestly, only people on N4G could spin this into a negative thing. If this was from Sony you can bet your a** it would have gotten ton of praises plus a shiny golden medal from this place.

I do think if MS had more of the high profile AAA games, that games like this wouldn't get as much attention. At least I assume, since it's still kind of early to say how much attention this will get. I mean, you don't see as much attention given to games like Concrete Genie from Sony, and most of the talk is for their big AAA games.

In some ways, I guess it's good for these more unique or artistic type games. But in others, it isn't that great if you get excited for the big AAA games.
