PS5 with voice assistant owner? Spotted a patent for "PlayStation Assist"

An interesting patent filed by Sony opens up the speculation against an implementation of a voice assistant in PS5.

Jimboms1683d ago

Interesting, so this would be more on an accessibility option?

Mr_Writer851683d ago

Isn't this already a thing? If I have my camera plugged in I can operate a few things on my PS4 via voice command.

Camera or headset on, you can do some things by voice, like opening a game or taking a screenshot.

PS4's is a basic, pre-programmed voice response.

Think of this more like an AI....a Siri, a Google Assistant, or an Alexa.

Sevir1681d ago

This is deeper integration of AI than you understand it to be. Stadia has Google Assistant which can be pulled up at any point in the game to give you tips and help you solve puzzles or help you progress from a difficult section of the game. Google demonstrated this feature on Shadow of the Tomb Raider and it's also available on AC Odyssey

This PS assist likely is something in the same vein. And I'm sure MS is working on something similar to make sure that Stadia doesn't leave the home console outclassed in feature sets.

"Google, beat that boss/race for me please"

The near future?

Nodoze1683d ago

If this is an 'accessibility option' then I might be ok with it. If it isn't, there better be an OFF option. a DISABLE function and not one that simply still gathers all the data (and sells it). We don't need yet another corporation monitoring conversations. Sony can monitor our conversations along with Google, and Amazon? Really?

KeenBean3451683d ago

I think after the awful XB1 launch they wouldn't bother trying to make it compulsory knowing what people think of it

rdgneoz31683d ago

If no one noticed a version of it on the PS4, then it's not compulsory...

DarXyde1683d ago

As an American, i might feel far more comfortable with Sony or Nintendo handling user data.

Microsoft has really used up any credibility through pitching an always on Kinect and selling data to the NSA, at least for me.

Stanjara1683d ago

Remember where the idea of ps4 was that is capable to bring your buddy in on your game, to give him controls to solve a difficult part in the game? (Gakai original)
With all the ytube game walkthroughs, that show you all the collectibles, and trophies, I really don't see the point of this.
I think that this Ps5 launch will be a shit show, with different skus, controllers with lcd, voice AI, streaming services, and all the crap in the world.

i feel like a majority has been blaming Sony and not Arrowhead.
just what ive seen.

isarai12h ago

Same, not sure where they were looking

Tacoboto1h ago

Arrowhead's CEO is awesome and so transparent; they're demonstrating they're a gamer-first studio and will stand by our side even with a publishing partner as big as Sony.

I haven't seen anyone blaming Arrowhead except the dumb "but you knew!" takes... Which are useless, it's still the publisher that listed it for sale in unsupported countries.

KwietStorm_BLM39m ago

I think we've already moved past it but hey gotta remind everyone what direction to throw shade where they were already throwing it.

DarXyde10m ago

Is anyone blaming Arrowhead?

That would be news to me.

TheColbertinator9m ago

I do. Sony is a pox on the gaming industry.

I love Broken Sword but I admit I was disappointed to see it'll get a mobile release. Seems like it'll be massively limited because of that. Probably good for the studio though. Really looking forward to the redo of BS1 too. We need more point and click games
