We Need To Talk About CTR Crash Team Racing’s Microtransactions

As most of you know, Activision has added micro-transactions to Crash Team Racing. Not only that but it seems the Wumpa Coins have been nerfed. This is what Jake has to say about the current state of Crash Team Racing.

It was expected, this is Activision we're talking about. If a game has a multiplayer component, they will add microtransactions and keep the best items locked behind them. They are as bad, if not worse than Electronic Arts.

LucasRuinedChildhood1736d ago

They're definitely worse which is tough to pull off.

Teflon021736d ago

Nothing is locked behind Microtransactions in CTR though. It's just getting some quick Wumpa and the funny thing is they only do up to 10k which I can make in maybe a hour and a half between friday and sunday

Servbot411736d ago

They've started increasing the prices on items though. I don't doubt that the Spyro items will cost much more.

I was really considering buying this, but I may not now....and I do mean it. I have the PS1 game and the PS2 sequel. I love them just fine. I am seriously tired of microtransactions.

Gemmol1736d ago

You can skip that part of it and play what you normally play when you had it on the old system

WiiU-Dude1736d ago

Ok that is good to know

EazyC1736d ago

I agree with Gemmol, the base game is still absolutely fantastic, and the new tracks and content are just great.

People are way blowing this up to be a bigger deal than anything. You don't need the micro transactions. It's not even a good amount they'd gaive. The amount given in MT can be made in under 2 hours on a weekend 2x plus daily 5x. Since you can grab like 8k or so easily on weekend before times up if you're fast enough. Anyways, it really doesn't affect anything in this. The way the game was before MT, no one really complained. It's exactly the same, but with the option to boost your coins. Not a big deal at all since it doesn't affect who doesn't want it

battlegrog1736d ago

so does this make someone that dont buy anything have a less chance of winning ?

Teflon021736d ago

It's not a question because the MT is just extra wumpa coin which is easily earnable in game. You can make like 8k in the bonus time if you're good and MT tops at 10k so you can kinda see where I'm going with this lol. It just works for the store which is all cosmetics and to be clear, you're getting the 1 ingame currency to buy stuff ingame which is already plentiful. Nothing is behind MT, it's just coin boosts. Characters all have 1 or 4 stat lines and the base roster has all 4 types so even the characters unlocked are technically just skins if you think of it like that as no one has actual unique stats

EazyC1736d ago

No, they are so far either cosmetics or new characters that have identical stats to vanilla characters in the game.

Release microtransaction add-on after the core game is released. Only sh*tty companies like EA and Activision would come up with this.

rainslacker1736d ago

We'll probably see more of this in the future since the ESRB now lists it in their ratings. Console games have required that add-on availability be listed on the box, but it was the small print, or a small icon on the back starting around the beginning of this gen.

Doing it after release means it doesn't have to have that as a consideration for the ESRB rating, or citation as it doesn't affect rating. Plus...it makes people not gripe about it during a games release when most people are talking about a game. If it happens a month later, they've gotten a bulk of their sales most of the time, so don't care anymore.

gangsta_red1736d ago

To be fair...is there ever a good, specific time to add or release microtransactions for a game?

indysurfn1736d ago (Edited 1736d ago )

Yes from the START. This would be before you lie, and deceive people into buying a game( so that you can switch the product into a Micro-transaction game). Simple rule: " do to people as you would have them do to you. ".

To be fair is to be HONEST, not conniving.

gangsta_red1736d ago

So from the start Microtransactions are okay, but being added later to a game is lying and deceiving people?

And isn't this for coins that you can grind out anyways?

"To be fair is to be HONEST, not conniving."

Did Activision ever claim they weren't going to add MT's because then i could see the issue.
