Sony Should Celebrate Insomniac's Acquisition with Resistance Remasters

Insomniac Games has moved on to much bigger and better things since developing the Resistance trilogy for the PlayStation 3, but millions are still rather fond of the alternate history exclusives. Launching its infamously expensive next-gen console alongside a game set in Grimsby was a bold move, but the Ratchet & Clank developer made the dreary England backdrop work, thanks in part to Fall of Man’s fantastic gameplay loop.

Look, there’s no question that Insomniac Games has moved on since creating the Resistance series, but the trilogy still has some incredible highs – especially during combat encounters. The developer’s future may remain with Marvel’s Spider-Man and Ratchet & Clank, but let’s not forget its origins either. Activision lovingly recreated the studio’s Spyro the Dragon titles, and so surely Resistance deserves a place on Sony’s current console, too.

No we don’t need these above average FPS games

bouzebbal1715d ago (Edited 1715d ago )

Nor crap opinions like yours.. You don't want them don't buy them

flaming_scorpion1715d ago

You said their above average so that’s means they’re better then your average FPS so that means they should get remastered

Juusterey1715d ago

We don't "need" any game
That's the beauty of it, you don't like it, you don't have to buy it

battlegrog1715d ago

Its story driven not online god competitive driven. Theres room for both

T2X1715d ago

Why not? you just said they were "Above Average" would you prefer below average?

Knightofelemia1715d ago

@mikeslemonade

Anybody can crap out an FPS ones with aliens ones with humans or ones with monsters but Resistance is more then just your average FPS. The concepts of an alien plague infecting WW2 and turning humans into aliens is probably the best idea for an fps. and Insomniac is known to make great games like Ratchet and Clank and Spiderman to name a few.

mikeslemonade1715d ago

Ratchet isn’t a very good game. When I play it, it’s nap time for me.

The resistance single campaign wasn’t thst good. The online component I really liked but that’s not gonna work in the modern day.

So yes it’s just a waste of time. Make a sequel or more Spider-Man.

RaidenBlack1714d ago

Then what do we need, oh, the chosen one?

This is the kind of game that people say they like it and want it, but it's hard to believe. I played those three games back in PS3, and they are good fps for their time. But nothing more.

Remastering them should not be the priority of Sony and even less for Insomniac. If some obscure studio want to do this and Sony wants to make a little bit about a average franchise and a nonexistent nostalgia, go on. Don't count on me.

Veneno1715d ago

The Resistance multiplayer was really great! I would support a remaster only if it had the online. Otherwise yes it would be a waste.

Jin_Sakai1716d ago

As much as I’d like remasters I’d rather have a full fledged sequel on PS5.

Jin_Sakai1715d ago

I doubt Insomniac has the resources to make a Resistance Remasters, Resistance sequel, and Spider-Man 2.

I really want a new Ratchet & Clank game also. Really enjoyed the PS4 game.

Veneno1715d ago

I feel like you couldn't do one without the other.

purple1011716d ago

Rather invest my time in a new killzone.

Summons751715d ago

Insomniac didn't make Killzone they made Resistance.

Razmiran1715d ago

Killzone is so much more generic than resistance
Resistance at least has fun weapons

Veneno1715d ago

Resistance by far the better FPS!

Movefasta19931715d ago

killzone 2 was the only good one imo , 3 was a major downgrade and shadowfall is damn right atrocious . The portable games were better than shadowfall. resistance was fire.

Brave_Losers_Unite1715d ago

2 was good because of the big step up in graphics and the hype

D was a great, atmospheric horror game. It was worth the rental back in the day. Also, Limited Run Games sucks.

LRG are just glorified overpriced reproductions.... and now they can't even get that last part right. I make better repros using my own stack of CD-R.

mastershredder12h ago

Just don’t. 3DO games were the worst. Imagine paying premium prices for a dog-crap version of a game. The era of barely trying or understanding their own tech and charging asinine prices… 3DN0. It’s best that you don’t admit that you had one of these.

Popsicle11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

The 3DO was ahead of its time and one of the first to enter the 32 bit console space. Yes FMV games are awful, but at the time there was a real thirst for games to look like movies. Removing the FMV games the 3DO had Gex, a solid Myst port, and was often the best place to play non-SNK (best on NEO GEO) near arcade perfect arcade ports. Their downfall was poor marketing and a high price point for a time when consoles were considered to be kids toys.

It was certainly superior to the “64 bit” Jaguar, which was falsely advertised as stronger hardware and had one of the worst console controllers in history.

CrimsonWing6911h ago

Limited Run Games makes me sick. The prices they ask are ridiculous and then the whole burning discs instead of pressing them is pretty disgusting. This is a company that takes their customers for a ride and demands extortion level prices for a product, like we’re talking 2x to 3x more than MSRP.
