PlayStation 5 – can we expect cross-gen exclusives at launch?

Right now, there’s not a lot we know about the PlayStation 5. Aside from the fact it has an SSD, can boot big games up in a jiffy and has some ray tracing tech inside (here’s a rundown of specs), Sony has yet to really reveal its next gen system to the public.

Yes it will have cross gen exclusives. With the success of the PS4, the PS5 will definitely have the advantage. I see it winning the console war next generation.

_SilverHawk_1716d ago (Edited 1716d ago )

I'm quite sure we'll have some cross gen games but I dont want a situation like the Nintendo switch where 90 percent of the games are old games ported on the switch. I'd definitely like a the last of us 2 and death stranding made for the ps5 but sony will need to move majority of their development efforts towards the ps5.

Welshy1716d ago (Edited 1716d ago )

It's far too late for some of the games to switch development platform focus. More realistically I'd say the games slated for PS4 release within 6 months to a year of PS5 launching will probably get major updates on PS5 via backwards compatibility, similar to the 4k HDR updates that games got for the PS4 Pro but on a much larger scale.

Rude-ro1716d ago

That type of console upgrade is over.
The ps4’s game engines were mostly built for this and next gen.
They have a jump start on that, but it will be cross gen for a couple years.
Sony has already said so.
I would say at least two years before we see an exclusive for the ps5 from Sony.

Do you get a trophy for winning console wars?

NarutoFox1716d ago (Edited 1716d ago )

Nope just sales and reputation world wide to boost your install base

Neonridr1716d ago

Guaranteed Sony will want us to double dip with PS4 games being re-released on the PS5 with some enhancements.

deadfrag1716d ago (Edited 1716d ago )

But the PS5 is going to play PS4 games why would not just release a Patch. The backlash to Sony would be imense if the didnt Patch the PS4 versions and make people double dip.

Neonridr1716d ago

If the PS4 played PS3 games then there wouldn't have been a need for TLOU Remastered. It's money to them. I hope you are right, and that we just get a patch.

Nacho_Z1716d ago

GTA5 is always a good example, they released the same game across two generations, with upgrades, and nobody batted an eyelid we just bought it twice. Double the money for them or almost minus the cost to upgrade it.

Compare that to the possibility of Rockstar releasing a patch that upgraded the PS3 version to PS4 quality for free, not going to happen. Why would they, realistically?

MasterCornholio1716d ago (Edited 1716d ago )

@Nacho

"Compare that to the possibility of Rockstar releasing a patch that upgraded the PS3 version to PS4 quality for free, not going to happen. Why would they, realistically?"

Looking at things from a realistic point of view I would say it's because the PS4 isn't BC with the PS3. So there's really no way to patch the PS3 version to be like the PS4 version.

But assuming in another reality that the PS4 is BC with the PS3 it would be because they don't want to lose that additional revenue. Although in that case some people would just stick with the PS3 version others would double dip for the improved visuals and additional features.

Sephiroushin1716d ago

The ps4 didnt played ps3 games because the arquitecture was very different, now they are basically medium/low spec pcs

Welshy1716d ago

They didn't make people double dip on the PS4 Pro enhanced games upgrading to 4k HDR, what reason do you know that we don't that they'd change that going into PS5?

Neonridr1716d ago

come on, most games received a resolution bump and that was mostly it. the PS5 is going to offer a heck of a lot more advantages over the PS4/Pro. You can be sure there will be a PS5 version of TLOU2 for example. The question will be that if I purchase the PS4 version and then upgrade to a PS5, will I get any enhancements via a patch? Or will I have to buy the PS5 version, because you know there will be one.

Qrphe1715d ago

I think this will happen. The PS5 will play PS4 games but it'll do so without enhancements. There are plenty of PS4 games that aren't enhanced on the PS4 Pro after all. You'll be able to buy the regular PS4 game and play it on the PS5 or an enhanced version that they might release along the way. Just look at FFVIII, you can either buy the PSone classic or the 2019 enhanced version.

If they can have PS4 Pro enhancements, there's no reason they can't have PS5 enhancements as well seeing as how they'll be backwards compatible

CrimsonWing691716d ago

Won't the PS5 play PS4 games? So why in the world would we need cross gen exclusives?

traumadisaster1716d ago

Times are different now than when ps4 remasters of ps3 hits sold well. We are in the age of giving consumers lots of free games, this is much different than in the past.

Game pass upgraded up to 36 months of Xbox live service for free, monthly free games by epic store Sony and MS have become the norm.

Sony would win minds of consumers by giving free ps5 upgrades in the launch window. From a business perspective it’s leaving money on the table from double gen dips, but you make a generation long consumer by making them happy up front.

Has Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut PC sales earned around £18 Million in its first week on Steam?

CG writes: The question we’re asking is, has Sucker Punch’s just released stealth-action game Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut on PC earned over £18 million in revenue on release week via the Steam platform alone (also available via the Epic Games Store)?

"also available via the Epic Games Store"

I'm pretty sure Epic Games Store is available in over 190 countries and 30 territories. So anyone that said that this game was not available in them was just lying.

I'm so shocked by games journalists and fauxragers lying. Really shocked. I do pity them though. I can't imagine going through life with such anger... at everything.

bunt-custardly18h ago

Hehe, you do know how much PC players whine about having multiple store platforms when really all they want is Steam to run a monopoly. Thank ye heavens for Gog and Epic.

Giblet_Head5h ago(Edited 5h ago)

When Steam is one of the very few actually trying with it's feature set it's a hard sell to get people to want something on a storefront that could care less about improving it's service. GoG is another exception, but Epic, which is still missing many features that have been on Steam for years like every other publisher just half-ass it, so they've earned and continue to maintain their poor reception and presumably act confused come every quarterly report for failure to understand the market they're in. Who really wants to invest in something that actively instills little faith?

Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut PC Opening Gameplay - A stunning game on PS4, now even better

CG writes: In this video we look at Sucker Punch’s open-world samurai warrior/stealth game, Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut PC. We originally played this on PS4 Pro, but looks fantastic using Ultra settings on PC in native 4K and DLSS set to Quality (2K). This is the opening 1 hour and 17 minutes of playing. You can tell we played this before based on our impeccable parrying.

Petebloodyonion1d 9h ago

Congrats to Nixxes for this port, It's nice when you buy a new game and you don't the help of pcgamewiki to run it.

Problem with this game and others is that there are way too many cutscenes and it interrupts the gameplay on a level that I'm beyond annoyed.😑 Game might be great but this needs to stop in games, they need to be much, much shorter and have less cutscenes and more gameplay. I came to play not watch a movie...
