Famitsu is....odd when it comes to reviews which is why I dont really rely on them. They gave p4g a 35 compared to p5 base at 39, and I loved p4g way more. Theyve also given nintendogs, skywards sword, ff12, and ff13-2 perfect scores and 39s for kh3, tales of xillia, and resident evil 6 lol...and great games that have had low scores. Wonder what fan reviews will have to say, hope this doesnt mean any actual downgrade to the base game.

I’m not defending this site but YOU.. didn’t love P5 more than P4 and imo there is no contest 5 is much better.

notachance1666d ago

gameplay wise sure,
but p4g is way more relatable, they feel like real students. They hang out, goes on vacation, having fun with each other, helping each other face their shadow...

P5 group feels to me like they got a stick up their ass all the time, even on that beach vacation all they can talk about is the shadow world, hang out in the coffee shop? shadow world, after school? shadow world. They feel more like robots than human, such a waste considering the burden on each of them was heavier and has more potential than their p4 counterpart.

TheGamez1001666d ago (Edited 1666d ago )

I found p5 to be quite a disappointment when it came to the whole school student and social life aspect. Also like the characters and story better than 4. At least there werent any characters put in the back with no screen time like Haru. Relationships and characters felt much more genuine. P5 has the better gameplay and visuals of course. P5 focused too much on the phantom thief thing I guess. For me, the dungeons were more memorable in p4g than p5....which is just sad cuz p4s dungeons are randomly generated.
But hey, its just preference, both are great games.

NiteX1666d ago

Yeah I didn't like any of the characters in P4.

NukeDaHippies1666d ago

Story and characters are better. There's plenty of contest to be made.

Ff13-2 is a perfect game though...

franwex1666d ago

It was actually cool. I think just because its ff13. I actually thought ff12 deserves the perfect scores too. They are just different style. And P5 IS better than P4.

To each their own I guess.

TricksterArrow1666d ago

They gave a great score to Umbrella Corps too. Umbrella Corps.

This is why game reviews are such a joke.

It's the same game with more content and somehow that's worse than the game it is?

Darkwatchman1666d ago

While I agree most game reviews are a joke and mainstream journalists complain about stupid things, more content does not equate to better game. In the case of DQ 11S, where all the extra content is optional stuff and the main game content is untouched, sure. It’s better because it’s more to dig into.

In the case of P5 Royal, where a lot of content is being added to the main story and a whole ass main character is added to the gang, that can have an adverse side effect that impacts the story itself, its writing, and its pacing. That and the dungeons were remixed. Maybe the remixed dungeon designs aren’t as interesting as the originals? There are so many variables in something like P5 Royal that can absolutely make it a worse game.

That said, I’m getting it Day 1 because its graphics are being upgraded on the standard PS4 on top of PS4 Pro enhancements, which were missing in the vanilla release. I’m thinking of it as more of a remaster, finally looking how the game should have looked upon release.

CrimsonWing691666d ago (Edited 1666d ago )

My point is that it's the same game, with additional content. It shouldn't be given a lower score.

We can speculate the quality of the additional content, but I highly doubt any of it is enough to justify a lower score. I've never seen any game that reviewed well and had additional content drop the score of the game.

I think Atlus needs to cut the crap on releasing 2 different versions of a game, or at the very least, give the additional content as DLC for the base game, but that still wouldn't justify a lower score, in my opinion.

Kribwalker1666d ago

maybe they feel paying full price for the game with just added content isn’t worth it if they’d already played the original game

CrimsonWing691666d ago

I get that, but I don’t think that’s a fair criticism as I mentioned before. The reason being for people who have never owned a copy how does that help inform them of a Purchasing decision?

Xavi4K1666d ago

I don’t get when this happens..its like the same game but with better sounds more stuff to do and new characters ... it should be either the same or higher score

SamPao1666d ago

Well. Tbh you could also score it lower because they force you to buy the game for fullprice again. Which for me is a pretty big no go.

bluefox7551666d ago (Edited 1666d ago )

Sure, but that's not a critique of the game, but rather the business practice of the publisher. They're supposed to be reviewing the game, not the publisher.

SamPao1666d ago

Well. I would review definately both. Especialy with all the dlc and microtransaktions of todays gaming

AnotherGamer1666d ago

Famitsu is not really reliable when it comes to review scores honestly.

knifefight1666d ago

Yep. I keep this timeless link handy for threads like this one:

CrimsonPheonix1666d ago

It deserves the lower score for being the same game rereleased on the same platform for full price

Persona 5 Royal is my top 10 game of all time. A true masterpiece.

Barlos3d ago

Same here. Not only is it one of my favourite RPGs, it's also one of my favourite ever games. I keep coming back to it time and time again.

DustMan2d ago

Why not read one of the reviews and find out?

CrimsonWing693d ago

4.8? This game is literally one of the best modern JRPGs. I’d give it the perfect score.

Persona: How A Spin-Off Game Series Can Ruin The Original

"Newer Persona games dive into the simulation of a high school student at the cost of RPG mechanics compared to Shin Megami Tensei." - Najam from eXputer.

DrDoomer24d ago

Persona (particularly 3,4 and 5) is the best thing to come out of Atlus, by far. The only way other games get ruined is by paling in comparison.

gold_drake24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

thats a hot take if ive ever seen one.

atlus aint just persona.

they have plenty of games that are fantastic that are not persona.

maybe in sales sure but not in quality.

DrDoomer24d ago

Not saying those games are bad. I'm saying Persona is just that good.

Tapani14d ago

I enjoy the SMT core series much more vs the Persona series. I like how it is much darker and more hardcore as an RPG. I've played all of them through and they never disappoint.

Stopac24d ago

That's a bad take.

SMT had a niche following. So did persona. They redid persona starting with three to reach an wider audience. Nothing happened with the original SMT and have stayed the way they were. If they were to revamp that main series you could get what happened with soul hackers lol. You want that?

Barlos24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

A spin off is a spin off. Why would they ruin the original? If you like the original then that's great, you can carry on enjoying it. If the spin off is crap it has no impact on the original at all.

I love Persona 5 and P5R but I have zero interest in Strikers or Tactica but even if I played them and didn't like them they wouldn't ruin the original games for me.

Same goes for if you like the SMT games but don't like Persona, why would that suddenly make SMT bad?
