IGN: WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 Review

IGN Writes: For as long as there have been videogame systems, there have been classic wrestling videogames. The Nintendo Entertainment System had Pro Wrestling, the SEGA Genesis had WWF Royal Rumble, the Nintendo 64 had a string of grappling hits that many believe peaked with WWF No Mercy, and the PlayStation 2 had WWE SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain. Since the release of the Xbox 360 in 2005, the videogame nation has waited for the defining "next-gen" squared-circle title to show up, and THQ and Yuke's are taking another shot at the championship this year with WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009.

i guess im going to have to skip on this year's SVR. The fact that it runs worse on the PS3 is unacceptable. When will THQ and of course Yuke's Starts realizing that the only way to develop on PS3 is to start developing on the PS3 first??? Sure it finally runs at a decent 60fps, but it still doesnt run well. they made it run very well last generation with the PS2 and those games were pretty good, why not on the PS3??? They are looking to lose PS3 sales, just like what happened to EA last year. This is the Primary reason why Red Faction is not going to sell well on the PS3 even though that series started on a PlayStation Platform.

They need to get their Head out of their *sses if they want to sell software on the PS3.

Well they do have a patch and promise of DLC this time around. Nothing I am excited about, but its something different.

The problems began when the game was shifted from PS2 to X360 and ported though. They should go back to the old exclusive to one or two formats though. Back then the game was at its best on the PS2 and it was worth buying every year. Now since on the Xbox 360 the game hasn't been worth buying yet. Nothing new has fundamentally changed the gameplay or done anything important for the series.

I don't understand why they are making the UFC game and it looks 100 times better than the SVR series. WTF Yukes? Why does nothing on the SVR series look that good and you have had the series for years?

not many people do, which is the reason why I'll just wait it out till next year. I don't want inferior games in my library. THQ and Yuke's Have to step up or else the PlayStation Community is going to forget about them.

to have a yearly version of Smackdown. The graphics are always identical and the gameplay is always the same. Wrestling games don't lend themselves well to yearly editions.

I feel that way about sports games too, but at least they make more sense than a yearly wrestling game.

Yea... I agree. I stop playing Wrestling games since SVR 2006. I relized that Wrestling games are basically the same thing every year just with new and less wrestlers along with the same matches with new storyline. Why pay 60 dollars for something you already got and better. SVR06 is the best wrestling game since no mercy on the n64.

Last time I was into this stuff was like 5 years ago. Then it just tanked and got lame. Nice to see THQ still sucks for PS3 publishings/developments. Wonderful! Can't wait for the delayed cause of PS3 Red Faction! Woot!

I have been playing this game for a week and it's still fun. Last year I played 2008 for a week and I got bored. I had to force myself to play it.
